My brother was convicted of child molestation. There was more than one victim, one of them a young relative. My mother absolutely refused to believe he was guilty. It tore the extended family apart. My mother insisted everyone in the family believe in his innocence, including my uncle whose daughter was one of the victims. The family relationships were destroyed.

Obviously this requires some nuance. Mental disabilities, including autism, can affect one’s judgement and rationale. Mental disabilities also allow others to take advantage of their reduced cognition in this area. Someone sent him these images. He didn’t request them. Why are you overly willing to acknowledge the lack of understanding of disabilities and how people with disabilities are regularly misunderstood and convicted for crimes they didn’t play a part in or didn’t understand their role in. I don’t think you understand autism. I don’t think you recognize how people with disabilities are used as scapegoats for crimes. You clearly do not know anyone with a mental disability. Do better!

I don't think that's what she meant..... She is clearly buying into the narrative that this was some external misfortunes that befell her little boy - something that happened _to_ him, instead of something he did. In that story, autism is perfectly relevant, because something something vulnerable, trusting, naive scapegoat, fewer friends, susceptible to social pressure etc.etc.

Viewing pornography, or even addiction to it, has a lot of effects on the brain, but isn't capable of changing one's sexual orientation (which is more or less already determined before puberty and not changeable).

But geez it's a TERRIBLE feeling to watch someone do this to their life. You had this idea of this person. You thought you knew someone. And it was all a lie. I went through weeks of emotions. ON top of that, as a favor to his family, I was dealing with his estate for months. Parents definitely go through denial and just plain shock. They ask themselves, what did I do wrong? I left and rebuilt my life after utter slander and destruction. He died 2 years later and I found out he had a warrant out for his arrest molesting his friends 7 year old. I had warned him also. Sucks that people don't listen and try to kill the messenger. In the end you're only responsible for how you react and what you do...I sleep well knowing I didn't cover it up or entertain it.
Light is supposed to uncover the darkness not succumb to it and crimes against children are the most heinous because it hits the innocent and the perpetrators are cowards because they cannot contend with their equals.
      They are bullies.
My ex mother covered for him as well...going to church and praying.
Well God took him out of this world so he won't be destroying anyone else's life.

For example, people who are abused as children in that way sometimes grow up to have those same urges, and that’s horrible. It’s gotta be painful. I’d imagine there are support groups people can find before they make terrible decisions, but it’s such a terrible thing and I’d imagine it would bring about a lot of pain to the person with those urges (specifically if they don’t act on them and it’s just their own burden). Anyone who acts on it must be punished.

As far as the charges, I can't look at case specifics without paying, but apparently he had been receiving CP videos from another student at College, who was arrested. He then sent money to an FBI agent posing as the arrested guy in exchange for CP, and was arrested.

He'll probably get 10 years in prison. Prosecutors are pretty harsh on that stuff. Adults should never message underage kids or teenagers, prosecutors will charge you if they happen to send illegal content. Context doesn't matter in these situations, it's not something you should ever mess around with. I just know this because my mother works in the prison and they don't care where the content comes from, if you have it, you're screwed.

If he was 13, maybe there'd be a chance of therapy and prison would be a bad choice, but 18 means he's probably allowed this to fester and grow since hitting puberty and understanding the morality instead of rejecting it and seeking help.
Unless the police really are just prosecuting someone for unsolicited reception of cp, which I can't imagine, this is society enforcing a standard he didn't choose to enforce on himself as an adult with the means to pose a majot threat to vulnerable children.
