Thank you. I don't know why, but most people miss this. Sigourney Weaver nailed this scene in particular. You can tell Ripley just wants to get out of there. They really did come to a "mother to mother" understanding, which is why she was slowly backing up. This scene is also there to show you that the xenomorphs aren't 'just animals.' William Manchester, one of the great American historians, served with the First Marine Division in WWll. When he was in old age, for some reason, he started having his war nightmares again. Nothing stopped them. So he decided the only way to get rid of that awful darkness was to go back and visit every island in the Pacific he fought on. One night, when his island guides had taken him to an area he was sure he’d dug a foxhole in back in 1942, he dug a foxhole again as an old man and got in it to sleep. He woke up in the middle of the night and couldn’t remember if he was an old man revisiting his trauma, or a young Marine dreaming he was old and survived. The book was titled “Goodbye Darkness” and is one of the best WWll memoirs I’ve ever read.

The Nostromo was detoured to the planet in the first movie because of an obscure clause in their contract with Weyland Yutani. The crew were essentially interstellar long-haul truckers BUT...the corporation put it in their contract that they could be diverted to investigate signs of life/civilizations should a signal be intercepted. It was an obscure clause but obviously important to the soulless bastards at Weyland Yutani since they deemed the crew expendable in such cases. They had no training in such things but they had to do as WY told them in order to earn their paycheck.
I think the idea of being diverted calls back to certain maritime rules (I think...) which are common in science fiction that has space travel. Essentially, you are obligated by international/intergalactic law to investigate any distress signal because you may be the only ship capable of helping-the ocean/space is massive and very difficult to navigate. Weyland-Yutani obviously also had ulterior motives, because they’re the bad guys, but the basic concept it’s based on isn’t inherently rooted in corporate greed. It’s something the company can easily use as an excuse in the situation, but has legitimate and necessary applications.
@Pixelologist Actually, Courtney is right. The "obscure clause" is based on _real-world_ maritime law. Under maritime law and tradition, ships have a _legal_ and _moral_ obligation to help distressed seafarers. In a recent incident, a Princess Cruise ship failed to help three fishermen, and two of the fishermen died as a result. The captain is now serving prison time for failing to respond, and the Princess Cruise line was forced to pay fines. The Nostromo was morally and legally _required_ by law to respond to the "distress call". Where Weyland-Yutani comes into the picture is that they _knew_ it was some sort of warning beacon, not a distress call.
We had some damn good movies back in the 80's. That was the era I grew up (I'm 44). I'm really glad that it's became a trend for the younger generation to go back and watch these films. Been enjoying your reaction videos.
Coincidentally, the loader that Ripley used was a full-scale costume built around stuntman John Lees, who was concealed inside, immediately behind Sigourney Weaver. It weighed around 600 lbs and included hidden counterweights to help balance it, and _still_ had to be either suspended from wires (concealed within the radio antennae on the suit's shoulders) or mounted on a counterbalanced crane for filming. It featured electrically operated claws; the various hydraulic systems were cosmetic only. It was supposed to be four-legged (and in the novelization, it is) but James Cameron was worried that it would look too similar to the AT-AT from Star Wars, so it was redesigned to be bipedal. In 2018, Hacksmith Industries built a real, _working_ power loader, but it uses a tracked chassis instead of legs. This is for safety reasons, as legs are too unstable and "fail dangerously," which could injure or kill the operator if the hydraulics lose pressure or if it simply loses its balance.
I remember reading not long after the movie came out that the loader was just an actual piece of working tech, jazzed up a little to look SF-ey. But I've also read for years that bipedal robots remain a pipe dream so far, so always wondered about that tidbit about Ripley's loader. Thanks for the info!

Both Alien and Aliens are masterpieces that are an epitome of different kinds of styles, between the Hunted Horror, and the Action Disaster. For sure, these were the best of the films of the series.
