Obviously our Egonu is still not well. She was not well when they arrived in Brazil. She had short time in practice and let her rest during practice. Italy let her play against Serbia for conditioning but she still in her bad form. Her leap, her spike are not the usual. Mazzanti let Nwakalor play even though she is having hard time penetrating the Dom Rep's defence and chose to combined different players instead. Hopefully she will be okay in their upcoming matches esp against Brazil.

Paola l ho vista totalmente fuori fase non so se per stanchezza o perché non ha avuto modo ancora di "prendere le misure" visto che ha giocato Nwakalor, alcune in rice un disastro se non ci fosse moki saremmo perdute. E poi dove sono Miryam, Elena,ecc... non è ora di giocare il poker d'assi?
Ok le ragazze che hanno giocato fino ad ora sono state brave ma nei match importanti BISOGNA tirar fuori le palle e se vedi che non va,cambia, sostituisci.
Comunque.per fortuna l'abbiamo portata a casa.
Mi sento in colpa a parlare così delle ragazze che hanno giocato in questi giorni perché alcune sono davvero pazzesche,ma altre...non faccio.nomi...un disastro.

Italy played really bad but somehow managed to win. Mazzanti should have sub in Egonu earlier or at least in the second set to have a chance to win 3-0. Or if he wanted to make her rest, at least sub her in for a service turn. So many questionable choices by Mazzanti. Also he should have bring Bosio in earlier. She did better than Malinov (but I guess she doesn't have connection with Egonu yet). So bad Anna Danesi was not at 100% physically, Italy definitely need her against Brazil. First time I see De Gennaro "struggling", I think she was a little bit tired towards the end of the game. That woman is there cleaning up all the mess and didn't have much rest after the club season (even if it was her decision). Italy lost a precious point but congrats to the Dominican team, they really put up a fight.

Dominican Republic has serious potential. I think they are weak when they are out of system. A lot of easy tips and free balls over the net. If they improve their serve receives and out if system sets/spikes, they'll be a force to be reckoned with!

Well, to be fair, Italy is missing players like Sylla, Pietrini and Folie. Despite that situation, Dominican Republic played really well. You can’t underestimate them or the 5th set will show up for sure! 😆
truth is, Italy never or did not underestimate Dom Rep. it is so happen that Egonu is not in a good form..Egonu is not well even when they just arrived in Brazil. Nwakalor made a lot of mistakes and having hard time penetrating the defence of Dom Rep but Mazzanti is patient enough to still let her play and made a lot of player combinations instead.
Well, to be fair, DR is also missing players like Castillo and De La Cruz and they aren't crying about it 🤷🏻♂️

I am not even saying that Pietrini (one of the main attackers) and Orro (main setter) are not playing.
Also Dela Cruz is not as effective as Pena now..Castillo is better than their current Libero but am not seeing any difference.
To be unbiased, one has to consider that the absences of Brenda Castillo (considered by most one of the very best liberos in the world) and Bethania De la Cruz, also one of the world's best players, weakened the Dominican team. These are Dominican Republic's two best players. I guess you don't know them.

La verità è che possono dare molto di più e l'hanno dimostrato nelle partite precedenti mentre ieri sono state una cosa veramente penosa e hanno rischiato di perdere contro una squadra contro la quale, se guardiamo i roster, avrebbero dovuto prendersi un 3-0 senza alcun problema

A very very disappointing performance by ITALY who seems to be going thru a quite low run on energy.....Egonu ?.she seems to be suffering from something because she was lost for most parts of the match, also the Italian defense was just horrible..I mean why would you bring your A squad, I repeat, your A-Team....and you just don't use it?? instead you keep experimenting with all those changes??.... Granted DR played a bit better than the first week of this VNL..and J.Martinez was on board for more time than usual...still, 5 long sets against this weak and slow Dominican team??... This match was supposed to be an easy 3-0 or a 3-1 at least........For all that cheap talk about the Italian league ".As the best in the world ..." and all that buzz about THIS Italian team........It seems to me that Italy has a lot to prove if they want to get in shape for the WC and for PARIS 2024...so far is not working...
You are talking about the european champions... this are the first matches that they are playing together after more than 8 months and after a very hard club season! Give them a break

Definitely rushed judgements for just one match. Egonu played less than one set and some of these players (like Guerra for example, who I agree is not a good OH) would'nt even make it to bench of the NT in an important tournament. Full team A will probably be used for tougher matches, they just thought it wasn't necessary for Dominican Republic (and for the most part they were right, except that Dominican girls put up a good fight in the end).
You are right in some points, but Egonu is not suffering from anything! Its Mazzanti horrible decisions,
I think they need more practice and to play together more to re-gain the confidence as a team and the trust with each other. Italy definitely hasn't played its best game and they couldn't keep up their usually fast play. They suffered the Dominican slow game and slower themself too.
