BTS scared the sh*t out of the Korean music industry. Before them, you had to be from the biggest 3 entertainment companies to succeed. And they broke the mold with their own creative freedom of lyrics, message, production, etc. And if BTS could do it that way, imagine how the industry felt that suddenly THEY had to up their game to not look like fools. But they still do because their are huge groups still together today that the company totally controls and manufactures the music they sing. You DEF should react to the guides others have suggested. Love your reactions and hope you'll continue on!
Broken molds are whats needed. Cookie cutter record labels with no innovation and only interested in profits make for weak artistry. Glad we have some innovators still around messing up the status quo!
The hate they were taking started long before they were successful. And it definitely wasn’t just jealous individuals and bands. It was systemic oppression. The big labels’ shareholders were watching this group destroy the large labels narrative for success.
Also, Korea is pretty conservative and hierarchical and most of the group were from poor and working class families and from a poor label which was founded specifically to be in opposition to the way the music industry was operating. So they were at the bottom of the hierarchy.
Additionally they face a lot of racism and xenophobia outside of Asia. And the industry outside of Asia works very similarly from a corporate level so they have the same issues with BTS success as an outsider.
I am 47 and love Metal and Hard Rock but I love BTs. The only pop band I ever stanned! Everrrrr

Glad you are enjoying BTS and ARMY, I am enjoying your insightful reactions. FYI I am an unapologetic 67 year old beautiful bastard :) and always pleased to welcome new ARMY when they trickle over the horizon. So far you've watched a few of BTS' recent songs and one that is a little older, but remember this is their tenth year as a band, they were always deeply involved in writing their own material and choosing their direction and aesthetic.They started out as a hip hop band and there have been some radical changes, but you might be surprised how hard their early stuff was. The mood is softer now, but the message is just as challenging.
At some point n the past, Bang Si Hyuk, who built BTS round RM, said he wanted to make an Idol group which would break the system. Said system was dominated by 3 massive management companies, JYP, SM and YG, who pretty much controlled all the press and music shows, recruited, trained and promoted their own groups and minimised any competition by freezing them out. While Bang Si Hyuk had been a very successful producer and had good relationships in the industry, when he formed Big Hit they were absolute minnows and struggled financially - at one point narrowly avoiding bankruptcy. Although RM and Suga had backlash and hate from their erstwhile rap friends, the real hate came from other companies and their fandoms. There was a lot of envy but there was also a real sense that they were dee[;y threatened - there is a lot of evidence of the companies actually co-ordinating campaigns to undermine BTS and ARMY. And that is still true. In Korea very little is known about BTS' worldwide impact, or the amount of money they bring in to the Korean economy, because the media operate a bit of a blackout on BTS news, because of the big three and their influence.
None the less, while the idol system is not yet broken, nearly every company and band are now trying to adopt practices that BTS made their own. Many bands now have more artistic freedom too. It's not broken, but it might just be changing. Good.
We are musicians we appreciate all aspects of music. Even groups or songs that we dont vibe with we still respect the craft, skill, talent and hard work it goes into. We love us some BTS though talented group of artists!

BTS obviously have more of a connection with their Korean tracks through writing and producing, unlike their English songs where they were not involved. These tracks were made for us during the pandemic to bring something light hearted and fun to the world during that dark time. The Grammy performance of Butter was amazing and got a standing ovation.💜
RM is one of the songwriters in butter creditlist.

One of my favorite songs from BTS is actually a Japanese single. For You. The dance version, is one of the best things ever.

butter is holding the record for the most views in the first 24h after it's release: 108.2m. it broke the record of Dynamite by BTS that gathered 101.1m views in first 24h
also broke the record on spotify for biggest debut with 11m listens filtered and 21m unfiltered
it also was taking #1 on BB hot100 for 7 weeks after its release. don't let that fool you, on 8th week it was replaced with Permission to Dance, another new release by BTS, and on the 9th week Butter took #1 again, still talking it on 10th too. then in september due to remix with Megan Thee Stallion it got another week on first place, so it's 10 weeks total. you can say all summer 2021 was smooth like butter lol

Their Korean songs are a better way to get a sense of what BTS sounds like... If you do another reaction (not that you have to) I'd suggest maybe Black Swan or ON:Kinetic Manifesto. Also their lives are amazing! 💜 I really appreciate your take on music and what some people count as "legitimate"... If it doesn't speak to you it's alright, but don't put down others for appreciating it! Thank you for the video :D

I agree they are one of the best intros. Nothing wrong with Taylors guide and many think she is the only one to watch but she doesn't focus much on the group as a whole and thats why I like rice squad , or even xceleste or Ida s along with Taylors.

RM had to change up the rap tracks on this, because the guys write their own lyrics, and this song wasn't written by them because it was a Western pop track with English lyrics meant to be an upbeat track to uplift their fans. So it was nice to hear the rap lyrics because they were personalized. Anyway, I like this song, but I like it better live. And I prefer their Korean tracks, because they write and produce those.

Thanks for reacting to Butter MV. I recommend you check the live performance of Butter at the 64th The Grammys where the performance was absolutely amazing. The concept of the performance and production was Mission Impossible & Now You See Now You Don't concept doing it Vegas style. Check it for yourselves and you will be amazed. It got a standing ovation from the audience. You can also check the live performance of Butter the AMA's last 2021.

