    Just turned 40 and found out I have a shallow hip socket, labral tear and tendonitis. Played rugby my whole life, along with golf, athletics, cricket (I’m Australian lol) and surfed. I’ve always done weight training and body building since a young age, which may have helped until now. See the surgeon again on 2 weeks but I have had an injection which worked well, and see a physiotherapist fortnightly. I have gone from not being able to walk far to being a 1-3 out of 10 in pain which comes and goes. I’m trying to avoid surgery and strengthen up my glut and stay mobile without aggravating my hips. It’s not fun!

    This is a great video and I'm glad you're feeling so much better! I just wanted to say that "yoga" is such a broad term that it can be either a lifesaver or detrimental depending on what you're doing. I agree that we shouldn't be hyperextending our joints, but that's really not what yoga is about. I only fall apart when I DONT do yoga bc when I do it, I focus on strength, stability, balance, breath, meditation, massage etc. As someone who was born hypermobile, my joints already don't do what they should so my muscles overcompensate and become very tight and painful so when I do stretch anything in yoga, it's muscles/fascia, not my joints. Anyway, I just wanted to clarify that yoga is very helpful when customized and done correctly, and it's only harmful if you're doing something not meant for your particular body. Obviously, it does take education to understand what one does/doesn't need personally, I just don't think yoga should be seen as harmful for us in general bc it's the only reason I've been able to avoid surgery for 20 years!

    I'm 36 years old, and I was diagnosed with hip dysplasia in my left hip around age 27. I went in thinking I had a leg length discrepancy, due to things don't look quite aligned, and I think sometimes I walk a little funny. I have had almost no pain, but I don't weigh very much, and I haven't done much running since high school. Back then I played basketball and they ran us to death, but only ever had a little knee pain, no hip pain. A few years ago I tried running a little bit, and sometimes had pain, most times no pain. On a long hike sometimes it will ache a tiny bit. Nothing else has ever bothered it besides sleeping on my left side. Jumping rope, bicycling, horse back riding, walking, hiking, all fine. But I do wonder if there are exercises or stretches I could do that would be beneficial. I spent the last decade as a truck driver sitting all the time, and my hips feel pretty tight. I was really surprised to hear that yoga could be a bad thing, as I always thought it would help loosen things up, but I've never tried it. Don't know if you will read this, but if you have any feedback I'd really appreciate it. I've never been able to find much info other than "you will need surgery."

    Hip dysplasia here also. Very bad @ age 25, was due for surgery but couldn't afford it. Now 55 years on the clock and have managed it OK. But pain and and loss of mobility worse last 2 years ( thanks, age), now it's painful even going for a short walk. Just started the FAI programme and getting encouraging results. Kinda surprised and now am hopeful.

      I'm almost 60 and have significant hip dysplasia. Just wondering if you continued to get good results from the program. I'm considering it, but not clear if it's really designed for people with untreated dysplasia or not. Rob, I'd love to know how it worked for you beyond your initial impression.

      @@kenmaley1510 Yes, I'm still on the programme and quality of life has definitely improved. I'd estimate overall discomfort has decreased by 50% It's the only thing which has ever helped. With this programme, there is no downside. Worst outcome is no improvement. Best wishes.

    How you contacted upright health? I’m on FAI fix I’m doing it since October this year and I have just MRI anthogram on my left hips. Every time I emailed a question there a person named Jennifer giving some answers but it doesn’t really answer straight to my questions. I might find out how to contact this Instructor. Cause I still have same pain.

    This exactly me right now. I have the almost exact same story minus the childhood surgery. It's been almost 8 years with the pain and I'm so tired. I feel like my bones are 90 years old.
    I was wondering if you know how Jacqueline is doing now. She should be around my age and it has been 6 years since the video was posted. I'm very curious if she's still pain free.

