    Agree on safeties. I use them to perform administrative tasks including loading, unloading, holstering and reholstering. .40 is a great defensive caliber as well-or .357Sig.

    40 makes bigger holes than 9mm. I love how everyone says "it is all about shot placement" when very few of them can hit a quarter at 10 feet at the range. If, God forbid, I have to put holes in someone, I want those holes to be the biggest holes I can make. My primary carry gun is a 357 Sig. My secondary is also a 357 Sig. My tertiary is a 380.

    I own a p2000 .40 LEM i got new for $400. first lem experience, got a USP .40 and USPC .45 (my favorite round), out of the 27-ish pistol ive owned and operated with the HK P30LS V3 is my faovirte (added a heavy lazy wolff trigger return spring for dirt cheap then $160 all-in for the trigger and short reset function (not co9unting hiring someone, man. I'm too poor to even have the collection I got. Just finding right stuff at right prices, often having to sell most unfortunately)
    anyway, took 12 years (or aso) but FINALLY got the P30L and what an amazing gun no matter .40 or 9mm or .357 sig!

    Very good video. I've been a fan of the P30 series for many years and carry either a P30 v1 or P30sk v1 regularly. I've had a USP40 and VP40 for a while now and have enjoyed shooting them way more than I thought I would. That experience has me considering adding the P30L in .40 to the collection, mostly for fun and the occasional pistol match. My only real complaint is that v1 (light LEM) P30's are harder to find then hen's teeth. I could live with a v3 but it seems that the "s" (safety) models are the only ones being made in .40 now. I'm just not a fan of a safety on a DA/SA pistol, and there's something about the placement and shape of HK safeties that makes them feel off to me.

  • @JustDefense
    @JustDefense 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Love DA/SA. The long first pull is an added safety feature, because training doesn’t make humans infallible and it gives you a “confirm” moment to fire that first round, and also to avoid NDs, especially when holstering (as does the exposed hammer). I won’t appendix carry with striker guns if I can avoid it-relegating those to strong side carry and otherwise to duty retention holsters. Have that model in 9mm en route as we speak. Can’t believe the dip in price on that HK engineered to hell and back pistol.
    I asked HK to modernize the USP but of course they ignored me. Heh. But still a great pistol as well as the P30L

    • @doitriteak
      @doitriteak  28 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Recoil is a combination of two characteristics. Felt and perceived. Judging from the side is unrealistic. 90 percent of people would think 9mm recoil like a 357 if they see it from the side. My feedback is accurate. Its only increased vibration sensation and the muzzle doesn't change direction aggressively like 9mm lovers claim

    I have the P30L lem . i am quite happy with the performance and it is a .40 S&W. I decided on the longer veraion and I think for me anyways probably the best choice. For those of you who own a LEM version will most certainly umderstand what I am talking about.
    I have been adding HK firearma to my collection since the 80's. One of my favorite CCW sidearms happens to be the P7M8. I passes up a P7M10 years ago and I am still kicking myself over it. I have an HK 91 & 95 . I finally laid my hands on a SP5 which I thought I would never own. The USP i have is still a favorite even though mag capacity falls short by todays standards.
    Anyone have a P7M10 and feeling especially like letting it go please let me know.
    I purchased a USP light when I purchaced my USP. I believe they are made by Inforce for HK.
    The VP series I will most certainly pass on. The P30L with the LEM I can assure you is leaps and bounds ahead of the VP's. Plus you have second strike capabilites.
    Great review. Thank you.

    My uncle owns a P30 in .40 s&w. It’s a fun handgun for the caliber, I’ve been a fan of the p30 since John wick but getting the gun in my hand for the first time I did notice drawbacks. Chief among them, the trigger, to much much after the slack before the break and the reset is long. And this is more an issue with me, but I’m a small guy with small hands, so the mag release is a little difficult for me. Other than that, if I owned one, I’d change out the trigger and swap in the small grips.

