    Seeing it’s a british book set in Britain, it’s right that the film is made and set in Britain. It’s a classic well made 60s movie. No vulgarity, no swearing not to much violence. Love it.

    The reliance on reasonable, logical, clinical science and intellectual protagonists was a hallmark of British science-fiction of the period. You can see it in evidence in other examples, like Quatermass, Night of the Demon, and even later Doctor Who. A hero who thought his way out of trouble, rather than punching.

    Allan's reaction to the fainting Bobby is spot on. He's a military officer in the middle of a cold war, you can say always on guard, he's well trained and toxins are the first thing he thinks of after seeing the crashed bus with no one around it and a bobby suddenly collapsing when near it. 👏

    • @robertodell9193
      @robertodell9193 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In the military, when there's an unexpected problem, the first thing you're trained to do is INFORM OTHER PEOPLE so that if something happens to you other people know about it. Allan did exactly what he was supposed to do.

  • @ptonpc
    @ptonpc 6 ปีที่แล้ว +17

    I think there is supposed to be something about the children that makes others fear and hate them on some sort of instinctive level, that is why the dog reacts the way it does. The village people are no different.

    • @robertodell9193

    I don't know - from what I remember of the movie, I don't think it's quite as one-sided as you're making it out to be. Sure, the Children are played up as menaces, but it's more that they're POTENTIAL menaces than outright monsters - after all, they are still children, and Zellaby tries his best to TREAT them like children, instead of the ticking time bombs the military sees them as. Both sides, in effect, are right - Zellaby's humanistic approach is clearly the 'right' thing to do, and an effective one - to a point. The military looking beyond that point and seeing them as monsters in the making is clearly the correct one in terms of public safety - but in the meantime, they're still dealing with young children who basically just want to be left alone. That's the point of the book as well as the film: sometimes the 'best' thing is not the right thing, and harsh expediency must win out.

    I would recommend you read Stephen King's Danse Macabre, in regards to his comments on The Thing (from Another World) and it's base novel. He has a lot of good insight on the relationship between the military and scientist and how the public's view of them has changed over time.

    A remake of this movie would be interesting. But instead of having the children be the bad guys, you have them as the innocent ones.
    Like yes they have strange powers, yes they can mess with peoples mind, but they would never do it to harm people, or in self defense. The real antagonists would be the townsfolk who are paranoid of the children, and want them out, as well as the military seeing them as a threat. The good guys would be the parents of the children, well a few of them, as they first try to protect the children, then after certain events place the children in their school/new home, then after an escalation, they move the children far away to a hidden location to keep them safe.
    The first event that makes the towns folk go against the children, but not right out want to kill them, is when, during the scene where one of them "accidentally" almost runs one of the children over with his car. He was planning on driving past them and scaring them but it did not go well and he clips one of the children with his side mirrors. And the children respond by having him wreck his car, he not killing him, but but putting his car out.
    The other incident where they townsfolk try to kill the children is when the same guy, wanting revenge, tries to kill them with a gun, only this time he shoots one of the children, sadly killing one, and they in their grief make the man put the gun to this head and fire.
    The climax would be their teacher who they thought they could trust, bringing in a bomb. And ya a battle of wills only to stop him from pressing a button to detonate the bomb as the parents try to break into the school and save the children.

      They could also make it so that the children are only born to women who have been desperately praying to get pregnant but having been unable to - like have the village have a fertily clinic or something. Because that was like the first evil thing they did - invading those women's bodies and using them as incubators.

    I've read the book and it's really almost painful how much the readers are just expected to believe "the children are different and therefore can never coexist peacefully with humans". Not once does it seem to occur to any of the characters (or the author) that the otherness of the kids isn't necessarily an impediment to living together in peace. It's all the worse in the book because the man who takes the kids under his wings and educates their little mind-reading tribe is the one who first labels them cuckoos and never makes the least attempt to give them any sense of belonging to their community. The real wonder is that the kids didn't turn out much worse than they did.

    I have a theory as to why regular humans want to kill the kids so badly with little explanation from the start before the kids were shown as "evil". The kids are basically a new breed of human that is far more advanced than regulars. An Apex Predator above humanity. And as animals, humans somewhat sensed the change in the food chain on an instinctual level. The children weren't born yet nearly every human was hostile to them even in utero. In less developed countries, where instinct is less hindered by modern society, the human adults killed the children as soon as they were born. But in more developed countries like Russia and America, killing babies was a horrendous taboo. But even with that taboo, their instincts drove them to feel hostility to them. As I seen it, the kids were just protecting themselves. They read minds, they can see the hostility towards them. And they were terrified.
    Think about it. Despite having a hive link to eachother, they're still children that don't know much of the world. I'm not even sure they knew about the alien influences and were legitimate unsure how to answer that question. And the only other people who shared their condition were killed off multiple times according to the scientists in the movie. So they had noone to teach them, noone to guide the new breed. They were inexperienced and novices. How do we know if they are at full potential or not? Imagine if that were just a fraction of what they could do when grown and wizened. That is what humanity's instinct picked up on. They were afraid of their potential as the new apex predator. A predator that could turn on humanity.
    From what I seen, I believe the children did what they did because they were afraid of their deaths at the hands of fear crazed humans that already wanted them dead for just existing. Think about it, they could have killed everyone with their powers. What is stopping them from wiping out the town? I believe it was their intelligence that prevented them from massacring every human in range. They knew that violence would only escalate things, however that incident with the car set them off. They were acting out as any child would. However the action they took had consequences. They only actively defended themselves when confronted by crazed people and mind wiped those that weren't that big of a threat.
    In a way, they were just protecting their lives from a race that wanted them dead since before they were born.

    • @Zeithri
      @Zeithri 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would challenge your claim to instead think of them as parasites, as they basically have all the hallmarks of being parasites. They have all this power, yet they use it for nothing but to further their own ends. They are born to humans but are not made of humans so to say. They use the families as 'nesting grounds' and they clearly state to create more 'colonies', and that's never a good thing to say. Now if they had instead said " _We just want to live_ ", then yes. But no, they want colonies, and that implies significantly more nefarious reasons.

      @@deusdeaconReviews The 1990s remake is bloody crap and not a patch on this 1960s film or its sequel in 1963 Children of the Damned, with Ian Hendry, Alan Badel, Clive Powell, Barbara Ferris and Alfred Burke. If you have not seen the Children of the Damned, it is in the double dvd boxset with the film.

    Is it just me, or is there a change of the pattern of the adds in this video?

      +Dragoonistiri not sure I understand what you mean ?

      @Dragoonistiri 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +deusdeacon (I am watching from my mobile phone) but your bideos usually do not show ads (made a typo in my previous comment), but this one shows 3

      +Dragoonistiri also, sorry for the typos. A mobile phone keyboard is not the most reliable means for speed typing.

      @deusdeaconReviews  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Dragoonistiri well the ads for the most part should be on all the videos, sometimes they don't show on mobile platforms or in certain countries, and other times ads have been disabled due to copyright disputes I'm going through, so it will depend on those factors really.

      +deusdeacon Thanks for clarifying. I was just confused by the inconsistency. Have a good one.

      @@deusdeaconReviews Do you think you will do the sequel Children of the Damned, which came out four years after this film it had Ian Hendry in along with Alan Badel, Clive Powell and also Barbara Ferris.
