This set is massive !!!!! I really enjoyed building it. But I haven't try it on Lego curve track, not sure can it turn with this length or can it be motorized?. I will make another video for it.
Good set and great for display.

The Union Pacific Big Boy is a type of simple articulated 4-8-8-4 steam locomotive manufactured by the American Locomotive Company (ALCO) between 1941 and 1944 and operated by the Union Pacific Railroad in revenue service until 1962.
The 25 Big Boy locomotives were built to haul freight over the Wasatch mountains between Ogden, Utah and Green River, Wyoming. In the late 1940s, they were reassigned to Cheyenne, Wyoming, where they hauled freight over Sherman Hill to Laramie, Wyoming. They were the only locomotives to use a 4-8-8-4 wheel arrangement: four-wheel leading truck for stability entering curves, two sets of eight driving wheels and a four-wheel trailing truck to support the large firebox.
Today, eight Big Boys survive, with most on static display at museums across the country. One of them, No. 4014, was re-acquired by Union Pacific and rebuilt to operating condition from 2014 to 2019 for the 150th anniversary of the First transcontinental railroad, regaining the title as the largest and most powerful operating steam locomotive in the world. Out of all the pffbrand lego big boy mocs this one is probably the best scaled to minifigures and other lego trains. The one from bluebrixx I also have is too small and long. And others are far more expensive. Does have a few issues though as the silver pipes on mine also didn't stay on. Hello. I know this is a late comment, but I was just wondering, what modifications to this set would I have to do to have it turn on corner?
Edit: I believe I have figured it out. The tender has non articulated wheels. That’s probably the issue, unless the engine has non articulated parts, but from what I’ve seen, I believe the middle wheels for the tender is the issue. Thanks for the video by the way!

God I wish lego would just give us a Trains theme already and let us have differently sized wheels! I love how this set looks but the gap between the wheels and body is putting me off. I would love to see lego's master builders take a crack at giving us the Big Boy as an official set

I wish Lego came out with more authentic locomotives. Their last good one IMO was the Maersk Sealand set, although they decided to mash a bunch of designs together and call it a GP40.... I want modernized authentic sets that go back to railroads like Conrail, Amtrak, CSX, BNSF, ATSF, Burlington Northern, etc.

@@njfox3305 Yes. The Big Boy, or 4000 series is larger than the Challenger, or 3000 series. The wheel arrangement of the Big Boy is 4-8-8-4, and the Challenger is 4-6-6-4. Another amazing and interesting American steam locomotive worth investigating is the Southern Pacific AC-12 cab forward. Just like the Challenger and Big Boy locomotives, it was an articulated design, and its wheel configuration was 4-8-8-2. It basically looked like a steam locomotive that was operating with its cab at the front, and with a tender in the rear. It was able to operate in this configuration because it burned fuel oil that was pumped through a pipe from the tender to the firebox in the cab at the front at a low pressure. If it burned coal, it wouldn't have been a practical design. This unusual design was utilized because this particular locomotive was used in the Sierra Nevada mountains, and it traveled along a route that passed through long, covered snow sheds and tunnels. Because the cab was at the front and the smoke stack was at the rear, it protected the crew from being suffocated by the smoke. Sadly, only one of them was preserved from being scrapped, and it's not currently in operating condition. It currently resides at the California Railroad Museum in Sacramento, California.

@@jacobforsman3897 True they look simulare but the specs are indead different although they both had the same purpose dureing WW2 halling large amounts of cargo across the US quite fasinating.
It still bathles me to this day how a steam locomotive of such design could make it round corners.
