Honestly, Chanyeol is a complete musical artist with good vocals, rapping, instruments, songwriting, composing, producing, etc. And he's shown improvement throughout his career.

For Kpop stans, whoever can hit high notes is automatically a good vocalist & whoever raps fast & agressively is a good rapper. They don't care about technicalities, skills, etc.

Chanyeol was never a bad rapper, EXO as a vocal-driven group Chanyeol's rap is what they need, plus he is a vocalist too. But some people just need to push down others so that their favs look a little more superior. I mean, yeah let them think like that if this makes them sleep well after all this is one thing their favs are good at, they may feel attacked when they see someone else is far better than what they think.

Exactly this. I was writing a comment that said something similar and saw yours and I'm just happy to find someone who gets it. :) Other groups highlight certain aspects of their group/concept because that's precisely their strength. That also applies to EXO. And that clearly has a tradeoff because those with potential don't (by intention c/o the company!) get more airtime, but it doesn't mean they're not good.
I find their raps, very rhythmic.. it might not be the fastest. Tbh i hate rap songs the only artists i loved was eminem and ed sheeran. And then boom chanyeol became my fav. I literally skips most of the rap parts in kpop songs(let's say all songs)

Yeah Chanyeol for me is a complete ARTIST and I don't say this a lot in Kpop, he always ends up surprising me and I love that he has such a genuine passion for music (composing, producing, writing...)
Exo as a group is just such a rare gem !
Im not really a fan of rap but Sechan showed me that rapping isn't always about how fast you spit words but how you understand the flow of the rap to be fit on the song.

i often see kpop stans discredit chanyeol's rapping skills and even criticize him for not being in the same "level" as other rappers in groups but i honestly believe that the way that he raps is not something that a lot of rappers in kpop can do. he blends in with the music and it's not grating in the way that it'll ruin the song. he literally gets and knows the flow of the song and integrates himself with it seamlessly. disregarding the fact that he's an SM artist - i could say that he's one of the BEST rappers of the decade.
Omg as a musician myself, I'm sooooo happy that you went off with this video about exo rap line, and not just talking about how fast they can rap, or even the style, buy about tempo, metrics etc. It's sooo good.

as a musician (percussionist to be exact), I know how hard it is to play and sing syncopated notes and I knew that their rap parts in Let me in hits the spot. it's just so nice to the ears

The vocals and the rap is so good in this song. Chanyeol is definitely an artist he loves his music and arts. It would be interesting to see him in some alternative punk band.

I saw EXO perform Let Me In at the fanmeeting and I had chills when Chanyeol started rapping, he sounded SO amazing live❤I'm so glad the studio version of the song has been released!! Chanyeol's rap, singing, and background vocals are always a major highlight of every EXO song for me🥰

We know they are great but it has always been CHANYEOL for me as an idol rapper but for versatility he’s crazy. Sehun slays too the chemistry between was off the chains.

Chanyeol is defintiely my fave rapper in kpop. I've never understood the "exo has bad raps" opinion bc theyve been slaying since debut. Baby dont cry's rap is one of my faves in all of kpop.
people always judge chanyeol on the speed of rap and all...but i think he is really top tier rapper and there is no doubt....if he can make me a rap fan(i did'nt used to enjoy rap before i got to know him,specially in different langugage) then he defi itely have talent....let's not talk about his music,singing,composing etc because i can write story about how talented artist he is
I don't get why they'd judge or undermine him for the speed though. He has plenty of fast raps, and I believe his fastest one is 8.25 sps ("Who I Am")
Besides the vocals wen Chaneyeol came in I have to pause and I was WAIT A MINUTE DID HE JUST DROP IT AND CATCH IT MID AIR…I went back and listen to it again and again and boy or boy he did it perfectly…both him and Sehun went surfing on a high tide ride it was good…

