- Today I fix the worn out water pump on the 1972 TVR 2500M and while I am there I do an oil change as well. I also show a little bit of the accusump and dual oil filter setup that has been added to the car.

Nice video. That pump's been leaking for years. Everything near it had 'rusty water' marks. I had a TVR 280S once, it was a hoot. Hanging on to my Tigger still- 34 years now!

Back in the day I knew a few guys with the V6 Tamar, amazing cars if a touch "fragile", that 2500 is a real beauty and in very good hands it appears
There was a TVR wedge abandoned in front of a bar I use to go to. Not knowing much about cars, I had written it off as a kit car from the 70s.
Wish I would have inquired more about that car.
@@quintessenceSL Having helped out on fixing some of my friends TVRs the notion of them being kit cars wasn't too far from the truth. As was said in Top Gear once they were kits in reverse, you buy them as complete cars and they gradually revert to kit form the longer you drive them. Every TVR Owner seemed to have a parts list detailing where all the bits on their car came from
I thought I recognised a Triumph water pump and engine. The paint on the body looks amazing and I assume it was painted and kept indoors since it was painted. What a lovely car. I always liked the TVR early models.
yeah, thought the same. Looks like my TR6 motor. I only have two webers tho 🙄
@@boldorboy08 Yes, I checked, it seems it is the TR6 engine. I only recognised the water pump as I currently have restored a Midget which has the Triumph 1500 engine.

back in 92 one of my friends found one of these in a barn on a property his parents had just bought on the outskirts of edinburgh . took 3 years to get it legal and roadworthy but he still dailys it now

Always loved the Straight Six Triumph lump .
There was also the 2.5 PI , a 132 bhp fuel injected version fitted to their high end Triumph saloon car and the TR6 sports car .
That water pump was without doubt toast! Amazing it didn't leak more than it did. I do like the accusump setup and that oil filter removal tool is really handy. I was thinking 'how is he going to get those out?' You gave me the answer. Thanks Steve for another interesting video. 👍👍

My friend had a couple '65' TVRs. One was red which he converted to Boss 302 engine with competition Ford top loader transmission. It was to source of many, many tales: some fun, some woe.
The 2500M is the "federalized" version of the 3000M & Taimar (Triumph S6 instead of Ford Essex V6). TVR made a small number of 1600M cars too, using the Ford Kent S4.
They tried to make a catalytic system for the 3000M to sell them in the US but they were stopped at the port and sent to Germany. I have an Essex V6 powdered Marcos.
Had the same problem with the waterpump on my 74 TVR 2500M. The replaced new water pump only lasted 1,5 years due to very poor built quality of the new parts available.. I switched to a racesport alloy water pump which is much lighter and haas an improved fan so uch more pumping power as well as long lasting bearings... It was not cheap but worth the upgrade especially since the TR6 engine tends to overheat easily...
Had no idea they used rectangle tubing on the later TVRs and that six in there looks odd to me I'm used to seeing a 289 in there I used to restore Griffiths keep up the good work.

Love your content! Wix filters are the only filters I use. Really love your eclectic (though UK heavy) car collection. I'm jealous of your Tigers... I could only afford an Alpine. My handle was my CA plate (1 hot Alpine).
By far one of the most overlooked, underrated British cars ever manufactured were no 2 ever had the exact same parts……. LoL. God I use to be so head over heels for the little stinkers. They eat autocross tracks for lunch.

Love that car! Some interesting setups in there, too. Was expecting you to round-over one of those old water pump nuts but you have better luck (and technique) than me. Would love to have heard the "before" and "after" comparison of the old and new water pumps.

I did wonder about using an open bender on old rusty nuts. Maybe it was through lack of space to get i ring on it?

Looks like you could fit a slightly longer fan belt. Would be easier to install and give better wrap on the alternator pulley

TVR made interesting sports cars.
The genius in that design is not the pump which is great but in housing for the pump. For it they design it differently the pump may have been more difficult to deal with. Just a thought. Keep on cruz,n .

The cars came originally with stock TR6 2.5 @ 104 hp which in my 73 TR6 is not exactly performance, could you go into more detail about what kind improvements were done to this engine to help improve it? Thanks

Only time I ever saw one of these in the wilds was at a local Porsche-Audi dealership way back in the mid 1970's. I only remember it being a TVR with a straight six; not sure if it had this nose on it or not, as this nose doesn't look familiar.

If you look at 4:10, is your carburetor seated properly against the intake manifold?

Wix! The only filters anyone should use. Is there an advantage to using the racing filters vs the regular ones for street use?
The racing filters have better flow and do not filter as small as standard filters but in this car the extra flow is good because it is going through two filters.
The TVR is a remarkably handsome little machine. It's changed surprisingly little since the original design in the 1950s, when it was astonishingly advanced. What is that motor?
The engine is the same as a Triumph TR6

This car sounds wonderful! Most older cars use 20W50 oil, but it has become scarce because modern cars use other grades, like 10W40. What grade of oil do you use for your old cars? I still use 20W50 for my 1989 Toyota Corolla and 2003 Tazz. Thanks for your Vids!
Castrol 20w50 is what I put in this one.

Where are you getting these parts from?

Check your carburetor flange on the front. It looks like it has a gap in it.
Why not make things easier snd remove the spare wheel ?Do you pre fill the oil filters ?
The spare wheel isn't in the way of anything.

AutoX it!! You never changed the filler hose fittings. Lol!!
So that's a Triumph engine, dry-sumped and with triple carbies?
Not dry sump (note the oil pan), but the accusump guarantees oil pressure when cornering hard in racing. Sometimes this can slosh the oil away from the oil pickup in the sump and cause it to draw air which is bad.
does that have a cam or do the carbs need adjusting?
The car has a cam, I built this car, Unfortunately the now owner is clueless as to what he has.
Looks like the carbs are loose on the intake too!
Weber DCOE carburettors should not be bolted solid. They are mounted with either spring type Thackery washers or rubber bobbins. These carbs need to be insulated from vibration to prevent fuel frothing and needle valve issues. Hope this helps.
Why two oil filters?
Just mystified as to how you filmed it when driving at the end?
You can see the shadow of him holding a selfie-stick with end-mounted camera... the trick is to have "360 camera" NOT directly pointing at you and it makes the selfie stick invisible...but in this case the shadow gives the trick away.

Yes, but would require modifying the stock cooling system plumbing to install. More complex than the mechanical pump also.

Looks like your carb could be tightened.
The water pump failed because the belt had its balls squeezed too tight.
Those old British cars are just as cool as Ferraris they just didn't have as cool of engines.
