So nice to see you back Jemma! In the Caribbean we soak the dried fruits with rum for up to an entire year and puree them and takes only about an hour to bake.
I was looking for the Caribbean comment lol :) Trini girl here and I like to blend/puree half of the fruits and lightly chop the rest. Love a bit of texture in the cake. Your cake looks lovely... Time to soak my fruits!
What no wish, while mixing the cake mixture, as is traditional pre holiday baking? we as children had opportunity to make a wish (often about what Santa would bring). I did this with my own children and now they do same with their children today. Queen does the same, each year too. My kit arrived today, so excited... love the Bag... fruit is currently soaking w/ V.S.O.P brandy in my late nanny’s rum pot. She taught me how to bake, but crumbs and dollies Jemma have inspired me to be more active in household bakes etc. Thanks to All at Crumbs and Dollies.
Stir up Sunday is looming up us once again, many wishes to be made x This years kit is slightly different as cherries are typical red store type glacé cherries… I substituted these with my organic dark glacé cherries similar to last season’s box.
Made this 4 times now including twice splitting the mix between 2 loaf tins(lower the cooking time to about 2hrs 15mins) excellent recipe guys, thank you so much😊
I have made this cake every year since you guys posted this video and every year I’m asked if I’m making one again because everyone loves it that much! Thank you Cupcake Jemma for the amazing recipe 🥰
I just LOVE how Sally is watching Jemma with so much attention and respect. It's so nice to see caring people like her ;) and so happy to see you Jemma :D
My parents were English and I grew up in America watching them make English fruitcakes. We made ours one whole year in advance and fed it through the summer, then made another near Christmas for the following year. Our fruitcakes were wrapped in cheesecloth (old school) and soaked in brandy. I can hardly wait for the marzipan and royal icing. My parents never made our fruitcakes that fancy.
Thank you for offering an alternative basting. I don't drink alcohol but very much wanted to make this. The orange juice will be perfect. Sally has been wonderful and it made me smile to have you back Jemma. Yay!
It’s such a joy to see Jemma back! We rly missed you, but I think we all can agree dat u serve a gd break from all these and focus on ur life a bit! We can’t wait for u to b back full on, Jemma! We wish u all the best!!!
I remember my Mom making her fruit cake in July or August. After it cooled she wrapped it booze soaked tea towels and placing it in a container in the fridge. Also her cake was a white fruit cake as opposed to the traditional dark cake and she used almond flavoring. Her recipe was passed down in her family. I remember my Grandmother making this cake.
Lovely to see you ladies back working together. Worship and rely heavily on your recipes. A BIG Happy Christmas to everyone at Crumbs and Dollies. Pilgrimaged last year and was star struck completely!!
Yaaaaaay and there we have our one and only amazing Jemma back with our favourite Sally again to share a delicious recipe for us !! You guys are great and to be honest I can't be thankful enough for your amazing recipes that you share every week ! You guys are amazing ❣️
Very special indeed. Jemma, you sound so calm. Great format! Something's REALLY clicking there. Loved your narrating Sally! Don't fix what's not broken.
I firmly believe the Christmas season doesn't start until December 1...with the exception of making fruitcake! Great to see the dynamic duo back together xx
Who else was getting emotional seeing Jemma back here baking along with Sally? ❤️ The social distancing is making things especially awkward, but the energy is nonetheless bursting from the screen! 🤗
It was so nice to see the two of you in the same video. Also, with all of the doom, gloom, and negativity going on, (I’m in the crazy U.S.), seeing you both smiling and happy was also a treat. Thanks for sharing this lovely recipe with us. Stay safe.
I just made the currents with brandy yesterday as I am gonna make this a New Years cake. I made salted caramel for all my neighbors with little christmasboxes. And they were all excited. So with New Years they all can get a piece of cake!
Would highly recommend this cake!!!! I’ve always wanted to make a Christmas cake and I did this year after watching hundreds videos on it I finally decided on this, it’s absolutely amazing moist smells everything caint wait to make next one
Thanks for a great recipe, I made 2 of these cakes today with minor adjustments on fruit weight (more cherries, peel) but more sugar and flour. Soaked all fruit in homemade spirit alcohol, smoked cherry bourbon and Rum and raisin. Fantastic best Christmas cakes I ever made.. My kitchen smelt great with both being cooked at same time in dual ovens.. 1 weighs 4, 1/2 lb, other 3,1/2 lb. I managed to get a very small taste.. 😁👍.. Top drawer. No cracks or stodgy centres, no burning or fruit sinkage. 3.5 hrs blissful aroma... Subbed... 😁😜👌
I made my Christmas cakes a couple of weeks ago. A bit more work but I prefer to stew my mixed dried fruit in the alcohol and spices. Makes them lovely and plump and as a bonus my flat smells amazing!
@Jana Žáková Hi Jana, I make three of Christmas fruit cakes every year two to give away and one for the house I feed the cake's once a week I have made them all last week This recipe is wonderful Good day☺️
I normally soak the fruits in Harvey’s Bristol cream for about 6 months then mince it. Then when I have baked it brush it with rum every couple of days.
Mine is in the oven. First Xmas cake ever! Father in law was a chef and I never had the confidence to try it but sent for the kit and am looking forward to feeding it and icing it! Eek!
My kits have arrived!! Thank you! They are so perfect. You have really thought of everything and the decorations are adorable. Super excited! Soaked my fruit today and going to bake them tomorrow.
Loved this video! Jemma, my kids and I have been watching your channel for years. My daughter, Eden, is 7 years old and she is over the moon that you have named your little girl Eden too! Lots of love from Auckland, New Zealand
Nice to see you back again!! Have also loved watching Sally baking! Have just ordered the christmas cake box this morning, it will arrive on tuesday, really fast as I live in The Netherlands 👍 Finally my husband is getting a christmas cake after about having to do without for ten years as I found it to much work. Happy husband 😁 Ordered on saturday, arrived on monday. They don't hang about at Crumbs & Doilies 😍
WELCOME BACK JEMMA! It is SOOOOOO Good to see two of my favorite bakers and TH-cam Stars back together again. Sally, you have been totally Awesome during Jemma's absence, and make me wish I were "across the pond" visiting Soho with each video. Jemma you've been sorely missed, and I'm so happy for you and your household with Little Eden. She's adorable. God Bless during London's 2nd Lockdown.
How fabulous to see Jemma!!! Sally and Dane have been doing a brilliant job but it’s great to see Jemma. I wish I could order one of your kits but for some strange reason (distance and import customs aside! 😬) you don’t send them to Australia 😔.
Good luck with lockdown, you two. I wish they would do that here in the US again. It's getting scary here. I am definitely making this cake. It looks absolutely beautiful! Thank you for the recipe!
So lovely to see you back Jemma!! And that Christmas cake is great - I've already done mine (last month) I make several for family and friends as well as myself. And I'll be making and decorating a "normal" cake, probably chocolate, but decorated up for Christmas, for my granddaughters who (shudder) don't like fruit cake! Have a great Christmas, hope you get out of lockdown soon. .
It’s that time of year again! Who else comes back each year for this delicious recipe? 😁❤

Guyanese girl here, my fruits have been soaking for months and ready to bake!
Yes!
Same here for my drunken fruitcake, it goes in the freezer but does not freeze lol. Mmmmmmmm
I mentioned something similar do you use browning or black Molasses
