Saw him DJ in Paris once, amazingly it was an accident as we couldn't get in the party we wanted, and it was amazing.
All vinyl groovy synthy house perfection!

I know this probably won't be a top performing video for you but this was so immensely helpful to watch you arrange a track from start to finish and talk about all the decisions and small things you did along the way as well as keeping in the parts where things don't work and showing how you fix them. No one ever shows the process how it really is and I've always felt like im doing this wrong because of how long it takes me but this video showed me that its just like that for everyone. You mention at the end about this being boring, but this honestly was not at all boring to watch and I wish there was more content like this. Always appreciate your knowledge and wisdom Ricky!

these last uploads since 1 year or so have been so rich in self-analyzing bits over your creative process, these add so much value to your content, hope u well dude (:

The way you’ve spaced out the process like this (multiple videos released each week) is perfect for being able to follow along in a non-rushed manner. It’s perfect! You could have cut the entire thing down to a short video but you left most of the process in which is super important in being shown how to draw the rest of the damn owl! Thank you Ricky.

I love this small series so much! Really inspiring and - DUDE! - you don’t get yourself enough credit. So many small and subtle yet very powerful tools for arranging! It’s so genius and really ads up in the end! Based on this I will try focus more on subtle changes for transitions next time I arrange. Looking forward to see How you mix and master.
Take care! Thanks a lot man.

Totally agreed. There is a lot of power in these small, reductive edits - I know I will keep some of these edits in my mind when I work on my arrangement today.
There is a lot to be said for removing stuff, instead of always adding.

I really dig this. You know you don't get a lot of stuff where artists share there process.. and I feel like this very often where you can learn the most.. just by seeing how another artists work.. getting a window in there sensibilities from a process perspective.. it's great.

Absolutely love this longer form videos, not only for the soothing ASMR vibes but I feel like they give me enough time to really get into the rhythm of focusing on your voice and your process without feeling like we're cutting out just as I'm getting right into it. Wonderful video, Ricky. Can't wait to hear the track on the other side.

every time you pull a video like this “ house/techno creation “ i go to the studio and make music for hours .

That 0 trick also works really well with MIDI notes. Rather than erase a note you can toggle it on or off by selecting and pressing 0. Like when you duplicate a pattern and change it a bit, you can still keep the original notes and just mute them. Great for when you want to revert to a previous version later

dope vid, as always. Even tho i'm not making house music, i'm more about idm\ambient\synthwave stuff, i'm still learning a lot about gear, techniques, and approaches to making music in general. Thank you for such inspiring and thoughtful, rather introspective content. Super chill, uninterrupted creative process combined with dope editing and color grading.
    Peace, brother!

It was funny that when you started shifting around that arp section I was thinking, "This is like a live demo of his other video about finding rhythms in rhythms..." and then you say it, too.
I really appreciate that you let this video run as long as it did. It's engaging and informative but also nicely models/demonstrates how to take something and unfurl it beyond just a few bars. Thanks!

I'm still coming up to speed on my House music- I'm always expecting to hear that more chunky percussion with the R&B vocal sample. This track seems closer to minimal tech, I'm loving that guitar loop. Mintech is still very alive to me, there is more that can be said with it, it's great for late-night about 1 AM, NGL. Your studio looks super chill too, a great comfy workspace.

Thanks for this Ricky- it was really helpful. I can crank out decent loops all day but getting to a full song needs work for me. Also thanks for the tip that Ableton wasn't working well on Windows for you, I've been warned. I'm still pretty DAW centric, it was good to see that the DAW for your process seems to be much closer to the end of the workflow instead of being the whole workflow.

  • @johncitizen8828
    @johncitizen8828 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Nice tip with setting the EQ8 default setting to HPF at 120, but maybe a better approach is to set up defaults for both your Audio and MIDI tracks that have this EQ8 setting within them already. 😎 That way every track is already automatically going to be highpassing. (You can, of course, in your template set up a dedicated bass/sub channel that doesn’t feature this roll off.
I also like to have a Utility at the end of my default chain for each channel, which I use for any volume automation.
Small things, but all that time saved adds up. 👍

Ricky I have a question that you’re probably the most qualified person to ask! I have a circuit tracks and am thinking about selling for a circuit rhythm. I have 4 hardware synths, plus keystep pro, so I don’t use tracks to midi sequence and hardly ever use the built in synth engines. I just use it for drums, which I’m thinking Rhythm would probably be a better dedicated drum machine? Anyway, in your opinion, which do you think is “better”/more versatile? And great video by the way!
