From his time at Juilliard, to working with Leonard Bernstein, to his grand success on Broadway, follow the path of Stephen Schwartz, the composer/lyricist of such legendary works as Godspell, Pippin, and his Broadway hit, Wicked. This live conversation and performance at The Kennedy Center from 2005 was moderated by Michael Kerker, ASCAP Director of Musical Theater and produced by the Education Division of The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

I am interested in Stephen Schwartz's career, as he appears so youthful but he's been writing and working since the 60's. I do believe he deserves an outright concert tribute....that we can actually see, as they have done for everyone else, from Burt Bacharach to Stephen Sondheim...all deservedly. Schwartz deserves one too. Not just a blip like the above, with Schwartz singing his own songs, and indeed, very few of them and interviews by someone who could put the dead to sleep and actually, though I don't understand why, made me feel uncomfortable. Schwartz deserves better....from "Godspell" to everything else...he deserves a Kennedy Center Honor, at least and an outright and joyous celebration of his music.