I really hope you react to the other Alien movies! Love that you've watched the first and second one so far. Side note, I love the director's cut for the second movie because it explains why Ripley was so attached to Newt.
The attack on their base was a clear sign of high intelligence. - Cut the power just before the attack to create confusion. - Attack simultaneously from two directions. - Cover the exits. - Quickly adapt attack vector when the pray flee through the air ducts. - Attack again from several directions. - Move in front and cut off escape routes.
It's debatable if they actually knew to cut the power or if that was just a bonus caused by them damaging the power lines as they made their way towards them, but I will certainly agree on all the other points. The Aliens are a lot more intelligent than they appear and certainly know how to use frighteningly advanced tactics, made even worse by the fact that they don't value their individual lives. Only the survival of the Hive matters.
Dude Hudson was friggin amazing! One of the most memorable and best characters in the Alien franchise. He went out like a warrior also! Hicks though....Hicks is hands down the BEST character in the entire franchise!!!! Semper Fi Cpl. hicks!!!
“I guess she didn’t like the cornbread either” and “What the hell are we supposed to use man, harsh language?”. The two most underrated lines in the movie.
When the aliens are crawling in the ceiling, it wasn't a jump scare which was actually better. It was more like opening a cabinet and seeing several roaches, but they are also hostile towards you. It was a special creepy fear for me.
I read the scene where Ripley opens up on the egg room differently to what some people seem to. I think the Queen betrayed her first, because facehugger eggs started opening up to infect her and Newt. Ripley's facial expression suggests (to me) that she knows she is being betrayed and has no choice other than to fight. Because a facehugger will run you down.
Vazquez is hot. She's also responsible for the eponymous Vasquez Dies trope. She's also not John Connor's mom, Todd. Funny fact was the illegal aliens joke was in reference to Jenette Goldstein thinking the movie was about migrant workers when she auditioned for the role of Vasquez.
This was the ONLY movie I ever saw in the cinema as a teenager, or frankly since, where the crowd literally stands up, clapped and cheered at the door going up and Ripley being in the loader. Everyone was so elated. I’d never seen anything like it as a 14 year old and it has always been, and always will be, my favourite film.

Totally agree. I wish movies today would make the effort to do more practical effects. CGI could be used sparingly & I think it would probably look better in many situations.
I say this in all the reactions to Aliens - David Giler, one of the producers of these movies said the first movie was the haunted house, and this one was the roller coaster.
The knife game is pretty much as old as knives. There are some patterns that are considerably harder, but the one Bishop does isn't easy mode either. Pretty sure at least like half a dozen kids (all boys, shocker) from my year at school had one or two scars on theit hands/fingers from doing it with a pen or compasses.
Bill Paxton, who played Hudson, passed in 2017. He had rheumatic fever when he was 13 and his heart had been damaged. He had surgery and had to have a further surgery. His health got worse and he suffered a fatal stroke.
What I like about james cameron's vision for aliens, is that he expanded on the nature of the xenomorphs. When a xenomorph is alone, it behaves like a lone wolf in the wild, but when they are in a pack (or hive) they behave differently. It is very 'believe-able', and expands the story of the Aliens themselves.
And on that note, Alien prequels Prometheus and Alien Covenant, are also great picks. Solid movies that add to the lore and have some fascinating stuff in them
Bra,I envy you soooo much, watching this film for tha first time!!! Your reactions were GREAT!!! I too loved Newt and her bond with Ripley. The catch-phrases in this movie were dope too.You have a new sub, bub, keep tha vids coming!!!! LOL!!!
"These things just won't give up." & "This was too much." Accurate statements. I've seen this movie so many times and I'm still on the edge of my seat every. single. time.
If you missed it, there's one quick set of lines that explains Hudson's attitude completely. It's when they realize the reactor is melting down and about to blow. "Wow. ... And I was getting short, too. Ha. Four weeks! Four weeks, man, and I was out of the corps!" Hudson was scheduled to muster out of the Marines in less than a month. That's why he could sass off at anyone to at least some degree, including the sergeant. Hudson knew unless he did something really stupid, there really wasn't much they could do to him, and his superiors knew it.
