- Destiny 2's Lore tells us of how the attack in the Eliksni district occurred and how Crow stepped in to stop it before it got worse. Crow's relationship with the Fallen has made him one of their protectors as they try to make it through the endless night!

Crow is definitely a better person than my guardian, although if this where a more open roleplaying experience I would have told him a long time ago that I was the guardian to put his body on that funeral plinth and why.

My instant reaction to any and all reactions with Lakshmi has been a heavy sigh and an involuntary eye roll. She was right _one time,_ now she thinks she's some kind of deity. She needs to spend less time in Vex tech and more time in the field.
Maybe go have a chat with Clovis, Lakshmi-- I'm sure it would warm your heart to meet a kindred spirit.
This man seriously needs to offer his talents to Audible. He is truly a perfect narrator. A strong silky smooth voice. HE reads not to slow as to be boring but not to fast as to remove all the tension and drama. You truly make the simple reading of destiny lore a treat to listen to thank you Byf.

I would be absolutely fine with having a repeatable mission where you just patrol around the Eliksni quarters for 10 minutes.
I wouldn't even care about loot. I just want to actively participate in helping refugees feeling a bit safer.
It would be neat to see a permanent guardian presence there. As we’ve seen a guardians mere presence can be an excellent pacification method when it comes to mob violence

I find it funny that the Guardians who have been out there fighting the Fallen and have seen the ruins and results of their actions are the ones who are willing to help and offer them a hand while some people of the Tower, mostly safe and protected are the ones who want to sabatoge them.

The guardians' status quo has been conflict and rapidly changing circumstances for centuries, many have lived long enough that they truly understand that people can change.
Your bog standard human in the City has lived their entire life in relative comfort and stability. This Endless Night has already thrown everything into flux, I have a feeling that even if the Fallen were not present Lakshmi-2 would still be trying to start the coup, many likely see the Night as yet another loop in a string of absolutely horrific failures that started in the Red War, their faith has been shaken and Lakshmi is taking advantage as all self-centered politicians do to gain personal power.
I think if the people of the city saw enough guardians ignoring their petty antics and going ahead and helping the Eliksni in every way possible and doing it peacefully, it would change how they view the fallen. They may start to see their own past plights in the current struggles of the House of Light.

We as guardians saw what the fallen have done, but we also saw what we did them and in order to fight them more effectively we tried to understand their motivations only to find out it was just survival and desperation, in the meantime the city only heard stories of riders and invading armies

At some point I think we The Guardian need a cut-scene of us showing Crow, Cayde's grave and telling who he was and what he is now, thus making him the new Hunter Vanguard.

And what qualifies him to be the vanguard? He’s a new light who still doesn’t know everything about the history of the world. Also the people of the city will never accept the man who killed Cayde as a leader.

Crow really isn’t qualified to be hunter vanguard. He’s way too fresh. I feel like it’s be incredibly stupid to shoehorn in someone with so little experience as a vanguard.

Its wierd, the guardian who is us won't have an opinion on the matter because its up to the player if they're on Lakshmi's or the Eliksni's side. The way the narrative is going, almost everyone is going to be on the Eliksni's side, but Bungie can't just force the guardian to take a political stance since it would be forcing you to take that side.
The only thing I don’t like this season is the lack of our own voice and interactions (like cmon at least let ghost talk for us) and how Mithrax doesn’t remember us at all

Just calling it here and now, I think the person Lakshmi has on the inside is Osiris. If Lakshmi is being tricked by Savathun, Osiris has the crown. He’s likely under its control and is being used to help the coup.
Nah, it's going to be Ikora. She has been steadily marching down the path if a benevolent dictator.
She forced her decision on the city, berated anyone who disagreed with it and has just recently talked about shutting down public broadcasts that she disagrees with. Her language may be soft, but her actions/decisions are quite extreme
@@ADway-hn7qu yet she’s the only one who doesn’t want anybody hurt. If you read all the current lore tabs and current mission, it’s incredibly clear Lakshmi and Ikora are NOT working together. Lakshmi teamed up with the other two faction dudes SPECIFICALLY to take authority from the vanguard, which currently only consists of Ikora and Zavala.

