I’m super jealous, sure wish I was able to raise a wolfdog. I bought a dog that was supposed to have wolf in him but ended up didn’t, which after learning about raising them I understand I don’t have the time or enclosure for one.
Figured it was worth mention you can get a rsther wide range of looks and behaviors in hybrids. Animals that look very wolfy but behave like dogs and vice versa. You can also get animals with hybrid vigor like a multi generational high content i know. Hes got the wolf body structure but its over all more massive then a pure bred would be, his elbows tuck under his rib cage but hes wider then a pure bred. Legs are the right length proportions or very close but thicker then a pure bred. Neck is the same way. Only dead gice away is the muzzle is porportion right for a wolf length wise but the bite is wider and skull even more massive then a pure bred. Tail is the give away on thar animal. He can curl it up over his back or tuck it down more wolf like. 35 or 36 inches tall, about an inch or 2 shorter than a pure bred of his one sub species. Few inches shorter length wise as well. But about 15 or 16 pounds heavier then a pure bred. Mackenzie valley wolf and artic wolf. Malamute akita inu and america akita going back to just after ww2, various sled dogs and random mutts used as sled dogs, and some random other hybrid lineages. Largest Mackenzie valley wolves are like 36 or 37 inches tall, can hit 7 and a half feet long or just about. 160 pounds. Joda, 35 or 36. Like 7 feet long think like 7 foot 1 inch to be exact. 175 pounds summer coat empty stomach. Big enough that algonquan wolves and eastern timber wolves literally freak out at seeing him. Wolfy enough that hunting and wilderness guide dogs that are trained to react to wolves freak out at him and some just regular dogs do as well. Also worth noting dietary requirements for hybrids that are stabilized. Joda processes starch better the wolves that are pure, but hes like a dingo in a sense doesnt process it as well as dogs, about half way, however he has his artic lineage adaptations to he better handles higher fat diets. Besides winter wolf syndrome some wolves get fall buffet cravings. They wanna bulk up for winter. Increasing meal sizes seasonally at times can help reduce some seasonal aggression. But dont let them fully gorge as they will eat up to 37 percent of their body weight. All wolf dog hybrids need to be raised as super puppies. But modified program. Socialization beginning exceptionally early. High contents need to be bottoe fed starting day 10. Pump mothers milk or use a milk replacement/substitute with the right supplements added for wolves. Wolf dogs require alot more vet visits early on and over a number of years then most dogs. For dietsry reasons and others. Wolves and dogs mature at different rates. Dogs are full mature by 2 to 3. Wolves arent untill like 5 or 6.
If you're referring to a wolfdog that has a pure wolf parent and a domestic dog parent, that would result in the puppy being a mid content wolfdog (the puppy would contain 50% wolf.) That being said, it is uncommon to have a pure wolf parent in the mix today because most wolfdog breeding is done through wolfdog x wolfdog breeding, or wolfdog x dog breeding. Hope that answers your question!
Which % low content is mawko? Does she has her wolf howl or does she just bark like a dog? The howling for some may be annoying but, for me its one of the facinating traits. Im asking as im looking into a 30-31% low content wolfdog which is what I seem to be able to find here in northern Europe at the most from kennels.
Mawko is a low content wolfdog, and she probably has around 20 to 45% wolf content. We're not sure exactly what percentage she is. If you're interested in wolfdog ownership, we recommend visiting Wolfdog Awareness, which is a resource for wolfdog owners and includes stories and wolfdog care. You can read more here www.wolfdogawareness.com
Just some heads up info. Unless the individual pup is gene tested. Done go by the whole "percentage" 2 mid contents can be bred and throw high content pups and damn near no wolf in them pups in the same litters. Further more some genetically tested high contents will act alot more dog like then some less wolfy looking dogs that act very wolf like. Also depends on the fillial generation. F1s are rather all gonna act alot more wild then a more removed example. If it's your first wolf dog. Get z czech wolfdog first. They're more stabilized and removed from the pure bred wolf. Make sure you learn the differences between wolf rearing and dog rearing if you go more true wolf dog bybrid or higher content. You may also want to get yourself primitive dog breeds first. Or breeds like the Czech wolfdog that are more stabilized but have wild canid lineage. A dingo or Carolina dog would be a good half way point. Husky from sled dog lines or malamutes or Akita.
I just wanna know, it should be perfect to keep wolf dogs outside in a good size doghouse chained right? Because you did mention about them being very destructive indoors if left alone!
Low content wolfdogs do howl, just like wolves and high content wolfdogs! Their howl may sound a little different, but they still love joining in on a howl!
Yes! You can instantly see the difference in Mawko vs the higher content wolfdogs! Ive enjoyed learning about them!
Mawko's a doll! Thank you for the great care you give to these remarkable canines.
