The Viral In-n-Out Flying Dutchman Burger....Good Or Gimmick?

- I've seen this burger all over my tiktok fyp recently, so I thought I'd give it a go to see if the flying Dutchman burger is actually any good or just a gimmick. The flying Dutchman is a burger produced by a popular U.S based burger chain called in-n-out. Apparently only available on their 'secret menu' it's basically a double cheeseburger with rounds of grilled onions as the 'bun' instead of a bread bun. So let's give it a bash! and see if it's worth the hype!

To make the flying Dutchman you will need:
Makes 2 doubles
for the sauce
►5 tbsp of mayo
►About 3 tbsp of ketchup
►1/2 tsp garlic granules
►1 med sized gherkin, diced small
►1 tsp of mustard
►A little salt and pepper
for the burgers
►500g of beef mince made into 4 patties
►1 absolutely massive onion (You may have to search around, but I find the independent foreign supermarkets seem to stock huge onions. Make a day of it lol)
►6 slices of processed cheese
►Salt & pepper to taste
►1 tbsp of oil or lard

Not a burger
My fav used to be an 'Americano Burger' from my local takeaway...basically it was x2 beef patties with tons of fried onions...very unhealthy but bloody incredible😋 to be fair I love any burger! even veggie burgers😋
I like a shami kabab burger, with garlic raita and crispy onions.
I LOVE A HOME MADE LAMB AND MINT BURGER OR A CHILLI ONE.
Whichever’s in front of me, really. Happy to try variations.

Great video Adam and good to see you back on it. But I'm not convinced an onion is a great sub for a nice seedy bun!
It's a bit hit and miss. I love onions so it tastes great to me. Structurewise it's questionable. Takes some patience to get right 🤣

I personally was starting to worry that you were suffering from another attack of the dreaded "Black Dog." 😢
As for the onion "bun," just watching it being cooked and then "assembled" was enough to convince me that there's no way I could make something like that in such a way that it would be even a remote chance of being picked up and eaten like a normal burger. 😕
However, having said that, if I were to sandwich the whole thing inside a nice fresh burger bun of any description, I might be persuaded to make it, but only as a single, (i.e., not as a double), burger, mainly because I can comfortably bite through a single, but my jaw is not sufficiently "alligator-like" to be able to bite directly through a double. 😂
I'm looking forward very much to your next TH-cam video, (I'm not on Tik Tok), and I'm hoping desperately that my wait will be much shorter than it has been recently! 🙏🏻

my sort of grub that Adam, I make a similar thing and wrap it in puff pastry, and bake it in the oven a burger wellington, its fab please try it.

Enjoyed the vid. That burger is on their secret menu. Seems like all the griddle TH-camrs are making this. Put a toasted bun around and I’d eat it. Wrap it in lettuce if you want low carb. Here’s a thought for an upcoming vid. Chop it up and make it a burrito. Always enjoy your subtle humor. Cheers from across the pond!
That's a good idea actually! Also the lettuce would encase the whole burger making it much easier to handle

Yeah almost a Keto burger with a few adjustments.
I think it would be better with a slice of Mobby Dick pickle and Siren sauce.
With the monica 'Flying Dutchman', it's name alone would sell the gimmick.

My favourite burger has large burger, a large steak mushroom with the big onion ring like the one you did and plastic cheese of course. Prefer it on a good bread cake ( not too sure about them French things or them with seeds on em either. Also got to have mustard some where on it or in the sauce. Please do more content. I love your channel.
Looks like an opportunity for a posh 'eat with knife and fork' burger. Lots of current trends make them so thick that I can't pick them up and bite through anyway. Sorted Food tried it on 4th March - I think the summary was 'very tasty, would be better with a nice bun'. Those did look good - and the sauce.

Totally agree with your view on the price of Heinz products. Plenty of equally good alternative brands available at a much lower price.

I used to buy Heinz ketchup, but for some reason, I ended up with Morrisons.
Never bought Heinz since, forget about the MASSIVE price difference, I prefer the taste of Morrisons.
P.S. I prefer J Sainsbury baked beans in the blue tins to Heinz.
Long gone are the days when you used to get a pack of three small tins of Heinz baked beans in the pound shops!
Unfortunately, I haven't yet found a satisfactory alternative to HP sauce.
Hp is the 🐐 I do like M&S ketchup. Last I checked it was only 90p as well

It's probably a fun thing to do for the experience and it tastes great. Someone else suggested wrapping the whole thing in lettuce, as that would make it more stable. But yes...tasty but messy 🤣

Beef patty,cheese,onion, crispy smoked streaky bacon, cheese, pork patty, all wrapped in crispy lettuce with sauce on the side to dip.... Darn it im hungry now ! I think the idea of it is for those wanting to cut down on bread. But someone mentioned wrapping the whole thing in lettuce as well so it's more stable
@Adam_Garratt i was joking about the bun if you hadn't guessed, but lettuce sounds a great idea.
Perhaps replace the dressing with kimchi or that red bean paste to give even more of a Korean vibe.
Although you might need to go a little smaller since their lettuce wraps are usually taken in a single mouthful!

I have never heard of a 'Flying Dutchman Burger, mind you I lead a sheltered life. But there is NO WAY I (will or shall?) make this. There was an old geezer worked as a Pump House Attendant years ago, when I was an Apprentice who ate Onions like you would an Apple. This was at a time when I was so-so about onions. Still seems weird.

a. I DETEST messy burgers, that's why I LOVE McDonalds - never fall apart, can eat with one hand even while driving.
b. Australia does not have onions that big. Gonna have to do sliders, which is another pet hate of mine!
c. Glad you made a sauce, cos smash burgers (another ridiculous woke fad) are utterly boring and revolting.