People are afraid and fed with inaccurate knowledge.(add the classic racist human behavior of the general public too) They as a community aren't in position to make good nor right decisions. Ikora Rey, whilst seemingly going down a dictatorish way, is just trying to make the best decision. Keeping eliksni inside the walls without any cultural teachings, as in teaching humans about Eliksni and otherwise, is totally a bad idea. However making our best and maybe only hope to break the Vex attack on the city face the dangers of outside of the safe walls and making them face with other problems that would affect The House of Light making them weaker like not having a reliable ether source and constantly having to defend theirselfs would also cost us as in the helpings of The House of Light on "The Endless Night". There isn't really a idealistic choice in this situation. We don't have any time to make humans warm up to Eliksni nor via versa. And we don't have any time to delay the problem that is The Endless Night. We just need all the help that House of Light could possibly give us. In return of course well protect and supply them. Imo this is the most "good" choice that there is.

Personally, I like it. Savathun so far is a great unseen big baddie like Sauron. She has the Last City in a state of turmoil and fear, has Guardians considering mass murdering civilians ( judging by comments) which would lead to House of Light seeing Guardians as true monsters not protectors, especially if they’re using Stasis.
Hopefully the Season ends with good cut scene.
I see fallen as allies even though I've fought the houses of devil, king, and wolf. They are unfortunate survivors of darkness in so I want them in the walls... Plus their line rifles hit hard and their shanks are adorable.
Edit: also just saying give titans their shockwave slams, nova lances for warlocks, and PUNCH THROUGH FOR GOLDIE! There Bungie can make arm exotics that can change light sub metas again good times *cry's in panic slam titan*

I love hearing all this new lore but it's also incredibly frustrating. We hear about all these things that happened behind the curtain with the Eliksni, from the ramen shop boy being murdered to this, and we get no say in the matter. All I can do in the Eliksni quarter is scan things that read out lore. I can't use my infinite supply of glimmer to buy new supplies for House Light, I can't randomly stumble upon an attack like Crow did, I can't make a tangible choice in the game. Season of the Chosen could be a bit frustrating in the same way, but at least we didn't have to watch Saladin straight up assault or murder innocents while hoping that a lore tab somewhere explains how a famous character prevented it from getting worse :/
After posting I realized someone's gonna go ''Typical. Never happy with anything Bungie does'' and I wanna stress *I LOVE THE NEW FOCUS ON STORY* . I just wish it felt like I was playing in it, not going to the cinema every Tuesday to see what would have happened anyway, with or without my participation.
I do find it kind of odd that we gather “Ether” for keys but we can’t use it to replenish the house of light stockpiles
@@randomguys2 I totally agree. I also wanted something like this when Byf did his dark guardian videos recently. I want to be able to hunt down guardians and either redeem them or end them. (If that were to become a thing I think Bungie should make their AI more unpredictable and quicker than anything else in the game.) I want to be able to affect the lore directly, not just by causing massive events.
I like the feeling that we're just... going flat-out on the Vex problem, and this is stuff that's happening where we can't intervene or don't have the cycles or authority to do so. It's never seemed like we had much political power beyond the fact that the Vanguard (somewhat) respects our opinion.
We should be able to expect the consensus to keep the city together while the Vanguard protects it, but the consensus is failing us all badly in that respect.

Which then leads to them to not trusting you and creating things to defend themselves, which is then perceived as an act of aggression. This allows the people to believe they were justified the entire time and would only become worse.
Bungie's doing a good job with this story, or so I think. I myself don't play Destiny 2 so the only information I get about it is from Byf
Lakshmi-2 is the "self fulfilling prophecy" and the hostile people of the City are the "you create your own enemies".
Bungie is doing really well to portray humanity and our ability to do hypocrisy (not sure on other countries but the way Lakshmi-2 and these hostile people are acting is reminding me of the current US).

