  • A spotlight on the rare Jiangponi, a paragenetic ore, used to make prized Yixing teapots. Gabriele explains the composition, origin, and use of these rare teapots, how the clay and firing affects their colour, and what makes this ore so unusual. Plus, we offer a chance for one quick and clever viewer to win a €20 voucher for our online store! Watch the video to find out how.
    Terminology: Yixing teaware comes from the area around a town of the same name in Jiangsu, China, where stone ores are mined, ground, and mixed with water to form a clay (and then sometimes even aged). While functionally similar, this is not to be confused with a natural riverbed clay. The unique properties of the stone allow solid, yet porous vessels to be constructed with a fine degree of precision, ideal for teapots-this is why Yixing ware is prized by tea lovers worldwide.

    For the QUIZ mentioned in the video: of the 8 teapots, 5 have already beeng said. Let's give one more try among the 3 remaining. If on one guess it right, we will keep the voucher for another video quiz.

      Just Wonder the answer, No. 4. and Zhuni, possibly Zhaozhuang Zhuni, so would be really expensive.

      @@ize1000009 , you got it right! Nr. 4 is by far the most precious Yixing teapot on this video and is a Zhuni. Even if the artist would pretend it being a Zhaozhuang I wouldn't believe it. It is certainly dense and have that orange hue that is sometimes associated with Zhaozhuang. But real Zhaozhuang is so rare nowadays, that unless I see it in a museum I would trust it as authenthic. Please send us a message through the contact form on our website to redeem your voucher.

      nannuoshan and what does it make it so precious? If I understood well, it's not the most expensive, but the most valuable? Why? 🤔

    • @nannuoshan
      @nannuoshan  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Both the most precious and expensive. It costed us about 10 times any other on the picture. The material is of very good quality, with this stone-like feeling that is rare to find. And the artist is fairly established as well, which makes her pots even more expensive.

    Real Zhuni used to be the most expensive clay if it is real. N° 4 and 5 are made of Zhuni. N°4 is the clasic pear style. But to me, I'll say the most expensive one is N°5, cause it has a much more artistic touch.

    Great video as always! This question is really tough to answer since there are so many factors that go into the price of a teapot. Going by material and design, I'm gonna say number 8 - duanni.

      Guy Drinks Tea, sorry for the late reply. No internet in the past days. Nr. 8 is a duanni, but unfortunately not the most precious teapot. It's true, there are so many factors that go into the value of a ln Yixing teapot. In this case is an handmade teapot made of excellent clay and by a famous artist... So it has them all!

      @@nannuoshan Ahh, damn - still, thanks for your reply! Now I'm wondering if it's the other pot I had suspected, though I'm still not exactly sure which type of clay it's made from.

    My guess would be Numer 1, which looks to be Jiang Po Hong Ni

    • @nannuoshan
      @nannuoshan  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Jake, unfortunately is not Number 1. It looks a bit like Jiang Po Ni, but none of the pots in the photos are actually made of this ore.

    Number 3, duanni. I think the tiliang, or the handle is quite tricky to craft

    • @nannuoshan
      @nannuoshan  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Kelvin, number 3 would have definitely difficult to manufacture by hand, but was made with a mold. Thank you anyway for participating, the logic made sense.

    I have a sheng pu drinker who swears by Jiang po ni. Isn't jiang po ni rather porous

    Nr7 and it's a mix of 4 ores (Jiangponi is one of it)

    • @nannuoshan
      @nannuoshan  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for trying Alain! Nr. 7 is a zini, so unfortunately the answer is not correct. Jiangponi already consists of several ores so, to my knowledge, it is not combined with other ores.

      Thanks for clarifying. And thanks for sharing your knowledge around tea.
