Pretty clear to anyone that isn’t an idiot, that laughs at their own supposed jokes.
I feel as deeply as Tim. I am 71, still working professional black woman. I hate to admit that I am in the process of acquiring my D7 VIsa to move to Portugal by December 2025. Leaving it up to young people to fight. At 71, I just want to enjoy the rest of my life without the stress of experiencing the erosion of all values I was raised to believe. My pain is deep and affects me deeply.
I'm 72 and I can relate to how you feel - 4 years when you are in your 70's is a lot different for those in their 40's. This country has deep problems, more than just Trump and his buddies. Our society is breaking apart and I don't want to see more violence or riots as we descend into the abyss. Fought too hard in the 1960's to create a better America and now it is being throw out with the trash.
We were outraged for eight years, we argued with our friends and family, we pointed out insanely obvious hypocrisy, we brought receipts, we put up a brilliant woman candidate, who basically knocked almost every interview out of the park, and none of it mattered. I think that’s where the apathy is coming from.
You demonized huwhite people and especially young huwhite men. You didn’t thing for most constituents but gave everything to a few loud groups. You appointed people based on race and sex. You can’t define what a woman is. You failed big time.
And a lot of the apathy is that Biden trying for a second term actually elected Trump. Jill is equally to blame for encouraging him. Kamala did not have enough time because of him. Maybe Gavin would have been the candidate and won. We’ll never know thanks to Biden’s ego. That debate was not just a “ bad day “. Even the makeup department failed.
I'm a California republican and I can tell you with certainty that the LA fire criticisms I've heard about Newsom don't make any sense. No reservoirs ran out of water during the fire and in fact nearly all LA-area reservoirs are more full than normal. This was not a state or even regional water supply issue.
Do you really think the facts are what Trump cares about? Please tell him you don't have a giant valve that wasn't turned on to a giant sprinkler, as a Republican please contact him ❤
They don't care that it's a lie. I live in Ohio, and the Springfield stuff was all lies. I have family in Florida, and the FEMA running out of money or giving it to undocumented people was a lie. These people don't care about truth; it's just whatever suits them at the time.
We need to get down a dirty. We need to take the gloves off. We’re playing like we’re dealing with rational people who were here to uphold the constitution, not the people that we have in the office now.
I don’t think it’s apathy…but there is a very real feeling of helplessness for the next 4 years. I was inconsolable the day after the election. I am a prosecuting attorney who considers my cops to be on my team and feel literally ill that the man who sat back and gleefully watched his people beat the snot out of cops was reelected. But I have kids and aging parents and my own health issues and I just can’t. My mental health needs me to back away from all of this. I watched MSNBC every night for 8 years. I don’t watch any of it any more. Frankly your channel is the only thing I can still stomach.
I was going to say something very similar. It’s not apathy. We care a ton. But it is exhaustion and not knowing what to do at this point. Many of us worked very hard to try to get Harris elected. We’ve been donating money and calling/writing our elected officials. We’ve been endlessly glued to the news. And where has it gotten us? If you know what we can do to really make a difference, lay it out. Give me a viable guidebook and I will follow it. Have all the various groups that are sending me endless texts for more money get together into one powerhouse so we can act together. Saving that, I’m not sure what to do.
Exactly this. We care very much. It’s infuriating. But we feel kind of hopeless and like our own mental health warns us to try to focus on more immediate things like family, friends, health. I personally feel like I can spin out if I let myself.
Omg same. Same. Same. Same. I can’t watch MSM anymore because I literally get nauseated. The Bulwark is my therapy sometimes. It makes me feel like there is still some sanity in this country.
I’m Californian and I don’t blame Newsom. The wildfire risk is a huge problem that existed before he was governor. In fact right now, I’m relieved Newsom is governor because I know he is going to battle hard for recovery funds and he is one determined dude. I think if anyone can succeed, it is him. I’m super glad he is on our side.
