Dbrunkski, EBOTD CB is my favorite weapon in the entirety of Diablo 2. The dual leech on EBOTD is better than dual leech ring for farming p8 throne and baal. I had perfect everything back in 2009, 3/20/20 in all slots perf anni and torch. Griefza & Beast wasn't sustainable for leeching, I would have to use rejuvs and it was a drag but with EBOTD or especially EBOTD + SS, I was unstoppable. Of course I used t.gods for the wisps. Pride on my merc...helllyeahhh!
Yo-yo-yo!!! I think the best and stylish BotD base is Archon Staff. Archon has the best minimum damage in game. eBotd Archon has 638 min damage. Close range - 638-762. Show me other weapon with such min. It's like Grief in terms of constant damage output. For example perf eTomb has 225 min - 3 times lower thar BotD Archon. So you can hit with tomb with DS and CB proc and hit less than min damage Archon... The second is Glorious axe, has better range and 10 more average damage. The third is Ogre Maul because of 1,1 str bonus. All them hit 5 frame fury and has very good min damage.
In my PlugY account, I found only one ZOD in years. Used it two months ago in an almost perfect eth Tomb Reaver. However, in the end, I think eboth and etomb are both equally good in fury druids and whirlwind barbs and both worse than uped ribcracker (Fury) and dual grief (WW).
As soon as my internet is upgraded, I'll be returning to streaming D2 (Perfect Holy Grail run, on battle.net). The end goal being an ethereal Superior 6-socket Thunder Maul (Breath of the Dying) Concentrate Barbarian. I understand the difficulty and the time frame/sink, so save your breath/comments. eBotd zerker in one hand eDeath zerker in other hand.... 7k+7k ww dmg FTW!!! This combo covers your ias break point + CB + if you have the right gear 100% deadly strike.... How is this not on your radar? That's 14k ww dmg plus a chance for both to hit for a 24k smack down. I'm currently running this on my nigma MF barb with 2 Hoto's on switch for fast tele. Also u need highlords+gore riders for the 90+% deadly strike, once you get to lvl 95+ it's pretty much 100% ds. I'm probably forgetting something since it's early in morning and I'm about to leave for work but this barb is on bnet east ladder and I believe level 96 although he might have hit 97 I can't remember I haven't got to play all week and have several other characters also on east ladder.
@@Dbrunski125 True if you are using it with shield or two handed, but with eBotd zerker and death zerker I'm still hitting the ias break point for ww. I do wish other items with ias counted for ww instead of just weapon ias. That never made any sense to me.
@@adamcrux6829 if I'm not mistaken, each weapon's speed is counted for that weapon to hit in WW. If that's the case, you'll get less hits with Death. Keep in mind, original D2 only weapon range determined number of hits. Which is why the Lance was the #1 weapon for a WW barb.
If you have the resources, and you are wanting to heavily invest into that specific character's "pinnacle weapon", and have no plans or desire to rotate it around, it's not a huge issue - the options given in the video are more "best bang for the buck" kind of approaches, but that can never apply to every use-case scenario (for my playstyle, which focuses on slightly more eccentric builds, rather than "most efficient", most my characters have little/no use for a BotD in general - so my Zods literally sit collecting dust).
Ebotd berserker axe is a decent weapon for a pitzerker - between laying of hands, and a might merc, grief is way overkill on demons, but the 200% extra to undead makes botd more reliable vs undead, despite having lower average damage. And then there is the eth war pike merc, that pretty much oneshots anything in the pit, especially if you have beast equipped for the fanaticism.
I've honestly never understood the fascination with the BotD Thunder Maul - there is literally only one character in my pool (my unloved paladin) that I would use that on, and it's not even a remotely good character (fun for the 'weird crap' aspect, but not practical for anything other than lols).
Played d2 since release and only ever had 1 zod drop lol. It's mad how some things are that rare, that people who play it regularly for years still don't see certain items and runes drop. I think that's one of the reasons this game keeps people interested. The zod rune I found was on hardcore too 🤓👍
You know, we always talk about these good runewords and bases that can be used on an act 2 merc, but I kind of want to run a different merc just because. I know it would be sub optimal, but it might be cool just to run something else simply for those style points. If you were to run a non act 2 merc just to have something that stands out and looks cool while also performing adequately, which merc would you use and why? What other cool runewords could you fit into say bows, shields, or swords that could complement a build but wouldn't fit on an act 2 merc?
In case you haven't seen it, Dbrunski made videos about others mercs. Act 3 is pretty useless, he'll do no damage and die more, if you still wanna play him just for the looks you can give him watever aura RW you want. The others 2 can actually be usefull because they can get good damage with their weapons and life leech back the damage they take and you can also give them some aura RW. The most common non act 2 merc is act 1 with Faith (fanatism aura). I encourage you to do some digging for more info, lot's of people already did many tests with those.

