Seeing the Tornado and Thunderbolt still active and its prime in this video is fantastic. I never seen footage in color of the Tornado. I wonder what the guy near the end would have said if he witnessed today's Coney Island missing the Tornado and 1925 Thunderbolt.
Awww I was 9 when my mom brought me to Coney, and it was in 1973. I want to cry when I think of how much is gone at Coney Island. Especially in the past 10 years.
4:33 this was a old ride. It was like a hydraulic boost drop tower but it was for water theme the capsule wast shape as a diving bell it has been since been removed, because when you ride on it the first time it’s fun but for a tenth time it isn’t.
My friend and I took the subway from Manhattan to Coney Island in the summer of 1976 we were in high school place was dilapidated but we didn’t notice we just were smoking weed all day and going on the roller coasters etc. it was all one big party good times…. Used to also go to Asbury Park in New Jersey. That was pretty cool as well.
I haven't been to Coney Island. But I have been to the Long Beach Pike in the early 70's. These rides wouldn't make it with todays standards. And if you rode them you would see why. Most of them are bone snapping, rattly and uncomfortable. Todays rides are comfortable and silky smooth. The people on the other hand have changed for the worse. Even though heavy drug traffic is what helped shut down the pike.
Lol I've ridden quite a few of the rides in this video honestly. When I started going to CI in around 2000, before it, too, was gentrifying, it was still pretty much unchanged though far fewer rides since then.
I was 15 yrs old in 1973, everything in this video brings back vivid memories of Coney Island

Thoroughly enjoyed, love NYC nostalgia ....

This is beyond classic....
That cyclone roller coaster was the first and last roller coaster ride I ever took. It scared the be-Jesus out of me! That was a long time ago.
That diving ride looks awesome!!
Phil this is a fantastic video - the shots, the music, the voiceovers...you were very talented at age 16!
I turned 10 that summer. This is really cool to see.
Great rare video of the Tornado (Bobs) rollercoaster at 7:01 . Thanks for sharing .
Thank you very much for this video. It brings back good memories for me.
I wonder how Avenue H stop looked on the way to Coney Island in 1973
Great memories. I still go every year to Coney Island. They built many new Roller Coasters
I was coming up five in the November. Nice to see Coney Island as it looked back then.
Warriors...come out to playay...
😂
This is the Coney Island I remember so well. The smells mixture of cotton candy and rotten popcorn. Those odors are long gone.
I was 4, in 1973. My long term memory is great. I'm 54, I can't even remember why I picked something up.
I have not been in Coney Island, but it seems a place for workers and their family. It is not like Nassau Bahamas
Memories, oh those diving bells.

Amazing film
the projects killed it! but now we have a slight come back, luna park. it would be great if they came! like the corn field of dreams!
Those were the dayz when you could go out and have a good time and not worry about any violence to bad
Well maybe in 1963 by 1973 New York was already pretty dangerous
Wow I was born 1973!
Great memories.
Compared to the Coney of 1907-11 this is a horror.
Brought to you by the people of the community not TH-cam.
There is a Good chance I was there that Year

RIP to the NYC 💀
I sure remember the litter and the hotdogs from the Jewish lady 😊
Anybody know "Ralph Martello" who was accidentally killed at one of Coney Islands shooting range?
still better and cheaper than Disney !!!
No thanks to Fred Trump for destroying Steeplechase park building in 1966. This video is great. Six years before the Warriors Movie.
Phil, did you made this?
Yes, with high school buddy Steve Siegel when we were 16.
Phil Buehler what day when you shooting the film?
No idea what day - we shot a bunch of days - sometime between June and August 1973.
Phil Buehler what is the ride at 4:37?
@@crunkstud The diving bell
Way to expensive Disney sucks today compared to Coney Island in it's heyday. It was world renouned from the 20s to the 60s.
Omg it's the zoo trains
Janet Riggione HAHA!! So racist!!
