  • Stars of the American Samoa national football team and figures from the film industry descended on Wembley this week for a unique event charting the fortunes of the 'worst football team in the world' and its history-making transgender player.
Next Goal Wins, set for national release in cinema's across the UK later this month, chronicles all of this and more, and has been embraced by The Football Association due to its messages of inclusion, diversity and triumph over hardship.
Coach Thomas Rongen, who was enlisted by the American Samoa national federation and Jaiyah Saelua, a member of American Samoa's 'third gender', the Fa'afafine, a Samoan term that denotes a person of the male gender with feminine qualities, discussed their experiences to a live audience at Wembley after the film was screened earlier this week.....

The Coach, Jaiyah and the team are Class Acts. Such a humble group of people and I’m glad they found each other and this sport.

Samoans have never had a problem with fafafines. They’re part of our families. And family is everything.

Doesn't matter to me if you are male/female/. Gay/Straight, Black/White - you are human and you love football. That will do for me..

If more people thought more like Thomas and Jaiyah and keep hate out of sports, the world would be a much better place.

It's a shame that Jaiyah was not allowed to play in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers

Jaiyah, such an inspiration. As a transgender footballer the thought of everything she has gone through yet she’s still positive & smiling gives me strength when I take the field.

You can be open minded but its pretty clear that God made a woman for a man. People now think being gay is ok because not alot of people choose to open up a bible and read what it says. Even though I know alot of people dont believe or care but its the actions you do on earth that count so its never to late to start reaching out to learn about God because ignorance will keep you all from believing.

I think you should go and read your bible again and stop defining the bible to your own Agenda. God is Love and his words is love not hate.....hooooii.....look at yourself first before you start Judging others.

in american samoa, we trust and believe in God.. not once we judge our neighbors.. because it against Gods laws.. so what ever each person does within their personal life, we just live, love and praise. judging is not ours to take.. so stfu
