Thank you Phil, for capturing what little remains of Croydon's heritage. I remember a lot of tops of buildings, studied whilst waiting ages for buses!!
I remember Croydon of the 1960-80s as a vibrant, busy town, proud to say I was born and brought up in Croydon. Last visit was the week before lockdown 2020 and it broke my heart.

Thanks Christine, I’ll be filming another annual update again this November, aiming to find more historical sites. The past view is so much better than the current one, sadly

Another great video. The dreary day matched the dreary town, in need of so much regeneration. Brought back memories of shopping for everything in Alders and getting my school uniform from Millets! Many happy hours spent in Our Price records and looking in the model shop in St Georges Walk at things I couldn't afford.
    Thanks.

Interesting but with a very large glaring mistake often made through people repeating what they read on Wikipedia. Surrey Street is not a very old market and does not date back to the 13th Century. It was in the 13th Century along with many other towns throughout England that Croydon was given Royal consent to hold a market on a particular day of the week. The markets in Croydon have been in many places over the years and changed to several different days by Royal consent. Surrey Street only became a market when Market Street was demolished between 1898-1905, in the great Old Croydon Triangle slum demolition. I also note that Kathrine Street is spelt wrong in several places, it is not Katharine. Otherwise an interesting film.

Thanks for pointing this out, I went with the published route from Croydon Council, expecting it to be accurate! I will note this for future work 👍🏻

@@philswallow No problem, Phil, a common mistake started by someone a few years ago and perpetuated by Wikipedia. I was of course joking about Kathrine, as an old Croydonian we actually pronounced it Kaffrin Street. Keep up the films I appreciate how well you do them.
