  • Take a 2-minute high definition tour of Muir Woods National Monument. Muir Woods is part of Golden Gate National Recreation Area on California's rugged Northern Coast within an hour of San Francisco. Home to California's coast redwoods, the tallest trees on the planet, this sanctuary of old growth redwoods was set aside by President Theodore Roosevelt 100 years ago. "This is the best tree-lovers monument that could possibly be found in all the forests of the world," declared conservationist John Muir when describing the majestic coast redwoods of Muir Woods.
    Muir Woods is also home to Banana Slugs, North Americas largest land mollusk.

    They don't tell you how wonderfully clean and refreshing the air is over there. You get in the car in San Fransisco, drive about 30-40 minutes to get to the woods entrance, open the door and you're met with that fresh mountain/forest air. It's honestly invigorating; You have to walk uphill a lot, but I barely got tired because it felt like there was so much oxygen up there.
    Also, if you get deep into the woods, at some point notice how completely silent it becomes when you stop talking and just stand still. Beautiful, my favorite part of San Fransisco by far.

      Oh for sure...the trail is just straight walking and it 2 miles total. Many parents bring toddlers and infants since its just a easy flat trail on a boardwalk. Not sure which trail Frank is referring to but its def not the main loop.

    Listening to Ranger Jordan's comments about what he feels among the trees, I think how important it is for people to experience transcendence. Overall, we are all too much in our heads, so when we step back into Nature there is a major shift of awareness -- a change that feeds our souls the nourishment that is missing in urban environments with all their consumerist distractions. (Let's KEEP NATURAL AREAS as Natural as Possible)

    The most memorable time we had on our California coast trip was our visit to Muir Woods. What a majestic place of peace and nature. Truly a national treasure.

    Stunningly beautiful! I've lived on the west coast my whole life and never knew it existed until after I saw POTA, I was so stunned I had to google it to see if it was real! Not only have I discovered this place, but John Muir himself, who has quickly become among my favorite authors! Thank you for the upload! I plan to visit and hit the trails in with my dog in July. Do you have a good quality video of John Muir Trail by chance? I'd like to start planning it today!

    Regarding the previous comment that the video needs more big trees, I suspect park rules, particularly for photography, might limit getting people next to trunks more often for size and scale. Some of my favorite video clips are where a mounted camera moves replicating walking around a redwood trunk. I'm planning m first video this year in the Humboldt and Del Norte redwoods, but I realize that park rules may put some constraints on the final project. But there will be tons of trunk and canopy views. Nice treat for San Francisco that they can have a decent size park so close.

    Be careful from these red wood trees. My son was pinned by these red wood trees on 24/12/2019. While they were traveling a big tree fall on him causing which death occured. And made me an unfortunate father

    Bugs, park ranger, where are the trees. Most beautiful place on earth but not so judging from this video. Doesn't accept downthumbs.

    • @finleyholiday
      @finleyholiday  9 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Sorry, Bob. These trees are so tall, vertical and incredibly big, they are very difficult to film in a horizontal widescreen format. We thought about filming sideways, but you'd have to stand your TV on end to watch it. We had lots of footage of pans up the trees and views looking straight up, but it would quickly get boring to watch. You're right - there's no comparison to actually being there.
