They Drive by Night is a Madison-based pop/rock group of four seasoned rock and roll musicians who play a mix of the '60s pop/psychedelic genre along with some original material.
The set list often includes bands and artists like the Beatles, Dave Clark Five, The Zombies, The Monkees, Deep Purple, Simon & Garfunkel, Joni Mitchell, Badfinger, and some one-hit wonders like The Tee Set, Strawberry Alarm Clock, Shocking Blue and Edison Lighthouse.
They Drive by Night covers "Build Me Up Buttercup", a song released by The Foundations in 1968 with Colin Young singing lead vocals. Young had replaced Clem Curtis in 1968, and this was the first Foundations hit on which he sang.
It hit number one on the Cash Box Top 100 and number three on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 in early 1969. It was quickly certified gold by the RIAA for sales of over a million US copies.