I don't blame you! I wish he was my governor! (I live in Florida where the governor banned the use of the words, "climate change" on any government website. Ugh! 😩
Former Californian here. Now NC. You guys need to hold onto all your money now. Our NC Dem governor asked trump for $800mill after a hurricane the first time t was in power. After two months Cooper got 1% of that. Newsom had to go overseas for PPE after t refused to send it to California and instead sent it to Putin. Today, t said he may get rid of FEMA and make the States fix their own issues. Jimmy Carter started FEMA in 1976. t is going to dismantle everything any Dem has ever done and he is such an ignorant fool he doesn’t realize that there are millions of us who will fight back. Although after this election maybe they wont.
I think the Bishop did a nice job of speaking out, even in her soft way. I thought that was powerful....and how DARE she ask and encourage someone who claims to be a Christian to actually show mercy and grace. His response was soooo telling!
It was literally gods last gasp at warning the people and apparently she was spewing the most evil devious disparaging crap according to right wing Christians lol. I was raised in the church and I’m agnostic/borderline atheist largely because republican Christians
She spoke with gravity and force, nothing soft about it. Her gentle passion made them look like the small people they are. They were so uncomfortable and looked like sleezebags trying to scoff at a woman calmly and directly asking him to take the gospel's call to mercy seriously.
My outrage will be the harm that will be done in the disability world. My daughter, with Down Syndrome, could lose her tiny income. Also the healthcare gains that have been made will be hit. It’s so depressing.
If you haven't seen Tim's appeaerance on Piers yet, do not miss. He left the entire MAGA panel tongue-tied for any excuses on trump's pardons and Elon's corruption.
Did you know that Meidas Touch Network showing puppies and kittens videos (during the inauguration) had far more views than the inauguration! I love it!
I watched it. And let me tell you, that's the only peace I had on Tuesday. Thank you, Ben and MT. 80k for the pets. That's awesome!!! It was all peace and love💙 (and an escape)
Im a Californian...VEHEMENTLY DISAGREE Sarah. Living outside of LA and aware of WHAT Newsom is contending with, he's a good governor in a difficult situation. I respect him beyond words. FYI...a 60 year resident of my adopted state.
Governors @@pmcallisterseem to always take the brunt of disasters without realizing there are NEVER enough resources to respond hence why it is called a disaster. I like Newsome and feel he is doing everything he has at his disposal.
I'm also a Californian and the Governor has been doing everything he can. He didn't run away to Mar a Lago like the Republicans in the State. I love Newsom
Gov. Newsom is doing as well as he can. But he is already running for President. Remember he was married to Kim Guilfoyle which shows lack of good judgment.
I’m nearly 89 years old, completely sick at heart due to the latest election and how the vote reflected on our citizens, both voters and lazy, stupid people who didnt vote. The consequences are on them, shame on them. My question is: how can I, and people like me, make a difference?
You’re wrong Sarah about Newsom. I live in California ! 5th generation Californian! He’s done a great job! Still love you though, even if you’re wrong !
To be fair, Sarah probably gets a ton of feedback that we do not see. As a Californian, I feel pretty confident that Newsom is laser focused on doing everything in his power to increase fire prevention and readiness.
Totally agree with you! I've actually been chatting with Gavin and seen him on different podcasts etc. He's been there on the ground, doing all he can do! I don't live there, but feel CA is lucky to have him! Stay safe!
@MediaMaverick_ Yeah that's called an echo chamber. To suggest nobody is upset is ridiculous on it's face but step out of your circle / algorithm and you'll find the ones who don't agree with you.
Who would imagine that Southern California would have hurricane force hurricane force winds? Who would have believed that five separate fires would be burning in Southern California?
I think he's back to his old substance using ways and needs some extra funding/ invite to the White House Pill Mill Free Clinic, now open for biz again
Same thing happened w pardons from first term, one went on to murder a woman. It's like everyone forgot the go to Rudy w $1 million if you want a pardon. Useless media and their lazy acceptance that he's following Biden's example
I'm a Californian and longtime resident of LA County, and I most certainly don't blame Gavin Newsom for the fires. I don't think most Californians want to compound this disaster by following it up with another - i.e., putting Republicans in control of this state as well as the country.
