*Bought a 500 for an ultralight rod. It's very smooth **enjoyable.fishing** recommend casts great. One odd thing- the bale wire is a bit heavy diameter in my opinion for a reel of this size. But a great purchase.*
Bail* and this reel isn’t made for ultralight. It’s a medium saltwater reel. If you want a really high quality freshwater reel grab a Shimano FK. That’s my personal favorite.
Took my brand new Battle II 5000 for a spin yesterday for the very first time and I hooked a 20lb yellowtail using a Ugly Stik X2 (medium hard) rod th-cam.com/users/postUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . This combo was recommended on some website and it did not disappoint me. The reel is smooth, the drag click is pretty cool cause i think it adds to the excitement of fighting the fish, personally the drag is my favorite part. I use braid and 300 yards will fill the entire spool. This combo is my main setup from now on although I have to disclose I am new to fishing.
Works great for fluke. Bought it as a fluke and tog reel because of the line take up and sealed bearings. Waiting to get on tog but Mother Nature hasn't been good to me lately. Hoping 2019. Good review. Thanks.
Great review! Slammer III 4500 is my go to snook reel. With that super strong drag, I don't need to go any heavier. 30lb sufix 832 braid. Seaguar floro leader as light as conditions will allow. Usually 40lb Star Seagis rod or an Adventurous Custom rod
Could of gotten a Penn Clash also. The rotor on the clash is graphite but is super strong. And I believe the larger models on the clash have Brass gears.
Good review . Waiting for mine to arrive . Also got the 4500 . Nice bearings in the handle . What a shame they didn't use the same for the Bail Roller ? ( plastic bushing ) . But super solid reel !
Ever try KastKing braid? Been using their 9 braid 40lb and standard 20lb on all my reels, best bang for your buck 1/2 price of most braided line and just as strong.
it's 2021 and the shimano saragosa SWA just came out in 2020 with a SPX8 water rating. the slammer iii hasn't been updated since 2016, so why hasn't the price come down on the slammer iii's?
Hi bro! Thanks for the video. I think I will buy a Slammer 3 (or 4, if it will costs under €200). Do you think is a good reel for Shore jigging 60-100g? A size 5500 would be good for me?
I got a few(3) Battle II's and the end of last season; broke the main gear on my 4000 on a 22" tog.... Hillyer's Tackle in Waterford CT took care of me and replaced the reel next day. The drag is inconsistent on the 2500 (after 15 albies) and the rotor loosened up on my 3000 a few weeks ago . How did your Slammer hold up this year?
Jeff Brinkman it's still goin strong I've caught 6 pound blackfish on it, 15 pound blues, lot of big fluke, I'll probably do an actual review video of it over the winter but I'm impressed so far for a mid priced reel
Hello my friend congratulations for the very detailed video and very useful for people like me who want a good reel and at the same time it is economic. I have a question and I would like if you could help me .. that reel you choose between the daiwa bg 4000 and The penn slammer 4500. thanks
el-xakal H_AqUiLes to be honest I have absolutely no experience with with that diawa reel I know nothing about it and I've never held one. So I can't be of much help there unfortunately sorry about that.
Saad Jan I haven't played with the spin fisher I really don't know a whole lot about it. All I know is the 8500 size is a huuuge reel so i wouldn't know
Lost 7 mickey lures on the penn slammer 3 5500. Claimed that the bail doesn't slam shut when you cast. Lost my receipt now it's going to cost me to get it fixed too?
Vichea Chim I've been using it for a while now and I haven't had any problems with my 4500 bail closing at all. Not once. But i have heard of a lot of returns with this reel. I'm not sponsored by them by any means it's the only penn I own I just show what I buy and enjoy makin videos. Sorry to hear that tho try contacting penn and writing online reviews giving them feedback is only going to help.
Hey man, just started watching all your videos, good stuff. I was actually thinking about getting this reel. I’m going to use it for everything. Fluke, tog, sea bass, blues, etc. you think the 4500 can handle a 30lb striper with a decent set of shoulders?
Chris Nyzio yeah definitely! I’ve caught giant bluefish on it and it handled it fine. The reels real bulky and strong for its size and it works awesome for fluke and tog as well! Thanks for watching my videos and tight lines brother!
Send it back. No matter what company it is, no matter what style reel it is, theres always gunna be a bad egg every now and then. Something like that should NOT happen. Penn customer service is really good they'll probably send you a brand new reel or fix the problem.
No problem my man! Sorry to hear about your inconvenience Lol buy a lotto ticket too because defects are not common! if it makes you feel any better I blew a brand new diawa spinning reel apart the other day lol your not the only one! tight lines!!!!
Sarah Cool depends what you're using the rod for. A 4500 size isn't too big of you're using light line it would be fine but for a surf rod I would recommend bumping to the 5500. Just to be safe than sorry. I believe the 5500 costs a little more but that would be the perfect reel for that rod.
ok but the 5500 weighs like 22oz the clash 5000 weighs 16.9oz that was my other choice but really like the slammer 3 also the carnage 2 surf rod is supposed to be really light i could even get the medium light it Says lure 1/2-2oz and the medium says 3/4-3 there both thin sls construction what do you think
Sarah Cool okay perfect then that you can totally get away with using the 4500. I didnt know if you were gunna get it for cut bait or anything for the surf. Because then you'd want a larger reel but 20 pound braid you can put 390 yards of line on that thing you'll be all set
Ram Talbo depends what you’re using it for. It’s mainly designed for pe2-3 so if you’re running 4 you’re not gunna get a whole lot of casting/fighting distance. But if you’re using it for like blackfishing vertically it’ll be fine.

