I was a hospice volunteer for years and agree

My mother did not surrender and died trying to hang on. That expression froze on her face. She did everything possible to preserve her life. She died of natural causes at age 94.
I saw plenty of people in Assisted Living facilities who remained materialistic and non-spiritual at the end. Some were depressed. Others were bitter.
Even some younger Christian people dying of cancer in hospice have come close to denying spirituality or faith and giving in to fear at the end.

I am just grateful! What a deep perspective. It really triggered me in a good and painful way as a 63 year old ... 🙏

Just to expand on cutting: as a counsellor women would tell me they cut so others knew how much they were hurting.

It is an addiction or a defense respinse with a psychological basis usually seen in victims of C.S.A. They are physically numb and feel no pain. It releases surges of serontonin that rushes to the surface of the wound.
