Great Stuff Mark - I think you are like a person who reached the pinnacle of something and got the most out of yourself with the vlogs. Now you have different goals and are at a different stage of life. It's ok to look back & reflect. May be you are a person that over 10 years got the most out of yourself with 10 years genuine life experience and we all love you for this. Lots of other people get one years experience and do the same thing for another 9 years. I like your type of existence, get the most out of life while you can. See you out on the road. Cheers

Great to see you back mate, congratulations on the new little one! Hopefully see you around for some Melbourne Crits, if we're allowed! (fingers crossed)
amazing how image resolution and stabilization have vastly improved for action cameras; your review has piqued my interest in getting an Insta360 camera in the future
Thanks for this video! I actually sold my GoPro hero 8 last month and was planning to buy the hero MAX (at first mainly for the battery life an FOV) but with the release of the Hero 9 (with max FOV mod) I was really struggling to decide wether 360 footage was high quality enough to put under my handle bars to record my races. The clip at 2:00 showed that it looks great! And even though this was an insta 360 video you've helped me a lot! Cheers!
Good day sir..a pilipino subscriber. im a cyclist also.. im a 4th stroke survivor. . And cycling makes me survivor and become stronger since my stroke came... im a bike vlogger too, but my camera is only my cell phone. . I wish have that kind of action cam someday.. God bless sir and ride safe always. . - Bikestroke
Nice one mate, be keen to hear about the software side, hopefully it is easier and quick. Also getting data displayed, can it be done? Great to see a vid from you, hope your doing well mate.
Top shelf work right there Mark. Appreciate this perspective. Is this a serious alternative to the Fly12/Fly6 setup in your experience? Hope Hannah and the little legends are doing well mate
Hey, mate good to hear from you!. Yeah well, it is but those products also have a light.... so not really if you're doing a lot of night riding. That said if you only commute during the day, it's a no brainer.
Are there privacy issues with a camera on a bike if you upload to TH-cam (ie people coming the other way, cars in traffic etc)? You often see number plates blurred.
I try to use the One R for security recording while biking. The One R 360 lens video quality is so blurry that it CAN'T capture a readable license plate number of a car passing me on the same lane or opposite lane at any speed and any light conditions. More often than not, it can't even do that for a parking car that I pass on my bicycle. I was on Insta360 tech support for two weeks, trying to understand why a 5.7K resolution @ 30fps can't clearly capture a license plate number. I tried different video recording configurations; all without success. The final answer from Insta360 was "there was no quality issue with your One R, and since you activated the One R, there is no return". I showed Insta360 tech support and image (with Dashware overlay of speed, cadence, etc) of when I just biking out of a parking lot, moving at 9MPH, and a car was passing me on the same lane, going also at a slow speed. The sky was sunny. The recording was made with the OneR 360 at 5.7K and 30fps. The captured image was with blurry license plate number despite the most ideal condition. Things get exponentially worse for any less than ideal conditions. So I gave up the hope of one 360 camera for security recording instead of two cameras, one for the front and one for the back. I then try the Insta360 One R 4K lens. Well, that failed massively also. Just for context, my GoPro 8 at 2K can capture a readable license plate number. The One R 4K lens at 4K and 60fps can't most of the time. I tried from auto-everything to adjusting the shutter speed and the ISO. All failed! For another context, I can see a blade of grass with my GoPro 8 on 4K 60fps recording while on a bicycle. It's a blurry mess of green with the One R. I also showed Insta360 tech support an image captured by a One R with its 4K lens on 4K resolution and 30fps. There were moments of clarity and there were moments of utter fuzziness (as shown in the attached image.) This is the difference b/w a new player and a known quantity like GoPro. Since it didn't even work on a slow-moving bicycle, I don't imagine this would remotely work on a fast-moving motorcycle. So I DON'T recommend this for security recording for anything with speed such as biking or motorcycling. However, the One R is good for fun (albeit blurry) video recording. I also have other problems with the One R, where it simply turns into a dumb brick and won't react to any of the buttons, won't connect with your phone, and won't even take charging. The only way to fix it is to remove and reinstall the battery. And that's tough to do when you are in the middle of the ride and the camera is mounted in its case with the lens guards installed. I found out later that apparently this bricking behavior is a common problem with the OneR - so it's an OneR "feature" you will have to live with until they can stabilize the software. Insta360 tech support still doesn't think there is any problem with my OneR. I just get the feeling of "you buy it, you are stuck with it". If you are considering the One R, be aware of the Insta360 policy that you buy, you activate it, you keep it, no refund. Most US companies love for you to try their products and gladly let you return if not satisfied, knowing that 99%+ would keep the product. Most US companies try hard to remove any friction for you to make a buying decision. Insta360 is a Chinese company and their mentality is different. So DO YOUR DUE DILIGENCE and once you are done, DO ANOTHER DUE DILIGENCE. Parse through the hypes and look for realities. Make sure the Insta360 product fits your objectives before buying. And if you buy, try to buy from places like AMazon.com for easier return if needed. Just don't buy directly from Insta360 and be stuck because Insta360 customer service won't help you.
