Your house and the view is beautiful. I really admire your work ethic too. We are building a house with almost the same first floor plan as you except a little bigger but it is one story only. We are older and wanted a house where we would be able to wash windows and clean gutters without going up on huge ladders. We will have casement windows all around and all I have to do to clean them is crank them out and walk around the house. Gutters are easy to clean too. Current house is way too much work with high windows and gutters. However, everyone is different with regard how much maintenance they are comfortable with. We have tons of south facing windows which let in lots of light...they are just not high.
I wish this build was atleast 5 years old so I could binge watch the series and see the fished results I'm excited for the outdoor work and yard work .. look great you guys :)
It's great that you can now get that high to do your windows. But in addition, I'd opt for a squeegee (with long AND short handles) to clean those windows. Less time, effort and streaks!
I had the same thought. I’d add a two sided bucket, window mop, and razor scraper (specifically for windows). A holster would be nice, but not necessary. All are available at most janitorial supply store. So much less work with a better outcome!

I got butterflies seeing how high that was! When cleaning the windows, that view must make it even more apparent of just how high you are!! Sorry about the floor, that really stinks!
This is off topic but as I was watching, I was reminded of when we were doing the interior in our ICF house. We used finished plywood instead of drywall but it should be the same process, basically. We wanted a way to know where the plastic ties were once we had a sheet up on the wall, blocking our view of them. We used a sharpie to make marks on the subfloor and top plate, showing where each tie is, especially important where your commons seams are since they're not a standard distance from the corner, etc. Then we also used pieces of tuck tape to mark where wiring is so that we knew not to put nails there. When the board was in place and ready to be attached, we held a 2x4 against the wall on each sharpie mark as a guide for nailing straight lines. Happy building!! It looks great so far!
I know how long that list can be. That little bit of prep definitely made things so much easier. Good luck!! Haha, we get to do it again for our siding...
Crazy as it sounds I have family members that can find studs just by gently hitting the wall until they find it. It usually takes them just a minute or two.
@@KC-zn1mg It isn't crazy, I have seen many people do that. But in an ICF house, that isn't possible. The walls are over a foot thick of solid foam and concrete, so you don't have the ability to hear the pitch change as you could in a conventionally framed wood wall. Pre-marking the stud location is critical.

Could you build a wooden "catwalk" about 30" wide w/ railing from the loft over to those big windows.. in front of the windows build another kind-of narrow 3-4ft wide "widow's walk" or loft or lounge w/railing to look out from or read and relax. Then you can use that area to clean the windows

Yep I own 2 pair of them,1 I bought 1 about 15 years ago the other I bought like 2 years ago and already replaced the old platform once and it needs it again there slick and easy to put together !!
Over 40 years ago I worked as a scaffold builder. It seems to me that what you have will do the job as required for your needs. We used to erect somewhat similar scaffolding that seem to have been much stronger and also easier to put together. I haven’t kept up with the materials available today, but I wonder if the value of the dollar has cut the quality if the material that much? Just an old mans thinking out loud.
Looks intriguing, and I'd like something one layer up, with the guard railing system, to do the periodic preservation of the south facing logs here. Definitely something I'm going to investigate! (Wonky knees, so I will require railings on any scaffolding I'd use...)
WOW Jeremy that's nice scaffolding and it sure puts you up in the roof section adequately. Did you drop a piece as you were assembling it? That hole in your floor is unnerving your sub floor seems a bit under sized a bit? I don't know if 3/4" sheets would be any better or not? Not me! I'm scared of heights. For the outside, I would have to attach a squeegee to a very long poll and then rinse at the end with the the hose attached. Only squeegee for the inside and hope for the best. Remind me to never have windows way up high.

HI, I have to say that looks nice scaffolding, I was surprised the people who installed your windows did not use a scaffold tower, much easier to work of rather than a plank between two ladders (illegal in the UK for decades). The thing with your scaffold, I was puzzled why there is nothing keeping the scaffold together. I know it has the bracing but if I was 18' up that tower It would give me a bit more confidence. Glad to see you are making such great progress, unlike the two at PLFL who are years into building a house and have got hardly anywhere.
THAT is high! and it still looks like you can not reach the peak. I,ve had to work in boom lift at 30 ft. and I would not release both hands at the same while working. It was one arm/hand at a time. I know in reality it would make no difference to what ever was to happen, I just could let go! I still got the job done. Are you going to have contractors do the wall board at the peak? Best Wishes- you are doing a great job getting this home built.

What's the height of the peak of the ceiling ? I was thinking about a drywall lift , but they only go to 15 ft max . Anyways good luck looking forward to seeing upcoming videos .
Eventually you’ll need a scissors lift just for building maintenance purposes. Their great for cleaning those cob webs in the corners of the vaulted ceilings.
I'm surprised that there isn't provision for some connecting sections that fit just above the castors, to structurally tie the base ends to cover the minute possibility of the end base frames splaying.

I’m surprised it only made an 8” gash. A 6’ steel framed plywood deck falling 18’ and landing on the corner. Regular OSB would have exploded and the deck would be in the basement.
I punched a hole in my advantec floor, maybe not quite as big as you did. Since I have some scrap pieces, I'm going to glue a piece of scrap on the bottom side and add some screws. It should be fine.
That and they have the equipment to get the sheet rock up to the ceiling safely and they have to carry insurance. That is not a two person job! Dangerous!
0:18 yikes! something I picked up from scaffolding is that the maximum height of free standing scaffolding should be no more than 3 times the width... are you going to do the outside with the same scaffolding or make use of a telescopic pole? (would be safer)
Jeremy are you going to do the drywall yourself ? Be mighty careful installing on the ceiling . I'd be thinking seriously about renting a drywall lift. Be safe and enjoy the journey

Marking off the studs is still on my list but glad you brought it up. Definitely a must with this type of construction.

Good idea! We rented once but it was a hassle. Better to have your own. Windows don't show dirt that fast.

That hole is the reason for the scaffolding. The impact of falling that far would be much more costly than the price of the scaffolding.

The subfloor is 3/4” Advantech. The deck fell 18’ and landed squarely on the corner.

A extender pole would have bin cheeper are you going to put that together when the house is done on the new floors

I would have advised a Telewash system. A long pole. Osmose water cleaning the windows. Much easier then building a scaffold every time.

Card board is great to use in your yard. The card board blocks the weeds. Put a layer of soil, compost, etc and plant your stuff on top...
Many card boards are treated against rot and mold. Some contain formaldehyde. Wouldn't want that in your garden.

how many chickens do you have and what tipe of food do you give your chickens also the dorkings are you wanting to bread them?
I think they have some videos about their animals. I know one cooking video showed them feeding the chickens certain vegetable scraps.
