Rupaul calling out Nelson's name when the wheel jumped a bit was the sweetest thing ever. They had such a pure friendship.

Some of these comments say Ru got rid of Nelson’s dog when he died, and squatted on his place, idk if that’s true, but that makes me sad, because Nelson loved his dog, and wanted him to be with his friend if anything happened

The fact that they didn’t have mobile phones to entertain themselves and he was uncertain of the time of the day. They all soaked in each other’s shared presence, the vibrant and the silent moments, and it was normal not awkward. So engagingly beautiful.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I was 2 years old in 1988, but I can still remember the early/mid-90s and how we interacted with each other.
Everyone was always PRESENT and since there were no mobile phones, no one could escape or retreat into some app to avoid each other's gaze/presence.
Truly wonderful, I'm glad I could at least enjoy my childhood and youth without smartphones.
There's just no real depth to most relationships nowadays it seems. People have been zombified by technology.

@@mistersurrealist I’m thirteen and I agree, we barely socialise with anyone on trains anymore, most teens my age like myself surround ourself in a stimulation. We barely go out like back then, it’s only at school where we socialise, sometimes at the canteen table we are just on our phones. Depressing I must say, truly depressing.

For anyone interested, the bonus features of Party Monster: The Shockumentary show some extended footage from this day (along with a lot more that you won't see on youtube), including the full ride on the Wonder Wheel; you see everyone sharing a joint at the top of the ride, having a good time when the ride's in motion then going still and quiet whenever they reach the ground level (someone jokes: "does anybody smell marijuana?"). Nelson laments that the joint runs out too quickly and asks someone to light another one, but they only brought the one on the ride.

It was a sense of being OK; survival. The competition in NYC now is fierce, disgusting. So many variables working AGAINST you. Tired of seeing transplants living the "life" here, whereas a native "New Yawker" won't get that good job, or beautiful apartment; although they've earned the same degree. They really don't want us OGs here anymore. They want the "new" NYC; Minnesota, Idaho, Utah, Iowa, Oregon, etc. I'm not salty, though; I've accepted what isn't. @@xtympsHi! Apologize if I came across "terse", but as a kid(I'm 42 years old), born and raised in Brooklyn, Coney Island has changed quite a bit. To give perspective, I remember they days where you could lie UNDER the boardwalk, to shelter you from the hot sun. Also, although I was young, I remember the old Spanish men selling "cerveza" from there coolers on the sand. And the rides? Wow, call them basic, but boy were they fun! Now, to get a wristband from Luna Park is around $50! Not to mention the price of concessions; I bought a slice of plain pizza on the boardwalk and it was about $6 (2019, pre Covid-19). The water doesn't even have any seashells anymore! And now, BBQs are prohibited on the beach and to go "metal" detecting or hosting a party, you need a fucking permit! 😑 The 80's, yes they were rough, but there was a certain freedom, an air of "joie de vivre", if you will, that can never replaced or replicated.
