Absolute lack of job security VS job security. This is crucial in my opinion. I left academia after 5 years of post doc and 3 years od other positions and feel finally alive

I also believe that there is a greater amount of diversity of job types in industry. With a greater number of niches, scientists can find positions that best suit their talents and interests.

I love to work in academic research, but it is a lot of work for few benefits, and long-term job insecurity. And I am not even taking into account that only a small fraction of PhDs and postdocs actually are able to get a permanent job in academia.
I particularly think a more dynamic academic job market would allow a less competitive environment and would help a lot in maintaining people in academia.

Great video. I am particularly interested in the problem of the recognition that a lot of the industry depends on the results from academia. I think part of the solution is to make the academic path more reasonable, with more money and more predictability, but also that companies are more open with their research. I obviously understand the importance of retaining competitive advantages, however, I think there are a lot of room for improvement in companies collaborating to develop standards and technology which would benefit the whole industry. Also, the length of intellectual property rights should be adapted to account for the pace that technology evolves. It is not reasonable to allow the advancements achieved by a company to anchor a whole sector of the words industry.

I think it's all about the money and the benefits.