The violence she incites, the terror, the tribalism to get humans to turn on one another, the power they gain from simple manipulation, those have been political mainstays be it Republicans or Democrats. The group attacking the fallen are quite like BLM, too. "We can't find a reason for them to hurt us now, but we're angry at these people for the past so we'll hurt them and make them angry to justify our narrative". It's a simple tactic, and the fact that the masses are falling for it makes it just as realistic. Despite the fact that Bungie supports them, even giving people a pin and emblem related to them, they've made an incredibly accurate representation of how they act.

"We will not be the monsters some people think us to be" which really just shows that the eliksni, at least at their height, were more culturally moral than humanity has ever been. Man, I don’t if because I’m ACTUALLY keeping up to date with all of this lore it once but this season has got me tense as FUCK rn. We kinda all knew where Caitl was going with her plan but this is beyond anything like before. This is amazing stuff they’re putting out! Plus the world building about the denizens of the last city is something to behold

Yeah honestly it really kicked in with me with Season of the Chosen. Meeting Crow and getting to know this version of an old enemy and just seeing how empathetic and compassionate he was REALLY hooked me. And it's just grown ever since. This season is like...peak Destiny storytelling, though. REALLY stoked for the rest of it and for what comes next.

What if occasionally when you were in the Eliksni Quarter there would be an alarm that would go off, and you would go to the edge and there would be a prompt saying "Disperse Riot" or something and then it would switch to 3rd person and you would be holding a gun at them like what Crow did.

@@Flamme-Sanabi We’ve killed gods and kings with little to no effort at all (sure the universe was at stake, but when was the last time a story mission had any sort of difficulty). It doesn’t matter how many there are, by the end of the day they could be nothing but ash and dust should we so choose. Nobody likes to fight us because nobody has beaten us, it would be suicide to try.

It actually annoys me that the guardian (IE your character) hasn't spoken up to defend the eliksni in any way. The guardian who slew crota, oryx, atheon should have large sway with the entire city and saint-14 since he looks up to you and to follow your example. And the fact you go to the city often should alleviate the civilians fears since they know you are nearby to defend them. This has bugged me for awhile, though I can assume it's most of Savathuns doing.
You keep saying that Vriiksis’s brother is dead, but we don’t actually know his final fate, do we? In the Shattered Cipher lore entry, the Exo kidnapper was entering a tunnel to chase him down. He did manage to escape and could have survived the ordeal.

I feel like my titan would stand create a group of guardians who would watch the surroundings of the house of light living areas.
And I feel like my hunter would be part of that group

I've always wondered how the people of the city would act if they found themselves crossing a guardian. And crow going full batman on the saboteurs was just a great touch. I didn't think I could like him anymore.

Story this week was delivered beautifully. 'Let me tell you something about monsters' Cue cutscene. It really feels like narrative is being supplemented with lore rather than the opposite. It makes me excited. Go back to the Eliksni Quarter and look around for some new dialogue from Eido..... And Lakshmi's claim... About the song the people echo through the city... That's chilling. More seeds being planted. Just this season alone is making me hyped for witch queen.
My only issue with the monsters cutscene is how one sided it felt. The only perspective on this we get is from Mithrax and the Eliksni when you could have had Saint retort to Mithrax about how the Fallen sieged the Last City for centuries, about the horrors Saint has seen. And once they both realize that they've both been letting past prejudices and fear get in the way, they can actually work towards meaningful peace. The scene just felt incomplete. It also feels like Mithrax doesn't fully understand that he is to many citizens in the city, what Saint is to his people. Everyone is afraid of everyone right now and Lakshimi is preying on that. But I think a way that Saint and Mithrax could've remedied that is through an exchange of perspectives and understanding each other's perspectives.
@@ballom101 I think it's because they left the response for Override. Last week, one potential ending was Saint talking about the atrocities humanity has suffered from at the hands of Eliksni.
But there is a new dialogue upon completion this week between Ikora and Mithrax where she states 'It has deeply affected him' in regards to Saint. I think that's OK in the sense that, we knew Saints perspective and the cutscene served not just as a 'Let me tell you something about monsters' moment for Saint but as a new perspective of him for us in cutscene form. They had to introduce the player and Saint as a character to this new perspective of him and I think they accomplish it well. Even if Saint doesn't have a direct response after, the fact that it's still talked about within game is still an accomplishment in my book. Not to sound like I'm trying to devalue a well made point BTW.
And I believe this exchanging and coming to a mutual understanding is something to be fleshed out over the season not just on the scale of Saint and Mithrax and their interactions. But the interactions of the people of the city and the House of Light on a grander scale.

