Measuring distance accurately with the 2.4 GHz radio only!?

  • Range finding and distance measuring has been a hot topic within the wireless community for a long time. Until now, it has mostly relied on the flawed method of using signal strength as an indicator of distance. In this video, Robin shows you how we at Nordic Semiconductor have come up with an improved method of ranging using the 2.4 GHz radio on our multiprotocol wireless SoCs.

    Hi thanks for this tip, I work with Nordic boards too. Just came across this, what is the energy consumption by using this method to get a distance ?

    Can this be done with a higher frequency to achieve greater accuracy? Also, can it be adapted to operate with 2 "base units" to calculate a 2-D position or 3 units to compute a 3-D position?

      As we do not talk about frequency in the video, we are not sure what you wondering. Could you please clarify? It is possible to triangulate a location in 2D or 3D space by combining readings from multiple NDT pairs, yes, but please note we do not provide the algorithms or code for doing the triangulation itself.

    Is it correct to say that the I-Q based measurement shall be an incremental measurement (as opposed to absolute)? Can you do dead-reckoning too? Thanks!

      We recommend you to check out our whitepaper on IQ sampling. Dead-reckoning should be possible: infocenter.nordicsemi.com/pdf/nwp_036.pdf

    Does this work with coded phy? What max range?

    • @NordicSemi
      @NordicSemi  ปีที่แล้ว

      No it does not work with Coded PHY. It has been tested in office space, reliable results up to 8-10 meters with filter. We recommend you to watch our webinar "Introduction to Nordic Distance Toolbox works" for more information: webinars.nordicsemi.com/events/12113618787