Hey Nhat I realize these are not cheap but I swear by my Cycliq ce 6 (rear) and 12 (front) for incidents and they pickup license plates. Long battery very stable video, strong lights, easy to mount etc.
Your so lucky you live in aus. Im in the usa and its completely sks. Ive been all over. Its all the same. Only temp and humidity change. Most places are so over crowded its ridiculous.
so I'm on the site looking at the Insta360 ONE R 360 edition battery kit, will that automatically record 360 degrees, or do I need another piece to add? I don't know anything about this so I'm not sure
This looks so good! I have the Insta One X and in daylight it looks fine. I shoot mostly during daytime anyway. I also have a Gopro Hero 8 which is good but limited in terms of angles etc but there are uses for the Gopro8. However, I confess that for fun shots the One X is a lot of fun! I always reframe my 360 footage to 16x9- i like choosin my angles in post-productin- I use it for biking too...did you ever have a One X? I would like a definitive opinion comparing the360 quality of the one X against the One R. I guess I want to convince myself that the One R would be better but perhaps my current combo of the One X & Gopro hero 8 may be just as good or better. I know The One X and the One R both have a 5.7k video in 360 and when reframed the video is almost 1080p, but I hope the quality is better. I don't care much about the 4k module-I think the Gopro Hero 8 is better- and the 1inch looks awesome but too much money...thanks for the video. I don't think it will ever buy another action camera that doesnt offer 360 options etc Here is a video I shot with my One X. The Bridge th-cam.com/video/DiVcFF04FFI/w-d-xo.html
Nice helmet Erick! If you already have a GP8 and the One X, you have a good enough setup and no need to change for a while. The convenience of the One R is that it's both solutions in one camera. After using the 1-inch module and the 4K module, the 1-inch is an unnecessary purchase because the footage is indistinguishable unless you REALLY inspect it. If you were shooting regular low-light shots then yes, get the 1-inch. Yep 360 footage should mostly be exported in 16:9 with selected angles keyframed into the export for best results.
@@cyclingmaven ah that overpriced Lumos Helmet! reminds me of the helmets in the original cheesy tv show Battlestar Galactica! So about Insta 360...yep..I'm tempted by the One R if only because of some of the video effects such as clone and flash dash! Silly I know but I was hoping that the 360 module in the One R was better than the One X...I saw a review for a 8k 360 cameras but footage was tough to edit wit the iphone..hmm...maybe I'm just getting influenced by all the hype around the One R! New toys always get me excited! If I didn't have the One X I would buy the One R right away. The 1inch module is good but that adds a lot to the price (i'm in Canada and it's about $400 cdn for the module)...anyway...there is a sale right now (a discount is always welcomed!) but lemme check a few more videos. I'm sure there will be an even better 360 camera out soon! Thanks for the reply! Careful riding your bikes!