My gripe is that through other dialogues we see that it has effected Saint, either others talk about how its effecting him or we get little bits like him rebuking Lakshimi in regards to one of his more infamous lines. But in that moment...it felt incomplete. Something a little more from Saint felt needed in that moment instead of us being told how it effected him later. But, maybe that's just me.

I listened to some mission dialogue between Osiris and Mithrax where Mithrax suggested his techs take a look at the FWC's Device to see if they can improve it. Osiris shoots him down immediately. First stating the Black Armoury has upgraded it already, then pointing out the FWC's distaste of Eliksni (even though that should be the first reason not to try Mithrax's idea). He seemed too intent on burning that bridge. And he brought that cursed crown into the city. I think Savathun has more than just the civilians under her sway.
So that "rise up one...song Lakshmi was humming sounds like Savathun's chant huh...I've had my suspicions, but this just proves that all recent events from the Endless Night, to Lakshmi's extremism and the paranoia inspired within the Last City's people's all been a part of the web that Savathun's been spinning (who knows, maybe even the entire saga relating to Eramis' corruption might've been her doing).
Imagine if She's the one who causes the supposed "Lightfall" - not by laying siege upon us through some insurmountable force, but rather by eroding us from within through deception and manipulation, inciting a civil war. Man, Shaxx has already been seen humming her chant as well - I sure as hell do hope that he isn't the one we end up fighting against. Getting similar vibes from Osiris too.

Out of all the AI enemies in Destiny, ever since D1 when I started to find out about them, I've never really wanted to fight the Fallen. Cabal, Vex, Hive, Taken, I shoot first and ask questions later. The Fallen/Eliksni though... I've always waited until they fired on me before responding in kind.

I heard that too today... Osiris is definitely not on the up and up. It's bothered me a little prior to today that Osiris was deferring to Lakshmi about the Vex. As if somehow Osiris wouldn't be THE expert on the Vex given all the time he spent in the infinite forest! After today... Osiris is beyond suspect.

Crow has absolutely earned my trust. The redeeming arcs they’ve dedicated to Crow makes me happy, and as far as I’m concerned he’s absolutely not the Uldren Sov who took the life of our favorite Hunter.
I'm just wondering what happened to Mithrax fireteam of that hunter and warlock? They just kinda disappeared from the lore tabs
Yeah, they barely left his side before. It would be perfect for them to guard the House of Light while he's away helping us. Hopefully Bungie didn't just ignore them for plot inconvenience.

I just wish the season/story started with the fallen moving to the Farm where then the Vanguard would move them to the city later.
It does feel rushed just to let them into the City given the history. Having the farm be the first location would help develop the power struggle between the factions/vanguard and the people and who really has control of the city and willing to let them be apart of the City Imo.
At this point, I care more about protecting the Eliksni than I care about protecting the people of the city save a choice few in the tower.
I wish I could have seen my own face in 3rd person when Lakshmi sang "the peoples song of the city"

I'm curious to see what's going on with Osiris....between Saint noticing something off about him and his comments at the new of Expunge Styx make me think that Osiris is not entirely himself at this point.

So his killer being revived as a lightbearer? Cayde would laugh at irony and poetics of it. Vanguard is more than just being a leader, it’s more like the guardian class representation of the cities war council. His time with spider makes him useful in many ways

The whole year of destiny this year is about people struggling to adapt to a different culture, seek redemption and pursue equality. Bungie have for sure taken alot from the real world the last 2 years and adapted it into the story and have done brilliantly to show that no matter what we are the same, we all want the same and together we are more than we are segregated or feuding.

