    I am proud to be British! As an immigrant and as a child growing up in London in the 70's I remember my father telling that 'You are in Great Britain now and you must become British, this is your country now'. I took that completely to heart. As I grew up as a teenager in the late 70's and 80' I did suffer racism (and I understood it as we were different and change was happening fast...I forgave this) but through it all I saw the country changing and becoming better and better. This country has given me everything a freedom I would never had from where I originated so I owe everything to this country. I voted to leave the EU and I am proud that I live in a democracy that allowed my vote to count and everyone has a right to vote. Sadly many do not have...

    The interviewer is well versed and asks complex and informed questions and them allows the interviewed to answer in full! Well done sir. Another home run of an interview. I'm an American and will subscribe as this is at least the third excellent interview I have experienced.
    I have to say it again, I'm American and don't have a single drop off British blood but Britain is my mother country. Philosophy, legal, moral, intellectual, history, and allies through two world wars. If it weren't for Britain and the Commonwealth of nations the world would be a fascist, communist hellhole!
    Thank you to all members of the Commonwealth who sacrificed so much up to and including their lives and futures to save the world!

      Steve. You are so welcome.
      The true anglosphere (the people, not the rulers!) are coming together. The people of the Anglosphere recognise their common language, common ancestry, common history and common future. We are all in a global cultural war, not military.
      If you value our common past then we all need to stand together to defend it. We need to defend the values of those compatriots who have gone before us to bequeth this cultural and moral legacy. And this legacy must be defended by us, the current generation, at all costs!! We owe it to them all to preserve our cultural inheritance. An inheritance, millions died for!
      And we will.

      @Phase52012 5 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Here in Australia the TV licence fee (for our ABC) was abolished back in 1974. It was replaced with direct funding from the Federal Government. This lead to the ABC having to be careful not to "embarrass" (ie; doing journalism), the Government for fear of having it's funds cut. It's been running on the smell of an oily rag ever since 1974, it's funding has been cut over and again, making it difficult for it to make much in the way of local television programming. So be careful what you wish for when you "re-work" the BBC.

    • @TD-ug4mg
      @TD-ug4mg 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's because the politicians do not care what the majority thinks or feels, they care what the people who fund their campaigns and will hire them afterwards at obscene salaries want, and they care what will benefit their investment portfolios the most. It will never be about what the people want unless it is more expidient to appease them, then they will go right back to it once the pressure is off. Sadly there is no realistic way to change this either, at least not for the better. At best there will be a violent revolution, lots of death and suffering, a resuffling of resources and maybe a few decades of prosperity for the masses then it will go back to what it is now, and that's the very unlikely best case scenario.

      I think the time has come for us to ask if we can really afford Brexit.
      We can argue all day as to whether the UK economy was ever going to survive Brexit, especially the hard Brexit that seems to be the direction of travel.
      We can debate all day the extent of the negative effects on the UK economy of Coronavirus.
      But the one thing we can all agree on is that the UK economy is not strong enough to survive both terrible shocks.
      It is my opinion that we should swallow our pride and ask the EU, kindly, for a three year extension to the transition period we are currently in, and if this is refused (which I suspect it will be) a request to cancel Brexit all together.

      I never doubted true Brits for a moment. My only doubt was that there might not be enough to carry the vote. I'm born American of German, Russian immigrants. But I think of my nation's founders as my ancestors. Those men and women were the sons and daughters of England. Our constitution was winnowed from all your centuries of wisdom. I could not imagine a world in which that priceless heritage could simply disappear. I sat up that night of June 23 to watch the Brexit votes come in. That tiny cheer you might have heard from across the pond was me. Love from the USA.

    •  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Don’t believe much of it though, eg
      - , it claims that the Gilets Jaunes were protesting against EU - they weren’t, they were protesting against the French government
      - that “the EU is a horrible organisation, that treats its people very badly” - no, the EU is not separate, it is representing the European peoples and has done a LOT to improve safety, privacy, workers rights, environmental, food standards etc the British will only realise what they’ve lost, once they will leave for good on the 31.12.2020
      - claims that May tried to stop Brexit - no, she was quite hapless, admittedly, and personally cannot stand her, but she tried everything to bring about a Brexit, that would keep the balance between the inevitable damages tot the UK and delivering it
      - claims that Uk had no way to influence EU laws, which is of course totally untrue, because the Uk had representatives, partially directly elected, (who often used their veto powers), all through the complex EU law making process, who had as much influence as all other member states, if not more
      - claims that the EU exerts pressure on particular govern,ents to not enact certain policies - yes and no, this ONLY happened very rarely in two countries going into a fascist direction (Poland and even more so Hungary), and only where planned policies clearly go against the basic values of the EU, that all EU members signed up to when joining, such as democratic principles,importance of human rights, press freedom etc.
      BUT: even though eg the Hungarian government cracked down on press freedom, and the EU protested against that (= the “pressure”), Hungary’s just continued to rob it’s citizens of more and more rights, of their democratic rights, BECAUSE Hungary is still a sovereign country which it’s own laws - ironically precisely what Brexiteers (wrongly) claimed, individual countries weren’t.
      - “mass immigration we have absolutely no control over” - wrong, 1) their is no “mass immigration” in the UK, 2) even as an EU member the Uk has always had 100% control over non-EU immigration, and always had the right to establish tougher rules for EU citizens after 3 months. -> again lies
      It’s just SUCH a distortion of reality presented here of the type that Brexiteers have been brainwashed with for the past 20 years, that despite its fact-freeness has eventually lead to this disastrous Brexit result