He himself did not start the fire, it was always burning since the world was turning. But, his response was lame. If he doesn't crack down on dei and homeless, he's gonna need a show on MSNBC.
Hello Sarah & Friends, I have to bring this to your Attn! Yesterday I saw a Press Conference exactly as you described with Eric Swalwell (of Ca.) and other Representatives from Congress along with 2 Police Officers who stood there courageously as each spoke out with strong pushback about the injustice re: the pardoning of the violent criminals that "you know who" (aka a "convicted felon") set free. They punctuated the facts about the real crimes that were committed. "To You Courageous Ones", I Stand, Clap & Salute All of You!!! BRAVO 🎉 🎉🎉
I am already living in the wreckage of the future, here's my concern 4 years from now, he NEVER put his hand on the Bible. When they say, "you have to leave, you swore an oath to defend and uphold the Constitution". Where he then says, "I never put my hand on the Bible, therefor I am not upholding the Constitution".
@@rickm0208 Agreed! my thoughts exactly! He's got plausible deniability -- depending on the situation, he can either claim he didn't see Melania with the Bibles, or he can claim to be able to do anything with the Constitution, because his oath didn't count.
@@rickm0208He could say that anyway. He is lawless. It's not required by law to swear on a bible. It is not even required to use the phrase "so help me god". If he wants to break the oath he will break it. He broke it many times during his first term, and there were few consequences. He needs to face consequences otherwise he will continue to flout the law.
@@ajasen Biden has massive legislative achievements, curbed inflation, forgave billions in student debt, etc. Trump in 2016 passed a tax cut for the rich. They aren't even comparable.
tim, thank you so much for expressing your rage, disgust, and frustration so succinctly. i've felt so many terrible feelings but have been having a hard time sorting it all out in my head. i'm so sorry times are so shitty, but so appreciative you are there to witness it all for us and share the pain. rock on, badass!
There was no mismanagement of the fires by Gavin Newsome. I'm from LA county but outside of the fire area (at present). His response was fantastic; in fact I like him better after seeing his responsiveness to this event.
The maga force of California are really pushing this narrative. They think they can flip California red if they convince enough people that the Dems are ruining California.
I'm from California and I have always supported Gavin Newsom. I haven't heard anything that indicates he's truly committed any mismanagement. I'd love to know what people are saying. Of course, I'm not from LA area.
@happyrockpublishing4140 LA mayor should have had requested assistance to preposition firefighters knowing there was going to be an unusual wind event. Lived in LA for 30 years and never had winds like that!
Here in Orange County w/ 3/4 of the family in LA, 3 relatives directly affected by the fires and nowhere other than right wing AM radio are u hearing anti Newsom or blame game garbage
I live in California. A fifth generation. Newsom does an amazing job. These people pass judgment and they don’t know anything about us and Newsom. Love my state and governor!!!
Sarah and Tim, on the whole Elon “salute” thing, I’m sorry but you’re wrong. JVL is right. Even if it was a just a tongue in cheek troll on Elon’s part, to me, it’s also a very real dog whistle to the far right on par with “Proud Boys, stand down and stand by”. The neos got the message and I will tell you, from monitoring some forums, they are ecstatic. They know “Elon has to publicly apologize”. They don’t think he means it (the apology / denial that is). I’ve never seen them so emboldened. America needs to wake up.
Yeah-I really tried to not be knee jerk on my response. If it had just been the first salute, maybe not heil aryan nation. It was the second one to people behind him-I’m sorry, that wasn’t an accident. Add to that his active endorsement of the German AfD party. No accident. JVL calls it correctly imho
sara is wrong to believe its not a Nazi salute however most people who like Elon who are low info about him wont believe he's a Nazi because they think he's smart and cool.so making that something to argue about is a waste of time it changes no minds
I also agree with JVL that it’s a big deal. Sarah & Tim might be correct that it won’t really move the needle for most avg low-info voters, but watching the guy who’s colloquially called “President Musk” deliberately embolden the radical right is something that more people should have on their radar.
