Loved the video. Those look so good and I will make some. I'm American and as soon as I go to a posh English party my pinky will go up. Your family look so nice.
I lived in England and NZ for a while but never had teacakes. But now I'm going to learn from you. How much is 3.5 cups flour in gram please? Thanks for sharing
I’ve followed your recipe a couple of times and get a good rise at first proving. But after cutting & shaping into the individual cakes they don’t rise again at the second proving stage. Consequently they bake quite flat. They do taste delicious though, I add a sprinkling of cinnamon into my mix for extra indulgence. I think next time I’m going to shape them into individual tea cakes after the kneading stage then bake them straight after they’ve risen after first prove.
Yeah worth a go ... sometimes if it's a cold day I might put the tray on top of a bowl with hot water in it so the steam warms them slightly and helps them rise 🙂
Oh I didn't know that - I just followed the old Yorkshire recipe book I had - would probably make them a bit like a hot cross bun with a bit of cinnamon or spice (not that I'd complain about that lol) 😋
@@CheaperWaysNZ Ha. Maybe it's a regional thing. I've only ever had them in the south of England, and they were always spiced down there. Yes, very similar in taste to hot X buns.
Ahhhh glad you added that last bit in or I wouldn't have been able to read it! Fortunately I'm still very fluent in Yorkshire, freaks my husband out when I switch the accent on 😂 I remember when my Gran was still with us and came down to visit she'd be hassling everyone on TV non-stop for not talking proper LOL
Great to have a reply! And so quick from so far away! I was only joking about your 'accent'... it's wonderful compared to most of the UK accents! Wonder where you were 'from' in Yorkshire? I'm from West Yorkshire - the place where Oxygen was discovered! A bit of random, but slightly relevant info: I met Sir Ian McKellern a few weeks ago in Lancashire and we chatted about his friend Patrick Stewart who went to 'my' school! Small world eh? BTW: I've got everything ready to make TeaCakes tomorrow - including home-made butter from Yorkshire Cows!
@@CheaperWaysNZ I know Shipley very well. I've visited many times and of course know the Salts Mill very well - it's famous for various reasons. Last time I was there I saw Alan Bennett AND David Hockney there together. I got autographs and a photo. I mentioned 'Gandalf'; he fell off the stage in London last night and is now in hospital! He's ok, thankfully and will be back on stage tomorrow. I wish I was a wizard!
Sorry I can't remember but I'm guessing I switched to my Yorkshire accent during this video? If so I guarantee you it's the accent I was raised with and most of my family still has lol 😂
"He thinks I'm gonna edit that out" 😂
haha - I like to add the odd wee gem for people who watch to the very end 😂

haha - yay for the pinky finger! Thanks for the comment 😊
I love you and your family so much.Great videos
Thanks so much!!
I would want mine toasted. I’m posh 🤣. These look amazing! Never tried them before! Thanks for the recipe!
haha - yay for us posh people! 😀

Hey thanks for the comment! So in NZ a cup of flour is 125g, so 3.5 cups would be about 437g 😊

I'd love to see a Clint in the kitchen V Sarah bake off that would be super fun.
haha - that's a funny idea - will ponder ... 😀
You missed out the allspice and/or cinnamon! All the ones I’ve ever had were spiced.

If Clint goes untoasted I'm having mine untoasted.
... and so the great rebellion begins ...
My teacher made a quiz out of this 😩....
But good job :)
haha - that's pretty funny - did she make you watch the video for the quiz?! 😂👍
@@CheaperWaysNZ yes ma’am 👍 I got one wrong.
lol good effort! Where abouts are you? (just so I know what country is being quizzed about me!)
@@CheaperWaysNZ I am in Minnesota, USA! (My teacher said she loved your accent) and it is cool if I do say so myself.
Those are lovely but maybe you should cut the size down so you get 10 instead of 8 because you have 5 in your family, lol
You're not wrong - would avoid a literal bun fight haha
You're from Yorkshire! Ey-Up! I have to ask what 'Frish Yeast' and 'Brid' is?! LOL ! ¡ɥsᴉpuɐlɐǝZ ʍǝN oʇuᴉ ʇᴉq sᴉɥʇ pǝʇɐlsuɐɹʇ ǝʌɐɥ I
