- With a Coronavirus Pandemic in full swing, we here at HauteLeMode want to look at one of fashion's most daring attempts at remaking the nurse's uniform, Marc Jacob's Louis Vuitton Spring 2008 collection. The show featured a slew of models dressed up as nurses in an attempt to recreate some of the artist Richard Prince's most iconic pieces, his "Nurses" paintings series. And there was a lot of background drama revolving around Marc Jacobs and his timeliness that set up a drama start from the beginning. We also discuss the history of nurse's uniforms, and why they have changed so much throughout history. We also get a look into the life of Louis Vuitton, the man who made the brand famous, and some of the histories of the brand's most iconic bags like the Speedy, Alma, and Papillion. We then break down the runway looks, as it was a 2000s experience, and finish off with some more drama involving Marc Jacobs and a fashion critic.

as someone who grew up surrounded by medical professionals but went on to study art and beauty, this collection SCREAMS at me. the loius vuitton nurses are iconic and i would die for one those opening/closing spaghetti strap dresses, they're so hot and dye job is so beautiful. i'm kinda bummed that back when this came out i wasn't that much into fashion and never got to see it til now, but i guess this is the joy of having luke here on yt to educate us in these iconic moments in fashion history.

Love that the classic bags like the speedy have doctor closings. Such a fun refrence and lets be real it makes finding your keys in a bag like the speedy so much easier since the whole top folds open.

So I’m gonna work at Charlotte Russe and even though it’s fast fashion, and it’s all about selling what is trendy, not high fashion designer shit that’s new and innovative, I still want to put some effort into learning more about fashion. Lolllll this was back when I was very very into fashion (I'm an old) and no we didnt want to look like this! It was just the halcyon of people excusing everything Marc Jacobs did, because he was such a "genius". Which off course is extra cute because Marc clearly had a penchant for Modern Art too, another world where the majority of the consumers have lots of money, no taste and are hyper conscious of that, so things like name recognition make them more likely to make a purchase.

I'm thinking that first non-nurse bag is meant to resemble a medical bag/valise perhaps, with the rigid metal handle referencing those in contrast to the less structured base that otherwise doesn't resemble them much
Yeah, the papillon bag with the clasp makes me think this more, too! It is fun to see historical details I can recognize even without much fashion history
The plastic studs on the embroidered firebird bag look a little reminiscent of cultures of fungi or bacteria that grow on a petri dish! S/o to all my fashion-loving science majors out there.

You seem surprised when you find trends from the past, that were de rigueur, are really abysmal and lack any sense of restraint or taste. I remember things I wore in the 80s, 90s, and even the 00s, that were completely unflattering and truly awful. Most likely you will do the same in your evolution, even though you are much more sophisticated and worldly than me at the same age. People who think this is making fun of nurses have clearly never seen a nurse in full coronavirus PPE doing chest compressions. We look like horror movie characters. All-white scrubs were the classic uniform because they were easy to bleach. Also I would 100% buy Louis Vuitton or Marc Jacobs scrubs if they had a grunge aesthetic to them!
Excuse me, but no. Most of the tacky shit louis vuitton makes is actually not made out of leather. It is made out of cheap ass materials composed mainly of canvas.