@@RedPandaIsRead and that's understated! There's very real violence brewing. I've noticed increased talk of guns and Second Amendment, and trump stirring the pot.

I am so impressed with Gavin . He is thoroughly incisive about his roll in his state and how it all works no matter what trump says. Or that actor that is on a commercial with Laura Ingraham ,he tryed to say that they have messed with holding water from all the state for a long time. Thst made me furious because in a the pain everybody is going through and his 2 cents is that? Bull puckey. And I used to really like him but now I am done with him. He is a ms. "Karen" if you know what I mean
Congratulations, JVL. You have now verbalized realization that: 1. “Back the blue” was always really about something else. 2. “Pro-life” was always really about something else. Maybe, someday, you’ll think back on the ‘80’s and realize that “saving Central America from communism” and “freeing business from onerous regulations” and other shibboleths of that time were also really about other things.
Sarah, this is my take on the Cali fires. I lived through Katrina. Now I i know Cali is 4 times larger than La, but the hurricane aftermath was too overwhelming for our state and local officials. It wasn't until Gen Honore stepped off the helicopter that La had organization and a path to restoration. But it took a very long time. Cali too, could benefit from the organizational skills of the U S military.
You guys made so many good points in this episode. It was cathartic. I said, "Yes! Exactly!" several times while just walking around the house with my headphones on, cleaning. The absence of Democrats expressing real human emotions is deflating. It's odd how deafening the silence feels. And it's maddening to watch the whole everything-is-normal, fist-bump & smiles charade. Tim, I hope you get out of Hotel California soon, though, & that you start feeling better. You're really exceptional at expressing all of our outrage for us, but I worry about you. Be well, you 3 defenders of democracy. Thanks for the talk.
Agree 100%. I don't live there but from all I've seen he is on the ground doing all he can! If the MAGA Congress put any conditions on aid - pay your fed. taxes to CA! Just a thought!
Back off on Newsome, Sarah. People are playing the blame game with a governor who’s been in office for a long time and they’re tired of. Trying to pin the blame on Newsome for the LA fires is way out of line. To be sure, he’s far from perfect but there are so many factors that led to these fires. Not least of which is fires start close to built up housing areas and Santa Ana winds. From what I’ve read, virtually nowhere would have been prepared to fight these fires from minute 1 without a prohibitive investment. That’s not to say that targeted fire prevention/fighting investments should not be made. But this rushing to judgment and apportioning blame from people who are not fully informed is ridiculous and not worthy of an intelligent reasonable person like Sarah.
@@swjackson917What a ridiculous thing to claim as a ‘fact’, your opinion that Newsome cares more about his hair than a horrendous natural disaster in his state. Idiotic nonsense. Go away
@@susanfarmer3569 First of all lady, the fires are not a “natural disaster” and second of all, Newsome did nothing to prevent this man made disaster from happening. He didn’t even prepare to have enough water to fight the fires. Newsome spent more time putting moose in his hair this morning than he did preparing for these fires. Newsome is a failure.
Sarah, I live in a red flag area of Los Angeles, what part of the fires and fire management do we blame on Gavin? How are we supposed to defend against hurricane force winds and arson?
Sarah, I get your argument on the Elon salute. But the international community, specifically Germany, seems to think it was a Nazi salute. I don’t think it’s as ambiguous as you think. But I do agree it’s a distraction at this point.
22:47 We are like 12 seconds into the disaster in California and you are comfortable calling it mismanagement? I think it would be more accurate to call it a hundred years of rich people running shit that they don't understand. It started in the 1950s when they thought it was a super duper idea to do a bunch of agriculture in the middle of the desert.
