A Typical Workday at a Japanese construction blue-collar clothing aka workwear speciality shop, MANNEN-YA, in Tokyo’s Shinjuku area and I’m going take you inside of this small Japanese business to show you how they run their shop, earn an honest living and sell their goods. Established in 1969, the shop has been a trusted destination for local construction workers for many years. Now run by the founder’s daughter, the shop continues to be a trusted retailer for the hard working community. In recent years, workwear in Japan has seen tremendous growth, with a wide variety of styles, colors, and variations in both clothing and accessories. Many major clothing and even tool brands have recognized the industry's potential for profit. This growth can largely be attributed to the fact that workers in Japan's construction industry, many of whom are sole proprietors, are not restricted to basic company uniforms but have the freedom to dress in their own style, as long as they meet safety regulations.

OMGosh where has this been my husband's 30 years as a roofer??? Here it's so hard to find clothing dedicated just for the trades. Not to mention I would love to have seen him look a little more pulled together for work. Thanks Paulo for showcasing another small business owner serving the community!

@@kompila Kind of depends upon the import cost and what the minimum price would need to be just to cover Cost of Goods Sold + overhead. There are a few trades/vocational stores around here, but it's nothing like what's shown in this video. America tends to suck quite hard when it comes to vocational/trade wear and safety.

I do like that she was given the option of continuing on the legacy of the shop. Her parents didn't seem to expect it or have the stigma that because she's a daughter she cant/shouldn't.
Love to see she has brought in new ideas and passions to her family store.

Very cool to watch! I used to work in home mortgage/lending before going into customer support for a safety gear company that designs and sells similar products! I can relate to the owner and her husband, as it took a lot to start from the ground up in a completely different industry. I've been with this company 2 years now and it's been great! I never thought I'd learn so much about work place safety, tool drop protection, hi-vis clothing and so much more!

That's very cool! I spent the first decade of my working career in manufacturing, and I still love watching how things are made. In Australia, blue collar work uniforms are very generic and usually consist of some form of hi-vis, safety boots and in some places, helmets and safety glasses. Those vests with fans would be a godsend in Australia for tradies!

I mentioned it last time, but will give reasons this time: If you create subtitles, to make them 100% perfect, even if they are japanese, they should be also on when the person is speaking japanese: Japanese "readers" might be deaf, and rely on the subtitles, and secondly, those subtitles are used by youtube to autogenerate subtitles into other languages that aren't English, for people that don't speak/understand English. "Hard" English subtitles are useless in these two cases. That being said.. I Love your videos!

If they could do an English language option on their web site and offer international shipping they could sell a TON of work shoes. They may not realize that the sports brand safety shoes are not widely available outside Japan. That's one thing I always buy when visiting Japan, the range of styles form Asics, Adidas, Puma, etc is absolutely massive. I'm lucky my foot size is just on the limit for the "normal" shoe size stocked by stores but doing online sales they could access and supply larger sizes from their suppliers without holding floor stock.

Might sound silly but I didn't even know that clothing stores for construction workers existed! Thanks for the educational video!

Another great video, you should do one on employees at a hobby shop (model kits, model trains) would be interesting.

Love this series so much PAOLO!!! Construction is a massive industry so they definitely shouldnt have any shortage of business opportunities. Looks like theyre doing well for themselves and hope they continue that success. That was such an interesting business to learn about!
Cant wait to see even more different types of working situations. Even outside of tokyo??? Like a ryokan room attendant or a campground facility manager and also a small town tourist information center employee. Every small town ive visited in japan has one of those tourist centers and they do so many things. Id love to learn more about what they do!
