Nestled in the picturesque Marin County of California, Muir Woods National Monument is a sanctuary of ancient giant redwoods and rich biodiversity. Hikers from around the world are drawn to its tranquil trails, each offering a unique experience. Here, we explore the three best hikes - the Main Trail, the Canopy View Trail, and the Bootjack Loop Trail - that promise an unforgettable adventure.
*1. The Main Trail: A Gateway to Redwood Giants*
The Main Trail in Muir Woods is a must-do hike for first-time visitors and seasoned explorers alike. It's a relatively flat, easy hike that runs alongside Redwood Creek, offering a chance to witness the awe-inspiring grandeur of the redwoods, some of the tallest trees on Earth.
*Tip*: This trail is wheelchair accessible, making it perfect for families and those with mobility concerns. As you meander through the forest, keep your eyes peeled for the interpretive displays that provide insights into the ecology of the redwoods.
*2. The Canopy View Trail: A Stairway to Heavenly Views*
For those looking for a moderate challenge, the Canopy View Trail is a splendid choice. Ascend through a series of switchbacks, and you'll find yourself at an elevation that offers a different perspective of the forest - from above. This trail is less trafficked, providing a serene experience amidst nature's splendor.
*3. The Bootjack Loop Trail: A Trek for the Tenacious*
The Bootjack Loop Trail is an exhilarating hike for those who crave a more strenuous adventure. This trail dives deeper into the woods and presents more challenging terrain, complete with steep inclines and rocky paths. It's a loop that combines portions of other trails, including the Stapelveldt and Ben Johnson trails, making for a varied and engaging hike.
*Tip*: This trail is ideal for experienced hikers looking to escape the crowds and immerse themselves in the solitude of the woods. The vistas along the way, including waterfalls and panoramic views, are a rewarding treat for the effort.
Muir Woods National Monument's trails offer something for everyone, from tranquil walks among the redwoods to challenging hikes with rewarding views. Whether you're looking to contemplate the ancient majesty of the forest on the Main Trail, gaze upon the treetops on the Canopy View Trail, or test your limits on the Bootjack Loop Trail, Muir Woods promises an experience that resonates with the soul of every hiker.
Plan your visit to Muir Woods National Monument today, and embark on a hiking journey that you will cherish for a lifetime. Remember to respect the trails and leave no trace to preserve the beauty of this national treasure for generations to come.

Nice to see you up in my area! I actually only go past Muir Woods when I'm running on the Dipsea Trail, which would make a great video! The oldest trail race in the US is on the Dipsea!

I used to do Muir Beach to Tennessee Cove and back, but didn't care much for the stretch between Tennessee Cove and Rodeo Beach. Also, the Dipsey Trail from Muir Woods area to Stinson Beach and back.

Interesting and informative video of the California Redwoods. I guess different trees are famous for different reasons. The Redwoods are the tallest, the Giant Sequoias have the greatest volume due to their width, and the Ancient Bristlecone Pines like those on White Mountain in the Eastern Sierras are the oldest.

I'm thinking of setting up basecamp nearby at either Bootjack or Pantoll campgrounds for a night or two and hitting these trails one day and maybe Mt. Tam the other.

Thanks. You can add some miles and also enjoy the Steep Ravine Trail near Stinson Beach which is spectacular The trail head is right off the Panoramic Highway just before the Panoramic Highway intersects with HW 1 at Stinson Beach and includes a mile on the Dip Sea Trail - it's an ~ 11 mile loop. I tried to paste in a gpx file but it wouldn't work for some reason.

Great video! Have you been to Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park near Crescent City. In the park they have the Grove of Titans with huge Redwoods. We spent 4 hours there one morning in April and never had seen redwoods before. Unbelievable.

That park is incredible. I spent some time there years ago on a roadtrip up the coast. Hoping to get more NorCal bucket-list hikes in this winter.

Nice. Boy this place is busy. I went to Stout Grove too. Impossible to drive when busy. I avoid SFran completely. I25 Denver Front Range. Provo to Ogden nightmare I15. Portland to Seattle.
I actually like LA area. There to San Diego forget it. Never again.
Central Valley done forever. I go down Klamath to Reno.
I don't go below I40 either. Pretty much stick around the Great Basin and Wyoming Utah now.
Love Nascimento Road via James Dean Junction.
Comes out below Ragged Point and above Cambria.
There to Carmel is awesome. Up coast.
    Cambria to Carmel.
Oregon Florence to Yachats. Not a big fan of Washington coast. Or Olympic.