Remember these nice former Republican Bulwarks are still baseline Republicans. Sarah proves that all the time. Others that are former do too. They need to cross over as real Dems and do the work they themselves are say Dems should be doing. I hope you get my point. We need their mindset and to get on the ground themselves to battle back this crazy red hat era.
“Unless Jews start going on trains” … here’s the thing though… this isn’t about Jews this time, it’s about black & brown immigrants… and they will be “going on trains”. Same situation, different targets.
Californian here. Not at all furious at Newsom. He's done a good job in the face of an unprecedented weather event. I really don't know what Sarah is talking about here.
Good chunk of my family is in California, and not heard this either. Strange take. The only people I hear sh***ing on Newsom is GOP/trump. She is the most right of the three. Also didn't agree that retribution politics were at work when Biden had the bad debate performance. He was SWARMED by Democrats from all corners of the globe insisting he step down. Yeah, they were quaking in their boots...NOT
I feel the same way about Biden. I don't think Americans are super angry at Biden for his pardons. I think they understand keeping your family safe. I really don't agree with sarah about either of these topics.
I think that instead of spending all this time analyzing all these things, there needs to be some finite steps that people can start working towards to combat what is coming. You guys are the experts. What tools do we have? What can be done? Give us some ideas on things we can do to feel more empowered during this very dystopian time. I get that you guys are still trying to figure this out, but a lot of us are tuning in looking for some concrete ideas.
So, if you want to make anticipatory moves that anyone can do, that would be to build community. Form support networks, aid nonprofits, local community groups, etc. If instead, one is more of a debater and wants to apply those skills to undercutting the root of the Trump camp's power, then the early moves become discovering schisms within the Trump camp, whether that's the nationalists or the Evangelicals, etc, and moving to widen those schisms -- for instance, Bannon and Musk; there's a lot of meat to cleave there -- the nationalists do not like Musk (or any billionaire). But big picture, this is still the first week of the Trump admin, so they haven't really done anything except gossipy PR moves. Once the Trump camp actually makes a concrete move (if it ever does anything besides loot the Treasury), that's when concrete counter-moves will happen.
Tim has won me over. At first I didn't agree with him, but his arguments won me over. I am I 73 year old woman currently living in Kansas after teaching English in Turkey for the past nine and half years. All three of of you truly inspire me. I want to find a way to fight King Donald the Felon besides spiting in his orange face.
Hi Laurel, I too, was not fond of Tim at first (and we probably would not agree on many things) but this whole channel are Republicans who are NOT pro tRUMP. So have to like them for that! I'm hoping he can be impeached and that his sicko cabinet picks are NOT approved. We are in deep shit and I hope we still have a democracy after all this. If I could afford it I'd move to Australia, for 4 years! BTW I'm also 73 and just praying they don't touch my Social Security, Medicaid and SNAP! Living on less than $1,000/month is not easy. And NAZI Elon has enough of OUR money to give us all a million dollars and still be a billionaire! We need to QUIT giving him money!
I'm from California, and no. He is a great governor, and that fire is a natural disaster just like a hurricane or tornado. Stop saying mismanaged when it's a lie!
yep! he is great and overall CA has been the best run state in the union, bar none actually, for us policy, law, infrastructure geeks. There's a reason it's massive as an economy and has been attractive for quite some time, ongoingly. Quite unique in demograhpic and economic history of any state. That's why all the jealous rage of the new-right against CA
Yup. You don't "manage" 100 mph winds + 8 months of drought. This was an act of God. It's funny that we never hear anything about Republicon governors when their states are destroyed by a hurricane, flood or tornado. And this in California was a fire hurricane.
I love Tim's "positive affirmation": I am going to YELL AND SCREAM about the things I really care about, no matter what the people think! That's what I call POSITIVITY!
