I believe those 80's Celtics & Lakers teams would roll in this contactless nba

Coop you said they should know all this. But they don't know it, haven't learned it. This is why they will never be near what Bird was as a player. Larry knew it's a team game and it made the Celtics better when he got everyone the ball. Larry knew before that play what he would do and more importantly why it had to go that way. Like you said either Kareem was taken out of the next play like that or he would hesitate. And that fraction hesitation was all he needed. Bird, Larry Legend redick all but forgotten.

Coop is just pure Class man. As a Laker for him to defend Celtics legends like Cousy and Bird goes to show you how much class this guy has. I'm not a Lakers fan but man Coop was and still is special.

I know Michael Cooper is going to remember this game.. How good Larry Bird was and the respect other teams had for him. The Indiana pacers game in the playoffs. Against Chuck Pearson. Remember when he went out with the broken cheekbone and then came back. Indiana took control of that game when he was out and the moment he came back on the floor you could see it in their face. What was about to come. That's the difference between him and other players. There's only very few players that other teams are scared of.. I know comparing players from decades to different decades but out of bird and LeBron. It's bird. Simply because of free throws and clutch 3-pointers or game-winning shots. The physicality he would eat this NBA up alive. Simply because of the lack of physicality. Know Larry's not the only one from that era. It would have been fun to watch Bernard King.. in today's game. Moses Malone. Hakeem olajuwon. Mark Aguirre. Alex English... You know it would have been fun to watch during the Golden State run. Plan a team like the Pistons. With Rick mahorn John salley Dennis rodman Bill laimbeer Isiah Thomas Vinnie Johnson. Philadelphia .Boston .New York. Chicago .Detroit.Houston.Lakers. I wonder how many championships Golden State would have won if they had to go through the Eastern conference back then.

Coop: "JJ was a journeyman, 6 different teams ". When Magic threw the Coop a Loop, it was over. The Showtime Era, which the Lakers created, with Coop being a lockdown, shutdown defender and finisher is all about the Truth. Just as he is calling out Reddick, the late Jerry West also called him out for his denigration of players who paved the way, put in major work, before Reddick was even drinking Emfamil .I still don't know what the Lakers were thinking, naming this "journeyman " as HC of this storied franchise.

As a Celtics fan in the 80's, Michael Cooper scared the shit out of me as much as Kareem or Magic did. Coop could first defend like a demon. Then had great court awareness to find the open guy. Then if you forgot about him or left him open, he'd hit a 3 on you. He could jump out of the gym and was way more athletic then he was ever given credit for. Much respect from this Celtics fan for Coop! That's about all...

Way too tell JJ what’s up Coop! The 80s more physical ever. Now I don’t watch basketball anymore because it’s soft and we know what’s going to happen when they bring the ball up court.

Hey Coop You need to go back to school and this time stay awake in history class. While it is true that Magic and Larry made the NBA popular around the world, that didn't happen in a vacuum. Red introduced roundball to the world. The Celtics would tour foreign lands, and Euros couldn't believe what they were seeing. Red never let the team let up. They clobbered those teams. Every time they played, Euros stepped (sic) up to the learning curve. That is how it all started. With that guy who couldn't dribble with his left hand. He was the Houdini of the hardwoods with only one hand. LOL. Love the way you express and represent! Your take on guarding JJ reminded me of Bill saying Steve Kerr would never have made that shot off the pass from MJ because he wouldn't have been in the league. He wouldn't have been in the NBA because he wouldn't have been one of the 85 best plumbers and slick insurance salesman (all of whom were college graduates) in the World. Keep up the good work teaching these kidz.

Lifelong Celtic fan here who admires the rivalry with the Lakers over these many years. Coop was an absolute beast on the court with his balls to the wall defense. Love his stories and miss the heyday of their rivalry. Lastly I agree with Coop about JJ Redick and his uninformed comments about how much better today’s players. Not true.

You know new era NBA Media especially JJ REDDICK all they can do is talk about stats honestly. . MJ Goat saved a dead franchise the NBA and took it Globe stats can't compare Goat to LeBron and Goat went through Legends to make him great and taking them L but know excuses never jumped shipped built a franchise and his teammates because Goat was Bulls

if coop is not in the hall of fame he should be. larry said he was the best defensively & he could shoot 3's and run the floor. with out coop the lakers don't win 5 times.. to prove my point cooper played to the side of larry denying him the ball which really hurt the celtic offense. bird could not score or assist without the ball in his hands.

But that is not what Reddick said, I think people are now mixing his words for content. All that Redick said was that you cannot consider Bird as one of the elite 3 point shooters for the reason that on average he was shooting 2 to 3 3pts a game, compared to most players now shooting 9 to 12 3pt shots. He even says that Bird is one of the best five players that has ever played. I have seen bird played in the 80's and he was a great player...if he played in this era and was given the opportunity to shoot 9 to 12 3pts, he probably be make 40% to 45% of all his 3pt shoots, but at that time they valued more 2pts...which now most teams, including the Celtics are winning or dying by the 3pt. Sad because I personally think that Jaylen Brown could be an excellent post player, and be even more of a Bucket machine that he is right now.
