Hey NL, I don't know if you'll ever read this, but if you want to maximize the money you can make in a daily challenge, do as many side-areas as possible (like the Mothership) because they give out huge rewards and can make you repeat floors for extra cash/health.
It's interesting to see what kind of different tactics are out now to beat this game since this video, 10 months ago, was aired. Especially the Olmec kill is now handled very differently I'll say.. less a threat. That said, this is still a very good run :)
It's been really awesome watching since the first time you played the XBLA Spelunky, from when Olmec seemed like an impossibility, and watching you slowly get better and better to where you're finally at the point where beating hell is a strong possibility.
NL, it's not the locusts that heal you from the mummies, it's the vomit that comes out with them, as shown in the Kapala article on the wiki: "The vomit that Mummies produce when using their fly swarm attack can also be used to fill the Kapala. By standing on a level below a mummy, they will use the attack repeatedly, producing large amounts of vomit. It is possible to accumulate an extremely high amount of health with ease by exploiting this behavior."
Hey NL! Loved the run! I just want to suggest that if you're in hell and have a bunch of bombs (like this run) it's really worth using 3 or 4 to get Vlad's Amulet. With the pitchers mitt and sticky stuff you can easily clear the top area where he's sleeping and kill him without waking him up. Then you're immune to lava men and you can literally run around in lava like it's water; something that's really useful for the Yama fight!
The biggest payoff for ghosting IIRC is ghosting vaults which give you $50,000. Unfortunately, it also causes all shopkeeppers for the rest of the game to get angry with you, and I don't quite have the experience with them yet to deal with shopkeepers every floor on the temple, city of gold, and hell. One day, though!
Hey NL, vlads amulet makes you immune to fire. And on yama's fight, you took the best spot to kill him. To make your life easier tho you coudlve bombed the block over you. All you need is 1 block to protect your head and youre good. Good job on the great runs. I honestly never thought you would make it to hell when you started playing spelunky.
*** VOTE THIS UP SO HE CAN SEE IT*** If u have a cape and u slowly glide onto spikes,they do not damage you,so u can actually land on them with the cape safely:) easier that using tons of bombs:) Nice job!
Hey NL, if you shoot a web on the wall with the web gun, jump up the web and shoot again (and jump again etc.) you can use it as makeshift climbing gloves!
NL, you are missing out on a lot of health when you have the kapala. You can whip the small harmless things like little frogs and grasshoppers in the temple. They give a lot of blood and you can usually get it all.

Hey. Love ur videos dude, almost as muxh as i love spelunky. One thing about this run you should bear in mind....at 29.40 there was a perfect opportunity to farm the shit out of mummy vomit using the kapala. Just stand on platform below (or hang using climbing gloves) and get hitpoints galore
Good job on defeating yama twice on a daily! As one of the better spelunky players out there (at least by ranking lol^^) i think that what you said in the video shows your interest in getting higher scores so i have 2 advices: 1.Learn to kill shopkeepers, and kill them ALWAYS, once you know how to minimize the risk (you waste a lot of money(score) on items and you still get less since you cannot afford all of them). 2.Get into ghosting, which is made rather easy by1.(tip:icecaves+jet pack+vault)

i remember that time NL had so much trouble bringing the key from the mines to the tunnel man in the ice caves to unlock the shortcut. I still cant believe i did it in my first try and still could not beat the boss!

Gone are those days and now I think he usually plays through everything the first time off camera and then has the lets play of a 2nd play through instead :(
There are numbers called "seeds" that are used in procedurally generated games. In a daily challenge, everyone has the same seed. While it's possible for developers to circumvent this, it would likely be more than a day's work to do even a little "hand crafting" on a daily challenge, so I am guessing there is no hand-crafting involved.
Actually you can, and NL knows how to, since he talked about it himself, get a hired hand and pick them up after letting them pick up the item you want, and try placing them somewhere safe ^^
You are a brave man using the boomerang on the aliens in the Ice Caves. I never take the boomerang into the Ice Caves for that reason, the temptation to throw it at them and get them hooked back into me is just too great. GG but I cannot believe how chickenshit you were right at the end. Everything was dead and there was like 20+ rubies left and you just bailed. I mean that is just the definition of pussing out.
Michaelalfox is a friend of NL's that also streams stuff. "Michaelalfox died" is a joke about how he disappears off the internet for large periods of time due to work.
They let you see the gems inside the rocks of the level, it is the same thing that the Udjat eye does and it is considered really bad because of that redundancy.
