    You guys are GREAT! I’m learning a lot from you. Bought two 49 V8 Flatheads and everything I can learn is very important when making my decisions. Awesome...

    Noel Temple, Torrance, California. Your Flathead brings back old memories. Thanks.

    Temple McFlathead, what a guy…That place was famous. I remember towing that roadster to Lions and running pop. MickeyThompson and his starter would get pissed . Like we didn’t give a shit. Do your remember that Ocelot chained to the garage. Many weekend I’d be over there building a flatly along side that crazy guy. Pennsylvania Avenue that little garage produced some of the fastest flatheads ever built.

    Just wondering when the main bearing cap studs and nuts were mention if it is overkill if the tapped threads in the cast iron block are the weak point anyway?

      It would be interesting to hear from folks who have experienced failures to find out what failed. I personally have not experienced any failures. From what I have heard, it is the stock center main cap itself that fails. The newer French blocks have much more rugged center caps than the US versions perhaps indicating a known weak point.

    I was most interested in the installation and choice of rear seal, skipped over that altogether sadly

      I like GraphTite™ rope seals from Best Gasket. See www.bestgasket.com . They provide detailed instructions, a special knife, and a few other trimming aids for installation of their seals with the seal kits.

    did you balance the rotating assembly?

    • @blownflathead
      @blownflathead  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. Always a good idea to balance.

    You don't need to degree the camshaft on a flathead?

    • @blownflathead
      @blownflathead  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Degreeing a camshaft on any engine is always a good idea. This video segment is only meant to be an overview. Going through the degreeing process could easily be a segment by itself. Thanks for noting this subject.
