Hard Rock Caffe was really cool, back in the 1980's... they were absolutely nothing at all like they are now. You could get band T shirts and patches, studded leather bracelets, water bongs with tiny gold tags that read "not intended for illegal use", music records, things like that. They were no where near as expensive or hipster as they are now and it was mostly metal heads who went there. There main thing was not a restaurant in fact the local one didn't even have one.
I’m Italian and the old Nona (grandmother) is very true. Italian people will feed anyone willing. My bf learned this when he went to my family reunion and it constantly revolves around food. I can’t wait to go and see my family in Sicily!

To those suffering with chronic illness or conditions (*waves*), I realize that “live your life to the fullest” and life being temporary can be tricky to deal with - I know it can take a loooong time for me to get to points where I’m not suffering or my body is mocking me, so here’s a little nod to you and permission to just cope (which can be our version to living life to the fullest at times) and even sometimes NOT wish it were over. Keep hope alive as you can. Thanks to people like Black Friday, who may be able to do more than us, and gratitude for vicariously being able to enjoy these type of videos.

When we were there last year, we were able to get into the Vatican, but my parents made sure that I "toned it down"...even so, I was prepared to say the Nicene Creed or something. My brother kept telling me that I'm a real Goth now because I've "sacked Rome" lol

Catholic HQ AF. My mum and her partner were in Europe earlier this year, including Venice and Rome. So many beautiful things and sights and foods. Humid rain is the "best" rain! You can never have too many umbrellas. Tourists, bah. That old lady sounds like a woman my mum stayed with in France, made all the food gluten free for mum and everything. Lemon cake in most forms, is amazing. What an adventure.
I went to Rome literally I think the day before you. We saw the Colosseum and the crypts as well. Loved seeing your vlog to remind me of those places. 😊
I don't think you were being morbid at all...it _is_ quite true, be _will_ all die, and many of us do not have any real idea of when that will happen, so enjoy life. Take time to pause and truly _look_ at things around you every day. And yes, travel when possible! Way too many people - at least here, in the US - have that "when I retire I'll..." mentality and they literally have very little fun for most of their lives. Tragic, really. Also, I wish I could say that the crowds and venders have gotten much worse...but It was pretty much like that when I was there in the 90's. It can be a real introvert's nightmare! I ended up escaping to much lesser-traveled areas as often as I could.

About 25 years ago, I lived in Rome. From my bathroom I had a view of the Colosseum if I stood on the toilet - very scenic! At that time, the security around the Colosseum was non-existent - the gap in the railings was wide enough to squeeze through. Whenever friends visited, we would take them in late at night & climb up to the very top where in Roman times there were statues. Looking over the arena, it was easy to imagine gladiators & animals in battle, the crowds roaring their approval.
I'm so glad Mr. Owl is back. even though he prefers not to be on camera, he's still far more entertaining than that Michael guy. [yes, i know i got the name wrong but who gives a shit?]

In Southern Italy there are some pretty interesting places like the "martiri di Otranto" church where you have a collection of bones on the altar, and the catacombs in Palermo with a great collection of mummies where there is the mummy of Rosalia, a little girl that is famous for "opening her eyes" they call her sleeping beauty. Not to mention the "cimitero delle fontanelle" in Naples, you can walk among 40.000 skeletons. Italy is incredibly rich in this sense, it would be the perfect place for a goth tour with good food, so you see skeletons but you definitely don't become one!!
I went to Rome like a couple of weeks before you posted this, I wonder if we were there at the same time?? We stayed in a hotel called The Black Hotel and the pool was black 😍
Omfg I had a Lavazza flat white every chance I could when I was in Dublin and Edinburgh. The flat white just isn’t a thing here in America (except at Starbucks and it’s good, but not nearly as good) and now I am hooked on Lavazza coffee. 💜 I love your travel vlogs. I so much want to plan a Prague getaway because of you!! The airfare is so cheap right now!!
