i think there's a middle ground here. you can main something, have a lot of knowledge about it, and put time into it, but still have the self respect to know that a flex player can be just as capable as you.
I used to be a flex player and play a lot of different things. I still do, but i've focused down on the brella and brush class back in S2, and my time focusing on them helped me get much better at them. However, the path of being a pure flex player is also totally valid and can also help your understanding of the game too in different ways. We're all valid for the way we play the game!
One thing I found helpful about being a flex player is that the more weapons you decide to use the more weapons you will know the counters for. I used to hate fighting stamper until I started to try it myself and now I know how to fight it better. Same with chargers and blasters.
0:30 ABSOLUTELY TRUE! I love about 95% of the weapons in Splatoon. If I played ONE THING ONLY, I'd get way too bored way too quickly. Any onetricks out there, kudos to you. I can't ever do that.
honestly it makes sense to specialise in a weapon or class, but when there are like... 120 weapons in this game, you might as well play and learn other weapons too at least to a degree. splatoon isn't a fighting game with way fewer characters and a lot more to learn on each character. i'm pretty sure the "main" term carried over from smash anyway in splatoon's caze...
I relate to dude so much, I have the mindest of just going over weapons because if I stick with one I get bored, i've tried getting five star hydra and end up playing a splatana or stringer later in my games because I got bored lol
The thing I understand is like trying a new weapon but matchmaking forces you to rank down because you just can't win with a new weapon; even if you did well with it. Brian doesn't use either charger much because he wins more with custom explosher and snipewriter.
Oh now this is very relatable. When a weapon feels weird today I switch off to a new weapon, work on all the 1 stars and stuff or just play something I haven't touched In a while. Splatoon never gets old because all the different weapons feel different
I regularly play like at least 1 weapon from each class (with the exception or brushes). I have no weapons with 5 stars, but a LOT of weapons with 4 stars. It definately helps with increasing enjoyability of the game as it is fun to play some weapon you haven't played in a while or try out a new weapon you haven't played as much. I have been playing a lot of ballpoint recently to get better at it as it is really technical, but that's what I enjoy in this game.
Salmon Run helped me with this tremendously! I have a problem sticking with shooters. Thanks to SR, I have a newfound love for something in every class! Currently trying out different weapons in anarchy now!
I’m a very picky person to begin with, but I’ve learned to use some shooters, buckets and splatlings. And I just picked up a few weapons from each class to have a variety for me to play with. I like playing consistently as well and help my teammates in the ways I enjoy and best at
Wow, this whole video made sense. I literally just wanted to try tri-stringer for the first time to get away from my usual long distance shooter. Walked into it think "I'm gonna hate this weapon." But had amazing high kill games and enjoyed learning the weapon and tactics!
I picked up dapples almost a motnh ago now and theyve been really fun. (almost 5 stars with them too lol) But recently ive been playing stamper alot. I wanna step outside of the weapons I know how to play and learn different playstyles and roles. Stamper has been really hard but im learning and improving and I've really been enjoying it! I also feel like playing a cariety of different weapons also improves your game sense on how other people play and do things. Being able to play a bunch of different weapons and being able to play them well is a goal that I would really like to have and I really understand how you can get burnt out by just playing one weapon.
I like going for weapons that function similarly to my main, My favorite weapon is stamper but I also play a lot of 96, Range Blaster, and Dread since they all kinda have that long range area denial kinda thing going
i personally main things for sure, but i love playing a bunch of weapons as well. its like, if im playing a series or x match i only play vwiper or sblast 91, but if im just playing the game then ill play whatever rlly! so i think a mix of both styles is my best way to play. its still fun to this day for me so yea ! for the elitism thing, yeah you def see that kinda stuff a lot in lots of pvp communities. there is definitely a truth behind the fact someone who mains something is experienced in it, but that doesn't mean youre ALWAYS correct. having experience /= knowing everything and there is always room for improvement and tips from people who are potentially more knowledgeable yet have less playtime than you. (i typed the original comment before getting to that part so i wouldn't forget to but felt like adding this in after so, yeah thats all lol)
I think you’re missing the point of what a main weapon is. It means the weapon you play the most. Each player has one unless you actually swap through each weapon per game.
There will always be weapons someone will perform better with than others and that will result in someone being "best" with 1 specific weapon but I agree that people should still play many different things. I want to "learn" at least 1 weapon from every weapon class for example. the weapons I perform the best with (by far) are Splatterscope and carbon deco. but I don't see them as "more a main" than Custom blaster, Wiper deco, Dualie squelchers or tri stringer. (which are the other weapons I would consider myself to be pretty good with by now) And it feels like the devs really want people to play weapons from different classes instead of specializing in just 1. I always struggled with playing Splatlings so when I decided to pick one that I want to learn I went with the mini because it just doesn't feel like a "typical splatling" to me. I'm a shooter that shoots when I let go of the button instead of when I hold it. Most of the weapon classes have an option for everyone. be it someone who prefers to be in the front, support more, or stay in the back, so there is something to find everywhere. except for backline brush or splatana. would be interesting to see how they would do that...
I want to try different weapons and practice with them on anarchy open but i always have the fear that someone might report me because of "throwing" so i always go back to octoshot
i paid for the whole splatoon, im gonna use the whole splatoon
REAL

Dude: I don't have a main weapon
Also dude: Always playing 96 deco in X rank.
Cuz its good

TH-cam just told me that DUDE is my favorite gaming content creator and I watched him 31x as much as the average viewer
The real question players should be asking isn't what weapon(s) you main, but rather WHAT playstyle you prefer.
i personally main things for sure, but i love playing a bunch of weapons as well. its like, if im playing a series or x match i only play vwiper or sblast 91, but if im just playing the game then ill play whatever rlly! so i think a mix of both styles is my best way to play. its still fun to this day for me so yea !

Now I want to go play some splatana stamper
great video. You have a competitive mentality that i wish i had
i didn't pay $60 for one weapon
Don't worry, Dude. I will ask you this question when Splatoon 4 comes out.
Personally, I paid $80 or more for the whole package, & I’m going to squeeze as much enjoyment out of that & at least try every weapon
I think you’re missing the point of what a main weapon is. It means the weapon you play the most. Each player has one unless you actually swap through each weapon per game.
The burnout segment makes sense and probably why I took three session off the title plus I just do not enjoy the title.

i agree with the sentiment and i feel the same way about playing weapons personally. but dude seems a little mad about something that im not seeing
I tough that this was just me
While i play a large majority of the weapons in the game i still have a few that i dedicate as my mains
dude youve farmed content on this rotation for 2 videos now. mustve been a good stream
i do the exaxt same thing, i just want 1 5* by splatoon 4 release day
But you kinda main 96 deco in this game lol.
Haven't you always had mains in competitive?
Who actually mains a weapon I literally love every charger and flingza lol
Have u 5 starred the Gal weapon , sir dude?
1 with kraken
Man stop..we all know your main is .96 😂
What about squeezer?
He dropped that after the nerf.
Dude does not main anything... He does like alot of mid range shooters tho.
Focussing on just one weapon is just a really boring thing to do 🥱
