Great looking “Trevor!” I got to tour the factory in Blackpool about 20 years ago, when they were building Tuscans, Griffiths, and Chimaeras. Many fond memories there!

Of all the cars I have had in my life I wish I had my 72 2500m back. It was the most exciting car I ever drove. It should be on the short list of the most beautiful cars ever made as well.

Great to see you working on the TVRs in the US. I have the younger TVR Chimaera here in the UK and these TVRs are so much fun to drive. Light and gutsy!
Please keep the videos coming on these older TVRs as there are not so many videos on them.

Hey Steve. I've just come across this little gem you filmed a year ago. I've hear of and seen TVRs on the likes of Top Gear, but I was not aware of their history prior to 1988......until now! After watching this video, I HAD to look up and read all I could find about them, because I thought the sound of that engine was such a beautiful noise and reminded me quite a lot of my Triumph 2500S saloon.....or more precisely, because it sounded like it had a mild cam in it, a TR5 or 6. Sure enough - this little 2500M is pretty much an amalgamation of Dagenham and Coventry, with parts coming from the bins of both Ford and Triumph, with Lucas providing the wiring, although TVR had their own bespoke engineering involved in areas as well as the shell. My hearing had indeed Triumphed..... (groan!)
It was love at first sight for me and I was totally intoxicated by its sound, its lines and its stance. Sadly, I believe they are out of my price range and there are no early TVRs in New Zealand showing up in my searches, but I live in hope. I see a couple of other videos in your library about your collection, so I am about to watch them and salivate a little. They are a beautiful car and I'd love to know how they drive. If you have any other footage that includes time on the track or road, would you please put some up for us to watch? Many thanks for introducing to me another vehicle I wasn't aware of and that I can add to the ever-growing list of vehicles I will own when I win a lottery!

That sure looks like a TVR I had in the mid 80's! Same color and interior. I made a spacer to bring the steering wheel back toward the driver and moved the gas pedal toward the front of the car also. The original control layout was horrible with the shift lever at your elbow, the steering wheel too far forward and the gas pedal way too close. Once those things were fixed the car was a blast to drive! I have to admit that I was afraid of the reliability of the car since it was my first British car but it turned out to be the most reliable car I ever had. Everything electrical always worked! Makes me wonder if this is my car ... I sold it in '87 I think and the new owner took it to northern California or Oregon somewhere. It didn't have the Webers or Accusump. Fifteen years later it reappeared in my home town on it's way to Los Angeles and I saw it purely by accident when it was parked by my office for just three hours that day.

The bracket on the Lucas alternator looks like the one I used to wrestle with on my Alpine. I must have bought 10 of those over the few years I had my Alpine, back in the late sixties. They regularly broke until I figured that the lower bolt on the Alternator wasn’t properly tightened. Back then there were junkyards with Alpines in them. I bet you’d be hard pressed to find an Alpine in a junkyard.

@@ThisWeekWithCars you work on essentially esoteric vehicles to the average US car enthusiast. While I am sure you have a reach beyond America with your YT channel, and those that follow you have passing knowledge of the mostly British cars you work on, a run down of what the car is, specific model info and known history could make your content even more interesting.

They made a 3000M also, I think with a Ford V6 as in the Ford Granada, my next door neighbours son had one in the late 70's, I was about 15yrs old. Fibreglass body from memory, his dad had a Lotus Eclat, happy days, BTW the 3000M was really light and could shift, so this 2500M should be nifty too! They used to say TVR stands for Trouble Very Regularly and Lotus for Lots Of Trouble Usually Serious so I hope yours is reliable :) Im English and live about 130 miles from Blackpool where TVR were made

Driving style and accessory usage both effect best alternator pulley size. If you like to stay in low gears and rev your engine, and don't use much electricity while driving, then you can use a much bigger pulley than if you use lots of gadgets while cruising around in high gear.

Especially when you have an immediate drain on it as you did. Was unable to see just how much Teflon tape you put on in the high speed part. Don't forget the sender unit must make contact with the head to work.