    I have Cam and pincer Impingenent in both hips with a Laberal year and For me Physical Therapy has not helped me at all and now I am in hopes that my orthopedic chooses to do The Surgeries on me so I can get back into the Gym to do The things I need to do. I also have it to where my Right leg goes outward which makes my Right foot as well go outward. So when im walking my Ankles, lower leg and knees hurt along with both of my Groins. Im hoping this Surgery Works for me

      You'll want to read the info here: uprighthealth.com/critical-history-overview-femoroacetabular-impingement/
      The real success rates of surgery are nowhere near what people are often told. What you're describing is something that you need to gradually retrain and that someone needs to really help you troubleshoot (or you will need to take it on yourself to understand the anatomy).
      Cutting up bone to fix a position problem is like saying to correct steering wheel alignment, you need to make one of your tires smaller.

    So is fai the same thing as hip dysplasia?

    • @Uprighthealth
      @Uprighthealth  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, they’re distinct diagnoses that orthopedic surgeons like to look at. Surgeons claim that these bone “deformities” lead to hip damage, but this award-winning study demonstrates that neither FAI bone shapes nor hip dysplasia predict or cause hip pain. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4709310/

    Hi... I was a former punter/kicker in football and have been having issues with my left hip for a few years now. I have labral tears on both sides but the left is symptomatic. It has been affecting EVERYTHING in my body. My left ankle and lower leg have trouble lining up into a neutral position and are constantly clicking. (Saw a foot specialist, he believes it's from the hip too) My low back is constantly rotated and causes pain because it's out of alignment. I even believe the recent shoulder impingement I've been dealing with came as a result of my spine being rotated off it's natural alignment. My neck has been an issue the last year too. Everything just feels twisted. When I am able to get a good soft tissue person to release my QL and Psoas that seems to help immensely. I don't have 6 months to do the surgery right now.
    I looked up your FAI fix.
    I had a few more questions. Are you guys available for a skype chat or phone call?
    Is the FAI fix your only program for torn labrums?
    Will the videos in the program help to alleviate the issues that are running down my leg into my ankle and up into my low back? I believe the ankle is because everything else is unstable in the hip and rotated.
    Thank you for posting these videos. I hope you guys are killing it!

    • @EddieJohnsonActor
      @EddieJohnsonActor 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      And my left knee feels like it is twisted and pinches the soft tissue in the knee joint as well. When it's really inflamed it is tough to walk on. End rant lol

    On 03/11/2022 I got my MRI results back. I found out I have all this... :(
    Right Hip Joint: Focal tear within the anterosuperior labrum at the 2-3 o'clock position. Apparent superficial articular cartilage loss involving the anterolateral aspect of the adjacent acetabulum. Otherwise intact articular cartilage. Acetabular dysplasia is seen with a lateral center edge angle measuring 17 degrees in the prior radiographs. The ligamentum teres is intact. Normal alignment. No effusion.
    Left Hip Joint: Full-thickness tear in the anterosuperior labrum at the 2:00 position.
    I have other injures too but hip results are the worst so far. I am a very active person will be 51 in May. Do I need to have surgery to fix the dysplasia, then try your program?

      Paulita Mocca Have you tried doing upright health's program? I suggest you do before any major surgery you might just get results from it not all PT'S are good, You might just need someone who is better that can actually help you I believe upright health and his program is a great place to improve your hips if that is your goal.

      You definitely need surgery to fix the impingement. Its bone related not muscle related. I disagree with this video. This is for people who are scared to have surgery

    • @Uprighthealth
      @Uprighthealth  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      At this point, you've probably already had the surgery. The point of the shared article was to show you why surgeons and doctors currently say they believe you need to have surgery to fix the impingement. Current evidence seems to indicate that is not correct. Experience from many people with the diagnosis who have followed the FAI Fix and/or worked carefully with muscles in ways traditional PT does not shows that it is possible to get better without the surgery.
      Actual satisfaction rates with the surgery are not anywhere near the 85-90% often quoted, but some people do have their expectations met by surgery. Hopefully you are one of them/