      Yea I have to agree for his age he is good. He actually let's the person answer the question at length and moves on. This lets the viewer make up their mind about what the the interviewee said. Normally with the BBC or Sky you get the journalists unqualified opinion as a rebuttal half way through the answer, which is bias and giving the impression to the viewer that the interviewee is wrong/morally questionable. This interviewer asks his questions and moves on, which like I said enables the viewer to actually process what the answer was and then make their own decision. The interviewer is there to ask questions to an expert or lead in their field, not interject with their own unqualified opinions.

      I’m not sure that’s true both people called remainers “them” and brexiters “us” so it was far from independent.
      This was an interesting interview to hear the other side but I prefer non biased retort. Comments such as “most of labour canvassers were londoners” and referring to remainers “dinner parties” and how it’s an elitist club whereas brexiters are the “common man” and the “people” is ridiculous and shows clear bias. Boris Johnson is no more the “ordinary man” than “Jeremy corbyn”
      If 48% vote one way and 52% another. It’s obvious there is far more differentiation within each group then between.

    When I first learned we were getting a referendum on the EU I had no doubt whatsoever that I would be voting to Leave. When voting day came around. I went off and voted. I didn't expect Leave to win at all. I voted in the full knowledge that we would lose, as that is what all the media said with their fake horror stories about if we left. But I didn't care I still wanted to register my vote even if I thought it was not going to make a difference. That night I did not stay up and watch the results. I did not want to get my hopes up and I was sick of all the smug bbc commentators and patronising EU bum kissing know alls and their fake horror stories. So I went to bed.
    The next morning I got up. I remembered the vote. I wondered how much we had lost by. I put my laptop on and went to newspaper sites and could not believe it. WE HAD WON!!! It was brilliant. I went from zero to 100 in terms of joy instantly. I had really thought we would lose and it was the best surprise ever. I could not believe it. I was so proud of the Leave voters. The BBC Remainer crew had made me believe that any vote to Leave was a wasted vote and so I thought even though I still went to vote, I thought the propaganda wold have put off other people voting to leave. But it didn't. Thank God.
    Then I saw who saved the country. It was the North. The Northern of voters of this country saved this nation by voting overwhelmingly to Leave. I wanted to thank every single person up North for voting for Brexit and for defending their country from the greedy, grasping EU. I live in London which is a Remainer stronghold and has tons of deluded Remainers in it who bum kiss the. EU night and day. So although there are still 45% leave voters here in the capital, we are not in clusters, so the Leave votes are not concentrated enough for a Leave win. The Remainer's have far the bigger voice in London as they cluster together and then they hog all the media. So everyone thinks that Londoners are all Remainers but that is not true.
    But back to the North. They are the saviours of this nation as far as I am concerned. Londoners would have kept us in perpetual slavery to those Brussels dictators. When it comes to recognition it will be the ordinary working man and women up North who should get the credit for saving the country. They also saved the country again by going against Labour and voting tory for the first time ever in over 100 years at the last general election,. They did that to keep us being sucked back into the EU too as Remainers were trying every dirty sneaky trick in the book to keep us under SS Brussels command. And Northerners usual party, Labour, called them thick for exercising their democratic right to vote Leave. So they gave Eu loving Labour the middle finger and they voted for Brexiteer Boris instead. God bless them. That too saved this country.
    And as for Tony Benn, he was exceptional when it came to calling out the sneaky greedy EU and how they have cost our nation dearly in so many ways. But his son Hilary is another matter. Hilary is a demented Remainer. I just hope Tony Benn is chuckling to himself now that his son and the rest of the Remainers and EU sheep have been pitched off their gravy train. The EU are dictators. There is no doubt about it. The EU have taken Hitlers dream manifesto of ruling Europe and made ti their own but in a sneakier way. Thank God we are out though. Hooray for all Brexiteers. We are getting our own country back at last.