Berserker Axe also has range 2 and phase blade only 1, that's why it can be better than dual Grief :) I use Ebot Berserker axe + Etherial Death Clever, found and crafted legit. Four cham runes converted to 2 zods :) thank you for the video about Travincal I farmed the runes there :D and I found only one Death Clever and it is etherial... So I had to use zod :)
I just tried to make this rw in a eth gp as you suggested and you know this was really fun since i hate frenzy and ww bard builds i really enjoyed one shoting everything with berserk and concentration and he literally can't die even at 8 players setting with this rw
I’m hung up. I can make 1 botd. I want to use it on my fury Druid, but I’d also like to make a 2.5 fend zon and use on her as well, so I was thinking ghost spear or warpike. But- my fury Druid does Ubers, and something tells me zerker with stormshield is safer. If I put in a zerker then it limits who can use it. I don’t think the zon can fend with a poleaxe… such a pickle.
Breath of the Dying is a must imo if you want to take on Ubers with a Frenzy Barbarian. BotD and Grief or dual BotD, but that's really expensive, so most people I know do BotD and Grief
Botd and death for the cb and ds rocks ubers. I went into a p8 uber run everybody was dying and I solod it with a level 87 ww barb utilizing that combo
Imho, there are only 2 truly viable ('best in slot', which you want from a runeword that requires a Zod) choices: 1) Greater Poleaxe on a WW barb, hits max ias breakpoint AND offers 5 range, damage is ok....dual 'Grief' is better dps of course (not to mention more crushing blows), BUT playing with 5 range can be really fun. [EDIT: Apparently I'm a moron, see the comment below. Point 2) about the Avenger should still hold true though.] 2) Berserker Axe on an avenger pala (since 'Grief' doesn't work with vengeance it's practically impossible to beat BotD here)....if anyone actually wants to play this dull class :D

Yeah and a Pheonix procs firestorm too often and slows down your bowazon it sucks cus I was trying a fire exploding arrow build haha. I did this on bnet and used the fastest bow in game was a mistake for sure haha. Demon crossbow sucks :p
You forgot to mention that with a CB EBOTD as a barbarian you can choose to run 1hand/shield, dual wield or even two handed. It is not only best style points but most flexibility points :)

BotD is awesome, but I still far prefer Death. Granted, you don't have any IAS from it, but with the damage modifiers on Death, I've found it to have higher clear speed.
Great pole axe is the best base for 2handed....style points,ias break point,4range adder,solid avg dmg...can easy demolish smiters in pvp with a ww barb due to that massive range adder.
I like EBOTD in Zerker on zealer with A1 merc using Faith and using a Highlords ammy and 20ias gloves for the 4/4/4/8 BP. Then I use dreams and lvl 25 conviction.
I just started to play D2 again after many many years. I wanted to go deeper a little this time, understand the mechanics, etc. So I love your videos, keep up the good work! I have a question: Do you have any tips for leveling? What is most concerning me is playersX command. I'm using players8 from the start, my sorc is lvl50 now and I'm having a pretty hard time :D But the XP is awesome. Is players8 worth it? I died only 2 times but the potion management, and the long fights are really tiring. I wonder if its more effective to lower the difficulty, and reach endgame faster. So my question is: What playersX you use for leveling? Especially for a fresh start. Thank you man!
XP and monsters life follow the same % numbers on playersX. So you don't really get a real xp advantage by increasing the player command when your starting a character. Usually you do P8 for the fun/challenge. The most important point is to focus boss packs and run past others when you can. You'll get more XP by being in higher lvl zones, especially on a sorc which doesn't care about attack rating. On melee builds you have to worry about your % hit, level is important to rise it but the better the stuff the less lvl you need. Only don't teleport to fast to Norm Diablo, xp table are made so that you get shit xp if you are 24 or less at Norm act 5 or higher. I think the mercenary have the same problem, so get him/her lvl 25 in act 4 or hire a 25+ when available. If you wan't to learn more on leveling i advise you to watch some speeruns, they go through leveling in a blast. MrLlama in particular made some tutorials about speedrunning. You don't have to go as fast as them but you'll definitively get through leveling faster. Last point, if you use Plugy and you make several characters, you can use all the stuff you have in your stash and you'll go very fast cause you don't have to farm for your stuff at the usual farmed bosses.
I've rolled a couple. Honestly though, Faith in a Grand Matron is far better. You really can't argue against Fanaticism with a potential for +2 all skills and (preferably) +3 bow skills. It's a beastly weapon.