Fun fact: Burke actually survives and is found later by Ripley when she goes looking for Newt. She hands him a grenade and leaves him to decide how he dies :D There is a deleted scene on it.
The thing with Burke is, the actor Paul Reiser was best known as a standup comedian at that time, so it was an anti typecasting move to give him such a bad character.
@@electricdevil2422 What's better is his mom even admitted it in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. She merrily said that she loves her son and is proud of him (by that time he had won two Emmys, in fact), but didn't hide the fact that Paul Reiser did such a good job acting she couldn't even see his character as her son. THAT is acting.

Dear Mr. Informer, Thank you so much for posting this video. I love your reaction videos. This time you nailed it. You just can't compare Aliens with Alien. Both are great films, but different. Top-notch entertainment. You know, there are a lot of us out here that have been taken out or the game or never were allowed to play. Whether it was injury, accident illness or genetic, we live alone and have extremely limited income. Renting a movie or even having basic cable is no longer an option for us. In my case I've turned to reaction videos to rewatch some of the great movies that I've seen before. So I'm grateful that you're out there doing this thing. You are really good. I like your choice of films but mostly your style. I'd watch a movie with you anytime. As far as movie reactors go, you are in my top five. (I follow at least 25 of y'all.) If you can get the sound balanced out, (movie up and microphone down,) you would be tied for 1st choice. Going back to Alien and Aliens we're looking at two top directors. A great place to start for recommendations. James Cameron: Avatar Titanic The Abyss The Terminator Terminator 2 Ridley Scott: Blade Runner Blade Runner 2049 The Martian Kingdom of Heaven Gladiator Just Google them and pick any one of their films. Can't forget some of those other names like Spielberg or Lucas. So many great films and I look forward to sharing more of them with you. Thanks again for putting this out there. Sincerely, Scott

"Is it weird that something about Vasquez is working for me?" Be much weirder if it didn't. Vasquez has been turning heads for thirty five years. Janet Goldstein spars with Brian Blessed, F. This was one of my favorites growing up. I still love watching it every now and then. Glad you loved it so much.
One of my favorites, right up there with The Thing by John Carpenter.
Your taste is definitely not off. Vasquez is a force to be reckoned with.
You're such a great reactor. First 2 Alien films are the greatest indeed but I love all Alien films. Each adds something fresh
I could watch them both back to back without getting tired. So much to breakdown. And thanks I really appreciate that!
Great reaction and yes, it ends here.
Your energy in this reaction was just A+ 😁 so enjoyable watching my favorite movie with you ♥️
Vazquez is hot. She's also responsible for the eponymous Vasquez Dies trope.
She's also not John Connor's mom, Todd.
Funny fact was the illegal aliens joke was in reference to Jenette Goldstein thinking the movie was about migrant workers when she auditioned for the role of Vasquez.
It was enjoyable to see someone experience 'Aliens' for the first time. Grew up with this movie, was 7 when i saw it for the first time.
You're the best with that line; "we riot" ahahhaha, I watched this movie like 20 times, it was an honour watchin it with you. Daniel from Europe :). Greets
This is my favorite movie behind Alien 😁 And, as an Alien quadrilogy fanatic, I could geek out with you about this movie for hours and hours. 😉 Thanks for posting!
I was born in july of '86 same year and month this was released that's an honor to be brought into this world around the same time.
this was released a couple of weeks after I was born absolute honor.
LOL Hudson's always been my favorite, he's hilarious. IT'S GAME OVER MAN!
Lol he became one of my favorites at the end
Awesome Movie and Work Bro Thanks 👍 Greetings from Helsinki Finland 🇫🇮🇺🇸
If Aliens was filmed today then all those practical effects would be swapped for CGI, taken away the immersive experience and sense of peril.