Tim I am with you.❣️Unfortunately you are in a position where you have to be slapped in the face constantly by the reality of our country’s state of affairs. Thank you for your sacrifice. I try not to fixate on the horror that is unfolding before us. I am completely unsurprised and disgusted in the moments that I can’t detach. Moments of intense sadness and anger come in waves. I will pray for you all to cope in the best way possible. While Sarah finds us apathetic it is hard to reconcile and consider what we actually can do. I believe most people are steeling themselves for the horror to come and maybe planning how to have a dreamer in their basement without going to jail. Thank you all for your time and dedication. I know you are true patriots.
Re: the wildfires - as someone who lives a literal handful of miles from where the Palisades Fire raged, I have seen zero evidence that Newsome "mismanaged" the fire prep or the responses. Everything I have read from actual firefighting professionals has gone the other way.
I'm from California and Newsome is not perfect but he's done a better than average job running the most complex, diverse and difficult state in the union. Newsome has the hardest state to govern. Sarah should read the room and retract her harsh take.
😊if Sarah talked to angry Californians, they weren’t people that did any fact checking. Newsom did well. I’m a Californian. In Mccarth’s district in the Mojave. I’ve lived in California since 1968.
Despair has become rage for me, though I know it’s not healthy. Every product I buy is from a blue state or has eco friendly practices. I have implemented no contact or gray rock boundaries with every family member or friend who is a Trump supporter. I have applied for my passport and we are purchasing a camper to move to a blue state. I’m just trying to do small incremental steps to cope. It’s not ideal but I feel the same way, what else can we do?
You guys are the first who have made me truly sympathetic with the never trumpers. Before I started listening to you I had never felt that real people were stuck on ‘your side’. I believed that we were all equal people but I couldn’t see how that could be true.
I'm totally tri-polar right now. I start with despair, then rage, then apathy. From apathy I go back into despair and the cycle starts all over again. I will cycle pretty much daily.
I'm from California, I am not furious. Sarah, you are out of line saying a fire/hurricane can be managed or mismanaged. Don't parrot talking points prior to research. My issue is that as areas with water hurricanes rebuild with the same vulnerabilities and urban foibles there is an opportunity for an improved, planned rebuild.
For someone who said god saved him to “save the country”, it is incredibly hypocritical of trump to say the bishop talking about actual Christian values is politicizing religion!!
To understand some of the great things Newsom did in preparation for this fire season requires a lot of studies of the tools he put in place and the tools he had to work with. He did a great job. No one can control the wind. He already is preparing for the rains.
I live in so cal and Gavin doesn't make us pissed. Republicans wanting to withhold aid makes us pissed. We fund all the other states with our federal taxes so I think we should just secede. We don't need the rest of the US. They need us. The resistance should start here.
I don't live there but I totally agree with you- send your fed taxes to CA! MAGA's better NOT put any conditions on aid! CA pays wayyyyy more in taxes than any other state!
I left the U.S. when he was elected the first time. I live in Mexico, and I 'm going in to a Catholic church tomorrow to light some candles and pray. I'm not a fan of telling God what to do, but I'm taking my ideas with me. 🙋♀️
Bulwark need to check their privilege. They get PAID to be pundits. The public has other jobs, bills to pay, families to feed, preparing for the next 4 years. They also get outraged a lot but then claim the left is outraged and turns people off (culture war stuff, Sarah complaining about blow up dolls, Sarah saying EM was a destruction, Biden pardons etc). They want people to be outraged about everything but not at all.
Utmost respect for Michael Fanone, for his interview on his CNN with Pamela Brown today on CNN. If anyone has not seen the interview I suggest you check it out.
He is the one guy who I want justice for - I mean I want it for all - but Michael has been thru hell and spoke up so eloquently.. these police need to sue Trump
She insults our intelligence about it. Just like so many news shows trying to sane-wash it. It was a Sieg Heil Hitler salute. And that matters a lot. Musk helped Trump win the election, he has power.