Nick Trench nope, I'll have to give it a try!
thanks again for everything

Not a clue brother I just buy shit and make videos I’m not affiliated with this company.

Yeah you can probably even go smaller. Depends on the water depth youre fishing
I bought the 10500 and put 760 yd of 65 LB Power Pro and it love it
Are you fishing elefants?
Lmao
Aviv Gannon sharks
Have you considered a TICA TALISMAN TG 4000 INSTEAD???

I see.. I am looking a deal on jet.com for $160 penn spinfisher v 8500 combo..7' rod.. Should I get it?
Saad Jan I haven't played with the spin fisher I really don't know a whole lot about it. All I know is the 8500 size is a huuuge reel so i wouldn't know
This reel is on Amazon right now , Dec 2018 for $188, great deal 👍

Great video bro. I just received mine today.
1057ag thanks bud! Can't wait to rip some lips with it!
nice review man! I just picked up the same reel
a 3500 would be fine for reshwater, pickerel catfish bassing right?
frostedy0 yes of course but these reels are heavy man. Like holding in your hand all day freshwater fishing sucks tbh it gets tiring
Go down to a 3000

Fishin203 thanks for the info. Looking forward to new vids. Tight lines.
It will handle 200lb shark if you use good leader and good knots ect
I'm gonna get this for my 9' avid surf and load it with 30# invisibraid.
So fast FFW to 3019 what would you chose slammmer or spinnfisher 6??
Who Me I’m not too familiar with the spin fisher so my opinions kinda useless. Sorry about that.
yeah i really like that reel
Do you know if the spool fits on a Spinfisher V 3500/4500 reel body?
Salvador Miralla unfortunately I don’t know. Sorry.
Thanks for that !
I picked up the 4500 & 5500!
how much different is the 4500 in size compared to the 5500? the 4500 doesnt look much smaller.
The 5500 is quite a bit larger than the 4500
you have any problems with the drag? Just got mine and it stays tight for the most part.
Nicholas Schwing drag was super smooth on mine out of box. What size you get?
Fishin203 4500, no matter how loose I make it gotta work to pull line out
Send it back.

Has it lasted?
Is it good for shore jigging with jigs 80-100 grams?
Stelios Aliprantis yeah that sounds reasonable
@@Fishin203 thnx my friend....tight lines....
Do you have any issue with hard to crank after you cast the lure?
vsonic86 no I haven’t heard of any issues involving the reel handle. Sounds like a factory quality control issue.
Fishin203 damn you must be getting a good one then.
vsonic86 why is that a common problem with these reels?
Just bought aslammer3 4500 $150 on amazon. Why not. You sold me
Just got this for $125 on amazon . It’s half off today only
would that slammer 3 4500 reel be ok on a 9ft carnage 2
Sarah Cool depends what you're using the rod for. A 4500 size isn't too big of you're using light line it would be fine but for a surf rod I would recommend bumping to the 5500. Just to be safe than sorry. I believe the 5500 costs a little more but that would be the perfect reel for that rod.

Sarah Cool okay well tell me this. What are you going to be using the surf rod for? And where in the country?
ok sacramento by the delta for striper from the bank with 20# braid and 2 oz lures
Sarah Cool okay perfect then that you can totally get away with using the 4500. I didnt know if you were gunna get it for cut bait or anything for the surf. Because then you'd want a larger reel but 20 pound braid you can put 390 yards of line on that thing you'll be all set
The penn slammer III 4500 has 30lbs of drag, not 20
Good eye. I didn’t even notice I screwed that up.
Fishin203 naw naw you’re good man! Tight lines 🤙
Hi bro hows your slammer 4500?is it ok to put pe 4 line in 4500 slammer 3
Ram Talbo depends what you’re using it for. It’s mainly designed for pe2-3 so if you’re running 4 you’re not gunna get a whole lot of casting/fighting distance. But if you’re using it for like blackfishing vertically it’ll be fine.
thanks bro.do you have new video for slammer 3 4500
Ramil Montalbo comin out soon! I’m in the process of making a lot of reel videos right now!
Fishin203 im excited to watch.anyway i order berkly wiplash 8 braid 0.20mm 27.7kg breaking strain.
Ram Talbo never heard of it what is it new? Let me know how it holds up.
The loose drag is too sticky for me. Idk how to fix that
nolan tanaka drop of reel grease on the drag washer
How heavy is the drag on the 3500?
scrublord mcshitt claims to have the same 30lbs as this 4500.
Fishin203 thanks alot dude!
scrublord mcshitt no prob brother
Is there a followup posted?
Joe Doug not yet sorry I have to get that out!!
Definitely looking forward to it!
Which rod to use?
Saad Jan the slammer is a real heavy reel so I would say (depending on how your fishing) an 8-10 foot surf rod
Is the Penn 8500 spinfisher with 7' rod combo good for me??
Saad Jan what are you using it for? Grouper?
For fishing in east river nyc near my house..
Saad Jan the 8500 is a giant reel if you're using a 7 footer I would suggest a 4500
nice video..thanks for sharing.
Gotta scoot. Just saw the price....

Michael Edge Microtech Ultratech OTF Elmax steel

Would this reel be good for tarpon?
Outdoor_Life I don’t see why not if you have a good strong rod.
@@Fishin203 What would you consider a strong rod, a rod rated for 15-30lb line?
Outdoor_Life depends on how big of tarpon you’re going after lol. But something strong enough that you’re not over exerting the blank
