- This immortal western song " Drink to me only with…” inspired Rabindranath Tagore to compose a song "katobar bhebechhinu apano bhulia" ( “কতবার ভেবেছিনু আপনা ভুলিয়া” ) in 1885. It may be noted that this is not a translation of the English one. The song " Drink to me only…” was written by Ben Jonson in his poem "Song to Celia " in 1616.
Both the songs are presented here together, sung by the same artist, none other than SwagataLakshmi Dasgupta, an well known Rabindra Sangeet singer. And with her extra-ordinary rendition, the song “Drink to me only” has turned to be a real music to the ears & soul. It’s a music to listen again and again.

I was in class eleven when Swagatalakshmi Dasgupta came to Konnagar for a Rabindrasangeet programme. I had no clue who she was, I was not a Rabindrasangeet kind of chap but feigned an interest to impress a girl I had a crush on. I attended the function and was spellbound. Swagatadi became my Goddess. I didn't get the girl, but in my sadness and in my happiness I have Swagatadi and Rabi Thakur. Dujonakei janai soto sohosro koti pronam!

Mesmerized. Coming here after listening to Johnny Cash's version of this song. A friend sent that link. I immediately remembered this was Tagore's inspiration for a song. Then Google brought me here. Swagata di sings ethereally. Original Elizabethan tone and intonation. And perfect Bengali Tagore too.
