Derek isn’t the one sleeping on an air mattress. Derek isn’t the one who had to give up his passion for people he barely knows.
Derek CHOSE to date OP’s mom, so he needs to suck it up and deal with his girlfriend. He’s an adult and OP is still a child. Adults should NOT take priority over a child in cases like these. OP’s mom and Derek are actively ruining her life in every way possible, and she hasn’t done anything to deserve it.
Just look at how unfairly they’re treating OP. Lily was allowed to completely take over OP’s art studio, which completely robbed OP of the chance to ever create art at home. Then, to make things even worse, Lily gets to entirely redecorate OP’s former art studio with OP’s mom and Derek paying for all of it.
Lily is getting the princess treatment while OP is still forced to room with her mom. It’s beyond selfish to force your daughter into essentially uprooting her entire life at home and to completely give up her passion for the sake of Derek, who she’s only been dating for 6 MONTHS, not even a year, and Lily.
OP’s mom and Derek could easily fix all that by rooming together, but they won’t. OP’s mom will just keep making excuses as to why her and Derek are treating OP like trash. OP’s mom has an inherent duty to take care of OP and fulfill her needs, but she chose to neglect her in favor of her “new family.”

The Mom is a mess. I think OP would have been comprehensive with a Middle-ground without having to resort at punishing Lily who did nothing wrong. Keep the man and Lily while having OP stays at her Dad's house and catching up for lost time, and occasionally do some Mother & Daughter moments. I feel like this went all too wrong over nothing.

I totally understand why the mom is upset over the fact that the daughter moved in with the dad. Dude’s been gone this entire time & now that he doesn’t have to actually parent he sudden he wants to step up. Make it make sense. However, the mother also has to acknowledge that if she wasn’t so d*cked whipped then her daughter would’ve still been with her.