Very happy to see Crow stepping in to protect the Eliksni. That's my fucking *boy* right there. I've really been enjoying his story since season of the hunt, and I can't wait to see how they handle him emerging from the shadows to take up the mantle that, at this point, I think we're all falling off our seats in anticipation to see him hold.
However, I do have a particular critique of this season's story, and even last season's, to a lesser degree. I would really like to see our Guardian getting at least a little involved with this season's politics. I have no doubt that if the player guardian acted as a political figure - even just a little bit - we could influence the path that events are taking. Think about it - we are perhaps the single most successful guardian hero in all of the City's history.
In Destiny 1, It was us who brought the fight to Crota and avenged the Great Disaster. When Oryx came knocking, we were instrumental in the offensive against his forces, and led the raid that laid him low. When the threat of the Devil Splicers and their use of SIVA rose, it was we who cleansed the plaguelands and brought down Aksis, their Archon-turned-god.
In Destiny 2, we rose against the Red Legion, despite all odds, and broke the mighty, indomitable Dominus Ghaul, reawakening the Traveler and allowing the people of the City to return to their home. When a rogue Uldren and his Scorned Barons murdered the Hunter vanguard, it was us who tracked them to the Shore and put them down.
Even Saint-14's many accomplishments, long and storied though they may be, cannot compare to all we have done. We are, after all, the main character. What I'm saying is that given the greater focus on Destiny's politics, I find it a bit disappointing that so far, the famed Hivebane, Kingslayer, Hero of the Red War, who should be one of the most important figures in City politics, even if only as a figurehead, has been pretty much entirely absent from those politics, aside from as a weapon to be wielded by those who actually act as political figures. I would really love to see us begin to actually engage with people like Lakshmi-2 and Saint-14, rather than just observing their conversations or having them talk at us and, at best, interpret our silence to mean whatever it is they take away from it.
I'm not really gonna hold my breath as far as this all goes, though, since there are unfortunately a number of complicating factors that may make it difficult for Bungie to involve the player guardian as more than a weapon of the vanguard, not least of which is the fact that, unfortunately, not everyone *has* actually done all those things. Still, if they do manage to actually involve our Guardian in the politicking that has helped make the last couple of seasons so interesting, I'd be very happy, and very pleasantly surprised.
I totally agree with this, but I think canonically we are out of the city 99% of the time in this season spearheading the effort to shut down the endless night. Our guardian probably rarely canonically returns to the tower at the moment
Crow's strongest trait, and one that carries over from the man he used to be, is that ones he gets an idea in his head, he pursues it earnestly and relentlessly.
As a Guardian of the FWC, I'm appalled by what Lakshmi-2 has been doing.
I just love seeing everyone appreciating Crow. His redemption arc is so beautiful, and it warms my heart that slowly but surely, everyone is seeing him as a new man, separate from the horrible person he was reincarnated from.
I’m curious, how many Guardians actually know about their past? Before their ghost reforged them in light, makes you wonder what we were before dying in the Cosmodrome
I doubt that any except for Ana Bray knows. And even then, she doesn't know the whole thing, only what she managed to dig out by herself and what Elsie told about her previous life albeit in different timeline

Most Guadrdian's don't know who they are because they are Risen from people that died around the time of the collapse... Centuries ago and little records/knowledge.
At this point it's kinda silly that Crow doesn't know who is was... I mean... it's recent Destiny history. All he would have to do is go on the Last City's version of Google and he could find out in minutes from a quick image search.
Ana bray kinda knows, but that seem mostly through learning, Shin Malphur has all of his memories I believe based on the story since his ghost originally belonged to Jaren Ward. (also comes to mind with the theory about him being the child that got resurrected) There is also Himura shinobu of the 6 coyotes, who I believe Byf has a video about. She was resurrected by a ghost while 5 other hunters were in her home village attempting to defend it from the house of kings. She was given her own diary by one of the hunters and then they eventually formed the 6 Coyotes. Those are the instances I can think of where guardians know their past. Feel free to politely correct me if there is more or I am wrong
Well, Cayde also remembers some part of his past because of the diary he kept when he was raised. And Cayde also says that all the Exo's remembers their names, and mostly of them have dreams with their previous memories.
The story this season... SO GOOD thus far. I think you mentioned this last season, but the bar has been raised.