Exactly. And also taking away our admiration for the ingenuity of the FX.
Totally agree. I wish movies today would make the effort to do more practical effects. CGI could be used sparingly & I think it would probably look better in many situations.
Then there's "Howard The Duck," where George Lucas chose live action over Anime. ("Ravi Duck" looked great in the comics, as would an Anime Howard.)
@@susanmaggiora4800 it's actually more expensive than cg.
Completey agree. And is it me or is cgi looking worse these days? Lazy film making if you ask me
I say this in all the reactions to Aliens - David Giler, one of the producers of these movies said the first movie was the haunted house, and this one was the roller coaster.
Perfect analogy
The knife game is pretty much as old as knives. There are some patterns that are considerably harder, but the one Bishop does isn't easy mode either. Pretty sure at least like half a dozen kids (all boys, shocker) from my year at school had one or two scars on theit hands/fingers from doing it with a pen or compasses.
Could never do it well in red dead #1 😕
Confirm
😆👍
I remember in the locker room at high school someone did it and sliced down to the bone. Blood was squirting all over the locker room.
Dan O'Bannon, who made Alien, also made and starred in Dark Star. The knife trick was done in Dark Star, so I think that's the connection :)
Also... Vasquez is...yep. I get ya...lmao
Bill Paxton, who played Hudson, passed in 2017. He had rheumatic fever when he was 13 and his heart had been damaged. He had surgery and had to have a further surgery. His health got worse and he suffered a fatal stroke.
Hudson and Hicks actors were also both in Tombstone.
"She's gonna blow!" LOL
I actually saw the Queen in Alien exhibit. She was an absolute work of art. Much of the detail you don't see . And yes she is that big. She's huge.
Dude Hudson is hilarious. Game over man. RIP Bill Paxton.
80's & 90s movies are the best.. Story, practical effects, I wonder if movies will ever be this good again.
And on that note, Alien prequels Prometheus and Alien Covenant, are also great picks. Solid movies that add to the lore and have some fascinating stuff in them
Fun fact: Frosty is the nickname of black marine, who is also a main character in the game, AVP 2
It was the queen who tried to break the agreement, didn't you see the egg try to open before Ripley went to town? :D
My 2 favorite of this Alien movies. Love Ripley.
Bra,I envy you soooo much, watching this film for tha first time!!! Your reactions were GREAT!!! I too loved Newt and her bond with Ripley. The catch-phrases in this movie were dope too.You have a new sub, bub, keep tha vids coming!!!! LOL!!!
Thanks bro I appreciate it!
I really enjoy your reviews. You just got a new subscriber.
It's not weird that something about Vasquez is working for you. I look forward to the pull-up scene every time I watch this.
"These things just won't give up." & "This was too much." Accurate statements. I've seen this movie so many times and I'm still on the edge of my seat every. single. time.
"Hudson is gonna die first"
"Of course, Hudson survives, of all of them, I knew it"...........REALLY?
I meant "ofcourse" out of irony lol. The loudmouth guy survived out of everyone
@@CapedInformer More like the guy with the most personality, all the bland marines were killed off early.
If you missed it, there's one quick set of lines that explains Hudson's attitude completely. It's when they realize the reactor is melting down and about to blow. "Wow. ... And I was getting short, too. Ha. Four weeks! Four weeks, man, and I was out of the corps!"
Hudson was scheduled to muster out of the Marines in less than a month.
Michael Biehn played Hicks also was Kyle Reese in Terminator and Ringo in Tombstone (watch this one)
No Vasquez has always been my secret crush since this movie first came out.
Vasquez and Leela ( Dr Who) helped establish my life long attraction to women who could kill me without breaking a sweat. ;)
Anything you can imagine after this is better than what we got.
But....there is a graphic novel that follows Jones the cat.
Your reaction was priceless, and so fun. Thanks again for your fun reactions and dry humor. Keep smiling!!🤘🙂
Thanks!
