Even some of the moves resemble First Nation Indians of The Americas. I love this Zaouli dance, the drums and passion feels like home in polynesia to me.

It is interesting to see the guy without the disguise doing the dance so that we can appreciate how the steps look in "normal" appearance. The traditional dress really adds a lot of magic to the dance.
I think it’s because the top of the costume doesn’t move and the ankle dressings enhance the movement so it trips you out like on the bottom half of the dancer is moving but the top stays still.

That’s why the zaouli dance is called a spiritual dance in Ivory Coast because nobody have control over the dance like the masked person who’s a male.

He's not wearing any shoes. This type of dance is not really designed to be done on concrete... it;s traditionally done on sand which I think is much cooler.
He should wear sandals at least. Some dancers wear them in other videos. Sand helps take the impact of the constant pounding and would help them dance longer without breaks. Concrete is horrible for tribal dances... I also hate seeing animals caged in concrete cells... just because it's easier for the zookeepers to clean, but it's not a natural environment for any animal.

Whenever I see a Zaouli dancer there's always another guy standing nearby in colorful regular clothes. Who is he? What is he called? What is his function/ purpose? Is he the dancer's manager, the MC, a relative? I am fascinated by Zaouli dance and its surrounding culture. I'd love to be there in person, talking to everyone and watching the dancer.