[5:00 ->] When i first saw Hobi eating that thing at the end i was prauing - against knowing that they do their stunts practical - that is was a piece of banana - (nobody oud not have seen the difference!!!) Apparently poor Hobi took a LONG (I have some incredible number of "two hours" in my mind but I hope I'm remembering wrong) to film that tiny few seconds part and puked a lot of butter out of his mouth - poor thing :=(

bts were getting hate way before they were popular :] they were from the small label and even if they didn't face a breakthrough and were a pretty small act for years, they still had dedicated fans and organic growth. that's why big labels in south korea that ruled the kpop scene by money and connections felt threatened by bts, while other fandoms were very hateful for the same threat bts posed to their favorite groups. there were a lot of sabotage, lies, campaigns, petitions against bts on daily basis for years and years. that's besides the underground scene that thought that bts sold out by becoming and idol group, even when they were still nothing close to mainstream

Their very skillful dancing and dancing to Their choreographer, dance energy, dancing together and dancing charm.
Stage charisma.
Recall that BTS sings and dances at the same time - already it requires very great and hard training work and talent.
The lyrics and compositions of Their songs
- especially noted! How They are carefully constructed to support dance choreography or vice versa.
💜💜Their huge interaction with fans (ARMY). It's been important from the start!!
I would like to mention another important and significant point; BTS other activities. RUN series, Bon Voyage. VLogs/lives, Bangtan Bombs etc
Their musical popularity is based above all on BTS Korean-language songs!!! The Korean language is very beautiful to hear in songs and raps.
And one of the biggest things;
I've noticed in 4 years at BTS ARMY is 💜💗💗They inspire so emotionally, physically, artistically and creatively Their/Us listeners/and viewers.
BTS has a positive impact on ARMY's daily life - Positive mindset and habit.
We know its almost like they built their own multi-verse with army!

Bts is the biggest group in the world, the are 3 rappers and 4 vocalist the write and produced there songs. Bts have 6 nr 1 songs at Billboard 100 and 6 nr 1 Albums at Billboard 200. The sold out Stadium all over the world. Last year the won 3 Awards at Ama, Best group, Best song Butter and Artist Off The Year. Actually the "anti" movement started before that, when they were in Big Hit back when they were almost bankrupt, the music industry was really controlled by the other 3 big agencies, smaller independants didnt get a look in. The fandoms are also extremely protective as well and back then and before that there were fan wars between groups. So BTS were looked down on as Trash right out the gate, idols didnt know what to think and rappers were miffed with them and considered that both RM & Suga "Sold out" to be idols. So it was quite toxic right as they had debuted.

Taylor's guide's to BTS is the perfect guide
There are other guides that are very good too. Taylors is amazing but sometimes things were omitted or taken out of context. I think along with Taylor guide they should watch others as well like the rice squads . Its important to watch more then just one docuseries , Taylor really only focuses on the members which is great but it doesn't go into detail of the whole groups struggles, and how hard they worked to get to where they are today. Xcelestes and Ida s all have updated stuff. So yes Taylors is recommended for sure but let's not just recommended hers.

Taylor does focus more on the members, while giving a bit of background. Meanwhile, Rice Squad look at how the members came to join BTS, but then focuses on their musical journey. 👍
Personally, I think they go together perfectly. But all of the guides tend to come from a slightly different angle, which means that, by watching several, you begin to build up a good picture of BTS.
Though, to look at their personalities, the best ways are their VLives, Vlogs, and,of course, Run BTS💜
BTS official merch (including the light stick) and albums can be bought directly from the Weverse Shop (app). However, international shipping is quite costly and it takes a while to arrive. Sometimes Hybe sets up pop-up stores in select cities globally, or partners for a limited time with shops like Nordstrom for a few items.
For albums in the US, the usual retailers carry them, such as Target and Barnes and Noble; and if buying from Amazon, make sure it says sold AND shipped from Amazon.
To tack onto this comment, for those of us in the US, the Weverse Shop app has 3 divisions that you choose when using the app, the Global store (SK and most countries outside SK), the US store and the Japan store. This is because the US and Japan are their largest markets in individual countries and among the top music markets in the world. The US is the largest and I believe Japan is among the top 3 or 5? So this helps cut down on shipping charges for ARMY in these countries. For instance, in the US, most items have flat rate shipping, we just have to wait longer sometimes for shipping to start on new releases because the reduced rate is because the items are bulk shipped in shipping containers to the US warehouse. So when you order, you don't need to pay global air shipping rates, you're paying for ground shipping, but products that are new (ie. preorders) ship at a later date for US. Items in stock at the US warehouse will ship right away though. I think you said you're American like me, so just download Weverse Shop app and set to US store.
I enjoy their English songs, they’re fun but I prefer the Korean songs more. The Korean songs have more meaning.
Yeah, the English songs were light-hearted pandemic offerings. The Korean songs are layered with depth. ON Kinetic Manifesto Come Prima would be a great watch.
XCeleste makes the best intro videos. She's been doing it since the beginning. She is much more thorough than the others.