What is best breath of the dying for two handed Concentration barb . or whats fastest base for breath of the dying for concentraiton barb with best damage out of all the fastest two handed wpns for barb. is it that polearm, or is it the sword?, i got 20% ias from gloves 20% ias from highlord. i quess i could put 15% ias jewel on the guliammes helmet, but would that reach max atk speed with any of these bases?
Absolutely agree! I made a BoTD in an etheral thunder maul and love it. It is fast, and does HUGE damage. I use it on my fury druid. I got an extremely good roll as well.
I'd go with Death zerk - but that's what I use. I'll try a Grief phase blade out, but the issue is the low damage on them. The only phase I've ever liked is Azurewrath - which is a beast against physical immune, especially undead. Sanctuary isn't nerfed in Hell like elemental damage.
Grief, hands down. I have those 2 in my sp, grief is just so disgustingly op compared to others, even with death's cb, ds and all. Glacial procs are a thing of beauty though. I actually prefer it because of that (plus it makes the game a little more immersive with the inferior damage).
I'd like to know of BotD will proc the poison nova on kill when your merc uses it but you the player are killing? Does it only benefit the wearer? I want to put on merc with Andariel helm so they would have insane life leech and will be spamming poison novas both on kill and when struck. I have a Tesladin using Grief so I seem to do way more killing than my merc

I have a question for you. I cannot remember if this works together or not. Does the crushing blow and deadly strike+ stats on off hand work with your main hand? Example frenzy barb with death and grief with grief in main hand. ???? I just cannot remember haha 😃😂

Ebotd warpike can be used for a 2h zealot build which does more damage than 1h zealots in exchange for being more squishy. I've been reading about 2h zealots on the internet. Apparently, there's this debate between ebotd warpike and eDeath colossus sword as best in slot. www.diabloii.net/forums/threads/2h-zealot-miniguide.760042/ www.diabloii.net/forums/threads/2h-zealot.778138/ Empirical tests seem to favor ebotd though his set up wasn't perfectly optimized for eDeath. War traveller is better than gore riders with eDeath. Also, the first two hits of whirlwind are the same regardless of IAS. So if you keep your whirlwinds short, a slow ebotd weapon for whirlwind can kind of work. Still pretty cool to have more melee options.
You mentioned Colossus Blade, But shouldnt it be a Colossus Sword?? Colossus Sword has more damage and still hits the max ww bp. Edit: derp it maxes at 5os Also, you forgot to mention the speed bugged eDeath / eBotD for both the Berserker Axe and Sword for frenzy barb. Its my favorite setup. Sure Grief is more damage (15-20% more) but it lacks survivability and CB).
Would you say that botd is the strongest overall melee weapon on vanilla sp without ladder runewords? I guess eth tomb reaver would be better for fury druids but that's only one build.
I dropped a 15% ed ethereal Thunder Maul yesterday, and I have the runes. So tempting, yet so useless :D Probably gonna roll it in a zerker axe, and use it on a hipster Vengeance paladin.

Back in the day on battle net I used to run a wolf fury druid with an Ebotd thunder maul and he hit like a truck :)

Death is far and away my favorite physical damage weapon.
I too like death WEP. Even in a phase blade it's still awesome haha.

BOTD Eth Warpike ON A PVP Paladin Charger build back in the day was a pure nightmare for all Druids/Sorcs. 🤣

Niche item but I once found a +3J/S +15ed Matriachal Pike for spear zon. Ok it's limited build but well killing Baal in 1, 2 hits just fun

You could use the ebotd warpike as a 2H charger paladin also which is very normal these days. Hits hard and usually 1hits people in PvP

@delosombres Yeah, but you need to repair it everytime and eBOT has 200% vs undead, so it is good for Sactuary.

I rolled a near perfect poleaxe BoTD today for my fury Druid (cough Hero Editor cough)
Used an ebotd war pike for pvp on a charge pally. It was hilarious against mindblast because it could hit from a mile away

Breath of the Dying is a must imo if you want to take on Ubers with a Frenzy Barbarian. BotD and Grief or dual BotD, but that's really expensive, so most people I know do BotD and Grief
Botd and death for the cb and ds rocks ubers. I went into a p8 uber run everybody was dying and I solod it with a level 87 ww barb utilizing that combo
Imho, there are only 2 truly viable ('best in slot', which you want from a runeword that requires a Zod) choices:
1) Greater Poleaxe on a WW barb, hits max ias breakpoint AND offers 5 range, damage is ok....dual 'Grief' is better dps of course (not to mention more crushing blows), BUT playing with 5 range can be really fun.
[EDIT: Apparently I'm a moron, see the comment below. Point 2) about the Avenger should still hold true though.]
2) Berserker Axe on an avenger pala (since 'Grief' doesn't work with vengeance it's practically impossible to beat BotD here)....if anyone actually wants to play this dull class :D

Yeah and a Pheonix procs firestorm too often and slows down your bowazon it sucks cus I was trying a fire exploding arrow build haha. I did this on bnet and used the fastest bow in game was a mistake for sure haha. Demon crossbow sucks :p
Might as well use windforce or perf upgraded buriza haha..
You forgot to mention that with a CB EBOTD as a barbarian you can choose to run 1hand/shield, dual wield or even two handed. It is not only best style points but most flexibility points :)

BotD is awesome, but I still far prefer Death. Granted, you don't have any IAS from it, but with the damage modifiers on Death, I've found it to have higher clear speed.

