    If you saw it in the theatres in 1977 you would be much more impressed. It was unlike anything we had ever seen in a movie theatre.

      @Prying eyes, that's because they changed art styles a dozen times throughout the movie.✌😎
      I still loved it. I saw it 6 times at the drive-in because that's where it was showing.😇
      (I didn't really plan that... it just happened. Different friends would invite me and I'd say, "Sure! Why not? I've only seen it N times so far.")

    The very idea of a film like Wizards made it into theaters is just phenomenal. Love Ralph Bakshi for pushing the boundaries of cinema.

    • @JayRidders
      @JayRidders ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Yeah, screw those executives who meddled with Cool World for making Bakshi quit film. That’s what happens when artists in animation are taken for granted. Another example being Richard Williams, who worked hard on The Thief and The Cobbler for nearly 3 decades, but near the end of production, he was booted from the project, and it destroyed his career. As an appreciator of the arts with big ambitions, I dream of a world in the industry where artists’ works are seen not as quick money, but as true art, and that executives tamper less with the original vision of the artists, unlike what Calvert and Completion Bond did to Williams’ life’s work. As long as there are still people who view animation as art, these hopes for the future of the industry will live on!

      1977 was also the year of "Cinderella", the soft-core musical version starring Cheryl Smith. With a black, gay "fairy godmother" and songs that are actually...great! Has to be seen to be appreciated. It was a different time for sure.

    • @bassplayer10
      @bassplayer10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It was a different time. My father took me to see “The Lord of the Rings” in the theater. I was 8, then again in ‘81 for “American Pop”, which nurtured the already growing need to rock. Taking me to see The Who in ‘82 (Chicago, 12 y/o) sealed the deal. He’s still unable to connect the dots and likes to criticize my pursuit of something other than money.
      What was i saying? Ralph Bakski. Brilliant.

    The first time we saw this movie there was a thunderstorm going on. And right at the beginning, when the world blows up, a transformer in the parking lot of the theater was struck by lightning. The explosion on screen was followed by the whole building shaking and the theater going dark. Talk about your realistic special effects! 🤣

    There's something very funny about the narrator calling Ralph Bakshi the "Master of Animated Magic" during a clip that's actually live action footage, which is then followed by the same 4 hand drawn clips looped over and over in quick succession. It almost comes across like an insult

Then an evil wizard rediscovers human technology and the nazi party (which he probably doesn't even know what they were) to battle against creatures that live in a new medieval world.

    so....for years the clip of Blackwolf rallying the troops was up and available. Great animation by Ralph Bakshi and a classical score and then Blackwolf roles the film meant to incite the passions of war into his monstrous minnions. Enter the Nazi anthem and clips of WW2. Well....it's now gone. The first to go was the Nazi anthem itself from youtube; Good bye historic perspective. And now, even within a classic anti war cartoon they have removed memory of the Nazi Anthem. Holy Hell people. Stand up for historic perspective now! No matter where you stand do not let ANYONE rob you of perspective. Thought without memory is as a newborn.

    I love the concept of this: millenia after a nuclear holocaust, mutations and magic thrive. There's also an evil wizard discovering Nazism and the secrets to science and technology to use in battle against magic.
    Edit: 3 years later I remembered this trailer and decided to watch it again. Makes me even more interested in eventually watching the movie.