Besides from Chanyeol’s intricate lay back style in let me in, I personally love his raspy voice that brings more depth and emotion to any songgg. Here, cy & sehun complement e/o very smoothly, especially in the pre-chorus of the 2nd verse. Honestly happy that you’re acknowledging the talent ❤ EXO EXIST FIGHTING!
Thank you for speaking some truth. It's such a shame that so many insecure children want to discredit the brilliance of chanyeol and sehun and lay's rapping and lyricism. They're brilliant musicians with talent and artistic vision.
Fuck yeah.... just cause SM didn't give and did't allow exo to have that much rap in the songs, or create the songs themselves (they even tried to make Sehun ditch solo song Chanyeol produced for him in their SC album) that doesn't mean he is a bad rapper, we just need more songssss, i know that the man is OP

As exo-l and army chanyeol is a better rapper than RM for me flow wise and tie with yoongi he's so good but because he's amazing vocalist and producer and musician people tend forget he's a MAIN RAPPER AND AMAZING and they always underestimate him dude just cus exo are know as vocal kings doesn't mean they suck at other things in fact exo is the only truly all rounder group where evryone can take the other position without even the slightest difficulty i stan almost evry kpop group and exo still remain top 1 for me

Chanyeol appreciation we love to hear it! I'm a year late but this man is really talented. He plays a lot of instruments and composes his own songs too. I think from what I learned he wasn't initially going to be a rapper but since he has a deep voice and the chinese members leaving he was given the main rapper status (correct me if I'm wrong). It's more impressive knowing he wasn't planning to be a rapper at all cause he certainly became good at it through the years. I'm not really that much of a rap enjoyer and although I admire people who rap incredibly fast, I appreciate people who rap with different kinds of style. Rapping isn't only about speed and people need to realize that. I wasn't that fond of the off beat rapping in let me in at first but it definitely grew on me and made me appreciate and notice idols who rap off beat more (shoutout to jongseob from p1harmony lol I just realized this is the same account that also talked about him)
Tldr: Chanyeol is amazing and people shouldn't downplay his skills just because he's doesnt rap fast often

I hope more legit musicians can do reactiona like you do, it is soooo tiring hearing from people who doesnt even know a thing or two in music criticizing chanyeols talent, like they can't even stand a candle next to this man, chanyeols rap actually the reason why i listen to kpops rap, before i just skip the rap part of the song because other artist just spew words as fast as they could making it weird away from their music like naaaah it kills the vibe of the song, but chanyeol's seems like you're not zoning away from the song 😊 its not just who can rhyme and run words as fast as gazelle yoh!

People have a fixed perception that they're bad rappers just because EXO is vocal centric group. They weren't great in the beginning which is understandable because they don't hail from a rap background & honestly sm's rap training is not that good. Still they weren't bad either but people doesn't even consider that they can improve. Explaining like this helps to lift that stigma a lot.
Also, if possible please make a video explaining the technicalities of Sehun's part too, like you did for Chanyeol in this video

@@resurgingflame Even if SM’s rap training is good, that usually amounts to just Kpop rapping. Actual rapping requires more than that, like writing your own lyrics. Chanyeol and Sehun have definitely improved in that regard.
U said it's not good yet u're praising the idol themselves. Sure they've improved but even in earlier era, the rap is not bad at all. In what basis they're even bad? Oftentimes it's just a stereotype coming from kpop fans.
@@lucewilliams actual rapping includes the technique & the writing part. Rap trainers like in SM DON'T train their idols to write their rap. Songwriting skills are oftentimes much more difficult to train & that really depends on the idols themselves & their artistry talent. So that's out of the way. They only taught the basic technique, which they've actually done a pretty decent job. Ofc u can't expect it to be the same level as khiphop rappers, esp since most of SM's songs aren't evem hiphop.

Sidenote: Chanyeol, as the musician he's always been, ended up forming NNG with producer MQ. A creative can't be stopped if they want to create, but in his case, we'd expect his stuff not to fly as big as EXO because he's doing his own thing independently (vs doing a solo backed by an idol agency). I think it's also fine for him because maybe he'd rather have his creative freedom outside of EXO so he could do pretty cool things that not all idols can do within their 'day job'. As part of NNG, he produced music for a Prada campaign (which he also modeled for), a Basquiat exhibit (earnings for the project were used to donate entrance tickets to the show for an NGO), made soundbites for a streetwear's brand campaign, just to name a few! None of these get the same airtime of those idols who produce solo work under their idol label. And considering all this, Chanyeol's probably managed his studio as a business, too. :))