I’m stunned by some of the things Sarah is saying. I’m from California and my son was sent to fight the fires. We love Gavin Newsom. He’s been huge here. Kamala also came with a group of women and have helped hand out food. Wow. You’ve missed that one Sarah and the Nazi salute? Please. Just seriously. It’s called building a case and it sure as fk doesn’t help his. You might actually see trump bring it up if he keeps pissing all over some of trump’s agenda with AI. As far as Tim and Amy, nail on head. He is dead on right. I was screaming at my tv about what has happened. I am a bit surprised about the whole “apathy” thing as many I know and have heard speak are completely enraged by the shit that is happening. There was a congressman, I can’t remember the name that was on the floor calling the assholes that got pardoned and listing their crimes. Sarah…People are doing that!!! Maybe get over yourself. McGovern did it. Perhaps google it? I get plenty pissed at the Dems, but not about things they are doing right, ffs.
Me too, Sally. HUGE thank you to your son and all the firefighters! I don't live in CA but know of forest fires here in CO, they are hard to fight especially in mountains! And add hurricane force winds - total nightmare! Gavin has been great! I didn't know Kamala did that but fantastic of her too! People with heart and humanity unlike MAGA mikey and donny. Sorry sounds like you are Republican hopefully NOT MAGA? I think it absolutely was a Nazi salute and so do Germans where, btw, Musk has been supporting AdF - the Neo- Nazi's. Many Germany people warned of this before the election, and yet here we are. I hope we have a democracy in 4 years!
Bernie is putting out some good responses, in my opinion. You guys are, and so is Don Lemon. CNN is reporting the facts pretty well and what I've viewed on MSNBC. Bernie is the voice of decent as is AOC. Bernie resonates with me with his youtube
So on board with you guys!!! There are groups us of regular people who have been meeting since the election to do something, to fight against this, to oppose, to support democracy and law & order. We feel deserted! We need leaders! We will lead ourselves but words like yours mean everything! So grateful to be a longtime Bulwark member!
I agree with the comment below. The situation in California, with the winds and the fact that SoCal has had NO RAIN for a year, is, I think, unprecedented.(BTW, we've had no rain in SF for a month.) I think it's a little irresponsible to blame Newsome for the effects of climate change. But I love your feed.
I don't quite understand what difference it makes if Elon Musk did the Nazi salute on purpose or not. I think we all agree that things like these must never happen even accidently to serious grown up people aware of the historic meaning of certain gestures.
Right that's the second layer to this. I am fairly focused on just repeating that its ridiculous bc the primary explanatiom I keep seeing them reach for is "autistic awkward gesture" and just, NO. THAT IS NOT STIMMING. A Nazi salute is not a calming motion at all. As an autistic person, nonautistic people using their ignorance and biases against autistic people (oh they just do weird things for us to make fun of) to justify a Nazi salute that would take effort and physical coordination to do perfectly twice like Musk did while pretending they are advocating for autistic people is so enraging. Dont pretend you are advocating for autistic people by claiming we stim with Nazi salutes. That said, level 2 is that if you accept their ludicrous argument, you are left with someone so ignorant and irresponsible they "accidentally" do Nazi salutes on live tv and then troll online about it after like its some awesome joke. Not all that much better as far as leadership.
@@monicalarose7980im not sure they all think it's 'stimming' I think most are playong it off as socially awkward tension rising and when he comes to attempt some public gesture he picks the wrong one in a mad panic. They argue that he had a few grand gestures to choose from to sign off with and leave the stage... And ended up with the worst of all options when his ended up. Resembling a nazi salute. Youd think the offerringnof his heart would have been a clear choice for palm open and upwards... Diva singers and eva peron impressions have been serving uo said gesture of openness and love for time out of time It's all academic, because i think their arguments are utter shite. My TV and newsfeeds are FULL of Dems criticizing most of the pardons. My three favorite Bulwarkers are simply OFF in their assertions that Dems are taking all this sitting down. And Sarah is so very wrong about Biden's pardons somehow neutering Trump's garbage.