Great pole axe is the best base for 2handed....style points,ias break point,4range adder,solid avg dmg...can easy demolish smiters in pvp with a ww barb due to that massive range adder.
I like EBOTD in Zerker on zealer with A1 merc using Faith and using a Highlords ammy and 20ias gloves for the 4/4/4/8 BP. Then I use dreams and lvl 25 conviction.

I just started to play D2 again after many many years. I wanted to go deeper a little this time, understand the mechanics, etc. So I love your videos, keep up the good work! I have a question: Do you have any tips for leveling? What is most concerning me is playersX command. I'm using players8 from the start, my sorc is lvl50 now and I'm having a pretty hard time :D But the XP is awesome. Is players8 worth it? I died only 2 times but the potion management, and the long fights are really tiring. I wonder if its more effective to lower the difficulty, and reach endgame faster. So my question is: What playersX you use for leveling? Especially for a fresh start. Thank you man!
XP and monsters life follow the same % numbers on playersX. So you don't really get a real xp advantage by increasing the player command when your starting a character. Usually you do P8 for the fun/challenge.
The most important point is to focus boss packs and run past others when you can. You'll get more XP by being in higher lvl zones, especially on a sorc which doesn't care about attack rating. On melee builds you have to worry about your % hit, level is important to rise it but the better the stuff the less lvl you need.
Only don't teleport to fast to Norm Diablo, xp table are made so that you get shit xp if you are 24 or less at Norm act 5 or higher. I think the mercenary have the same problem, so get him/her lvl 25 in act 4 or hire a 25+ when available.
If you wan't to learn more on leveling i advise you to watch some speeruns, they go through leveling in a blast. MrLlama in particular made some tutorials about speedrunning. You don't have to go as fast as them but you'll definitively get through leveling faster.
Last point, if you use Plugy and you make several characters, you can use all the stuff you have in your stash and you'll go very fast cause you don't have to farm for your stuff at the usual farmed bosses.
Instead of 2 spears, I would have gone with a different class. You made your case against thunder mauls, but how about a hydra bow?
I've rolled a couple. Honestly though, Faith in a Grand Matron is far better. You really can't argue against Fanaticism with a potential for +2 all skills and (preferably) +3 bow skills. It's a beastly weapon.

Absolutely agree! I made a BoTD in an etheral thunder maul and love it. It is fast, and does HUGE damage. I use it on my fury druid. I got an extremely good roll as well.

I'd go with Death zerk - but that's what I use. I'll try a Grief phase blade out, but the issue is the low damage on them.
The only phase I've ever liked is Azurewrath - which is a beast against physical immune, especially undead. Sanctuary isn't nerfed in Hell like elemental damage.
Grief, hands down. I have those 2 in my sp, grief is just so disgustingly op compared to others, even with death's cb, ds and all. Glacial procs are a thing of beauty though. I actually prefer it because of that (plus it makes the game a little more immersive with the inferior damage).

I'd like to know of BotD will proc the poison nova on kill when your merc uses it but you the player are killing?
Does it only benefit the wearer? I want to put on merc with Andariel helm so they would have insane life leech and will be spamming poison novas both on kill and when struck.
I have a Tesladin using Grief so I seem to do way more killing than my merc

I have a question for you. I cannot remember if this works together or not. Does the crushing blow and deadly strike+ stats on off hand work with your main hand? Example frenzy barb with death and grief with grief in main hand. ???? I just cannot remember haha 😃😂
Personally I use eBOTD in zerker axe with Beast on my frenzy barb. Nice combination.

Ebotd warpike can be used for a 2h zealot build which does more damage than 1h zealots in exchange for being more squishy.
I've been reading about 2h zealots on the internet. Apparently, there's this debate between ebotd warpike and eDeath colossus sword as best in slot.

Empirical tests seem to favor ebotd though his set up wasn't perfectly optimized for eDeath. War traveller is better than gore riders with eDeath.
Also, the first two hits of whirlwind are the same regardless of IAS. So if you keep your whirlwinds short, a slow ebotd weapon for whirlwind can kind of work.
Still pretty cool to have more melee options.

Also, you forgot to mention the speed bugged eDeath / eBotD for both the Berserker Axe and Sword for frenzy barb. Its my favorite setup. Sure Grief is more damage (15-20% more) but it lacks survivability and CB).

Would you say that botd is the strongest overall melee weapon on vanilla sp without ladder runewords? I guess eth tomb reaver would be better for fury druids but that's only one build.