Oooo, glad you watched the director's cut of this one, too. It's so good!
i love this movie so much that as a teen i made a cardboard replica of their pulse rifle. i love the WHOLE series no matter how bad they are.
"Hudson's gonna be the first to die. I'm callin' it."
(later) "Oh, of course Hudson survives. I knew it."
:-D LOL
Lol it was the irony that did it for me!
Awesome reaction thank you
Best one in the series
The thing with Burke is, the actor Paul Reiser was best known as a standup comedian at that time, so it was an anti typecasting move to give him such a bad character.
Oh wow I could kind of see him doing comedy now
@@CapedInformer My favorite story about this is that Reiser said his mom went to the premier and CHEERED when Burke bought it.
@@electricdevil2422 To top it off, Paul's sister (jokingly) punched him for playing such a vile character.
@@CapedInformer He also was the lead in a sitcom called Mad About You with Helen Hunt ('92 to '99), he did a really good job playing a weasel. LOL!!! .... PEACE.
Vasquez is beautiful. She's played in A LOT of movies. Her look changes so drastically. She was the Irish mother in Titanic. I didn't know it was her until I was reading something and she was in the credits. I just read that someone else saw that it was her in Titanic.
10:33 Haha did anyone else get freaked out when he brought his hand up and Ripley reacted like he smacked her in the face!
😂😂😂 nice catch! My bad Ripley
And RIP to Hudson and Vasquez!! And loved Apone and Blaine as well
Dear Mr. Informer,
Thank you so much for posting this video.
James Cameron:
Avatar
Titanic
The Abyss
The Terminator
Terminator 2
Ridley Scott:
Blade Runner
Blade Runner 2049
The Martian
Kingdom of Heaven
Gladiator
Just Google them and pick any one of their films. Can't forget some of those other names like Spielberg or Lucas. So many great films and I look forward to sharing more of them with you.
Thanks again for putting this out there.
Sincerely,
Scott
This comment means a lot to me! I’m happy there are those that really enjoy my reactions. It gives me a chance to view classic movies and use my creativity to make them fun for others to watch.
A lot of those that you have listed I plan on getting to soon. I’ve also done Blade Runner already.
Hope you’ll enjoy my future videos!
Re: Vasquez ... Definitely NOT just you 💯
She was fine!
Also a good fact the woman who played Vasquez and aliens she was also in another film called near dark where she also redeemed up with the dude who played Hudson Bill Paxton and the guy who played the Android Bishop Lance hurston they all start together in this film check it out it's a vampire film early eighties great review take care
Yes. This one.
Love your reaction.awesome Kool..👍👌
Thanks
Hudson, Bill Paxton... RIP. ❣️
Such a legendary movie
This and T2 are the best sequels ever where the second films outpace the first
Hudson does go out like a boss
"Is it weird that something about Vasquez is working for me?"
Be much weirder if it didn't. Vasquez has been turning heads for thirty five years. Janet Goldstein spars with Brian Blessed, F. Lee Ermey, Jet Li, and Chuck Norris. The mere sight of Vasquez has been known to turn gay men straight and straight gals gay. Between Vasquez and Ripley, twelve years olds boys came outta theaters with full beards.
Ms. Goldstein auditioned thinking this was gonna be a film about migrant workers. When he finally stopped laughing, Cameron wrote "Vasquez" into the script.
Lol Vasquez was a different breed of woman
You know I'm with you. I have always felt seeing that derelict alien ship would have terrified me. No way in hell would I have ever went inside it.
Very good reaction, BTW, when you get to "Alien 3" PLEASE make sure that you watch the Assembly Cut/version that lasts about 2 and a half hours long.
Thanks!
@@CapedInformer If you absolutely *must* watch Alien 3, Assembly Cut is, indeed, the way to go.
ALL OF THIS REACTION
Thank you. One of the best reactions I've seen to this fine movie x
Thanks for watching! 😊
