    this was great to see. always thought the production was ironically complex for being “generic bubble gum pop music” back in the day. would love to see your spin on “neptunes” type of production back in the day

      that was kind of the hook of it all. it was called thoughtless, but 5 part harmonies with mode changes, is anything but. I always like how in the "pop" world, you have to find new ways to create using the same limited tools. Also... I can't wait for the Neptunes tut

      they made songs for tweens, but they went the extra mile!
      especially Max Martin, though swedes were always so good at dropping bangers

    What i noticed about 2000s style is how much acoustic guitars were used and strings. This sample pack is gold my man. I have some synths in my studio alot sounds from the roland jv 2080.

    As someone who's born in 91 and lived through that era, this definitely took me down memory lane - tho it still sounds a bit too modern and bright in some ways 😊 For anyone who really wants to dive into the elements of what went into all these 90's pop tracks, I have all the original stems from Oops!... I Did It Again. There's surprisingly large amounts of slap bass and funk guitar going on in those tracks and you'd instantly find a bunch of sounds, that was heavily used the board for BSB tracks as well 😅

    A big thank you for creating this fantastic video on making 2000s pop music. Although I was introduced to Western music a bit later around 2007, I must admit that many of my all-time favorite songs come from that iconic Timbaland and Max Martin era. Your video has not only brought back some incredible memories but also given me a deeper appreciation for the artistry and production techniques behind those nostalgic hits. Keep up the great work, and please continue sharing your insights and tutorials. Looking forward to more musical journeys down memory lane!

    So here comes the expert on the subject! The "Strings" Cheiron/Max Martin always used can be found on The Vintage Keys Plus. It's hard to replicate the actual sound cause the vibrato/lfo is very unique sounding. They've used it on everything back in the day! It's probably out there on some VST now. The preset was called 'Stringwheel' such a iconic sound! So many hits!

    • @MakePopMusic
      @MakePopMusic  ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Pop was produced by Timberlake, Wade Robson and BT, while DGG was produced by Veit Renn with Brad Daymond and Alex Greggs and written by JC CHASEZ (not Chavez)
    just a little trivia correction :)

  • @RexPhalange
    @RexPhalange ปีที่แล้ว +3

    This is an excellent track inspired by that particular era. However, for others out there who really want to nail the Cheiron studio (Max Martin) sound, you need to have:
    1. The heavy low piano sound (not quite the Oops piano used in this video) as the accent (Don't Want You Back, Don't Go Knocking On My Door), or main riff (You Drive Me Crazy, Get Another Boyfriend, Lucky), or as a replacement for the orch hit on the quieter part of the tracks, sometimes layered with a 'wow' bass.
    2. The exhale 'heh' sounding hi-hat that plays on the e and a, and a maracas sounding one too used for rhythmic 'clutters'.
    3. The 'robot-activating' riser, and the reverby tom-like downer that goes pooooom...
    4. The whispery, reverby snare effect (most prominent in Stronger, 'I used to go with the flow'...paahhh). That sound is used everywhere in Cheiron's music, including their mid-tempos and ballads.

    • @rnbsteenstar
      @rnbsteenstar ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That following sound that you think sounds like a Tom is actually called the manic shot from the Roland dance expansion boards or the MDC one.