    • @doitriteak

  • @subgunsnake6022

    Dave brah, I have over 3,000 rounds through my P30L LEM. It's been pimped with the gray guns straight trigger, short reset system and nickel plated sear spring. I love the handgun dearly, but I do think the Walther PDP is the next gen German greatness. Particularly the full length grip texture and the better placed PPQ style levers. The levers are just high enough that the support hand doesn't clamp it down. And I don't have to shift my grip to hit the button, probably the only push button grip that I don't have to shift my grip. The HK paddle release on the P30L is not perfect for my medium sized hands and I still have to shift my grip, because the paddle is just slight too short for my trigger finger to release it, however I will concede that it is absolutely accidental release proof vs the push button and it's actually ambidextrous

    • @subgunsnake6022
      @subgunsnake6022 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also I'm surprised that you bought another P30 after having sold your previous, but then again it's the handgun I keep coming back to myself. I sold my Omega CZ 75, pimped SIG P229, guchi all steel PPQ Q4, pimped Beretta 92X Centurion, but I still have my P30L! The magwell sucks and it's not easy to slap a red dot on it, but wow it's awesome! Langdon Tactical very recently started doing red dot cuts and trigger work for the P30 series. I have Trijicon HD XR's on my P30L, but I'm telling you man the red dot just spanks, yes even under stress and speed and I can slap targets way more accurately much farther away. As soon as the dot is on target, click.

    What do you think so far about the longer mag release on the P30 vs the USP? I've heard some people find part of the P30's mag release digs into their finger somehow while shooting.
    Also, I doubt something like this would actually happen in real life, but I thought it was interesting many years ago when Tim (from Military Arms Channel) was playing around with his VP9 and threw the thing against a tree, or against a steel plate laying against a tree, and I guess the impact broke the magazine release lever on the gun. It was kind of a silly video, but it made me wonder if the smaller lever on the USP might give it a small advantage of being harder to break because it is so small and less exposed.
    I wish new USP 40s were 600-700 dollars!

    • @doitriteak
      @doitriteak  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I find that both releases are easy to reach, but obviously the P30 has a larger release which may be slightly easier. I find that using the trigger finger on the release makes both pistols just as easy to reload

    Wait wait wait. The USP rail system which isn’t the greatest and that isn’t up for debate. But are you conceal carrying this pistol with a light?
    If the light is on the gun as a home defense pistol then why would the rail is “clunky”? If it fits the light securely.
    If it’s an ergonomic issue because of smaller hands. Then that’s understandable.
    If it’s an aesthetic issue then, okay. That’s in the eye of the beholder at that point.
    As for the red dot. Most folks who use these types of aids is due to deteriorating eye site as they get older.
    And lastly. If you get an eye exam that specifically looks at the color your eye and brain recognizes. Maybe the color red isn’t the color your eyes pick up instantly. It could be green or blue etc.
    Wouldn’t that be more important if you’re running irons?
    Great stuff. And thanks for your time.

    Seems like you had a rough move, and I hope things are going better these days...
    Regarding the .40 S&W, it has always had something of a lackluster reputation for accuracy compared to some others....have you found this to be true at all, or is it merely hyperbole?
    I handled a P30L almost ten years ago, and it felt great in my small paws...would love to shoot one someday....
    I like 9mm fine for most tasks, but I also tend to prefer good, non-expanding ammo, such as Buffalo Bore hardcast or the copper stuff from Lehigh, for any handgun work south of .357 level, but that's just me...

      It has more to do with cost than anything else. When bean counters count a budget, federal agency ammo stocks can have a variance of 50 to 100 grand. If 9mm costs 20 cents per round and the 40 costs 21 cents per round, and they are buying ammo in the millions, it can make a difference for the federal agencies. But then they take that savings and put it into donations to the Democratic convention

Stop crying people, they’re just there to safely decock after deployment.