We love Newsome. The whole California disaster is heartbreaking & couldn't have happen in a wrong time with trump sadly back in the people's white house. We continue to sincerely send prayers & love to all affected & hoping we see an end to such a travesty & catastrophic event soon. We continue to stand in support of Newsome & pray for strength & wisdom to help him navigate such a challenging time in his state. Newsome sure poses a big threat to the unfit convicted felon now in the oval office & he will make sure he uses this tragic time to attack him as much as he can with his usual lies to score undeserved political points. It is my hope that he is able to find a little time to clap & hit hard back at him to silence & shut him up. This too shall pass with lessons learned for a better/greater future for California. The best of luck to you & all in your state. California strong!!!
It’s not apathy. People are tired. They have real lives to manage. As for “where’s the response”. Sometimes less is more. They’re doing a good job of digging their own hole and it’s only been two days. Let them cook. Being outraged all day is counter productive. This time it’s FAFO season.
Nope. FAFO and people are deported and Civil Rights legislation is signed away? I am pumped for a fight. (By the way, what you described is what apathy means...)
@alicelaybourne1620 Respectfully, what have you done in the past 48 hours to correct the injustices you mentioned? Perhaps you can share your ideas with us. I am very serious that we need to cooperate and work as a team.
10000+ structures destroyed in 100 mph winds that moved at 5 football fields per minute and less than 30 fatalities is NOT a mismanagement! The only people pissed are watching false narratives.
Another EO he signed ceased communications between health agencies as well as requiring EVERYTHING that might go out to the public be approved by a presidential appointee. So, we won't know if there's an outbreak of the bird flu, or a food recall, etc.
Thank you for sharing your feelings of desperation and rage! I’ve come to rely on your podcasts for their therapeutic support. And your analysis is spot on. You’re providing a valuable public service, and those of us who feel like you do are in your debt!

I'm 72 and I can relate to how you feel - 4 years when you are in your 70's is a lot different for those in their 40's. This country has deep problems, more than just Trump and his buddies. Our society is breaking apart and I don't want to see more violence or riots as we descend into the abyss. Fought too hard in the 1960's to create a better America and now it is being throw out with the trash.
wish I could do same. must take care of elderly mom so no leaving this shitshow of a country for the near future.
I feel this so much. After 8 years of all of this, they still want this madness. Well, here we go.
100 %
And a lot of the apathy is that Biden trying for a second term actually elected Trump. Jill is equally to blame for encouraging him. Kamala did not have enough time because of him. Maybe Gavin would have been the candidate and won. We’ll never know thanks to Biden’s ego. That debate was not just a “ bad day “. Even the makeup department failed.
Yes.
I'm a California republican and I can tell you with certainty that the LA fire criticisms I've heard about Newsom don't make any sense. No reservoirs ran out of water during the fire and in fact nearly all LA-area reservoirs are more full than normal. This was not a state or even regional water supply issue.
They dont make sense because they're lies.
Do you really think the facts are what Trump cares about? Please tell him you don't have a giant valve that wasn't turned on to a giant sprinkler, as a Republican please contact him ❤
thank you
They don't care that it's a lie. I live in Ohio, and the Springfield stuff was all lies. I have family in Florida, and the FEMA running out of money or giving it to undocumented people was a lie. These people don't care about truth; it's just whatever suits them at the time.
Except that isn't true. We've seen the reports.
Agree with Miller, Dems should not be "making nice." We need outrage, and ACTION.
By the way I LOVE you three. I wish JVL would say I am also his best friend😄

Hello Sarah & Friends,
I have to bring this to your Attn!
@@rickm0208 Agreed! my thoughts exactly! He's got plausible deniability -- depending on the situation, he can either claim he didn't see Melania with the Bibles, or he can claim to be able to do anything with the Constitution, because his oath didn't count.

Agreed!
I lived in Lawrence until I moved to Mexico! 🙋♀️
Were you in Antalya? One of my students on Cambly mentioned a beloved English teacher/friend's 70 something birthday party last year. 🤔
Thank you Laurel! Go Tim!
Your side already tried everything and you lost. Just gotta wait until next time.
And tenacity. He's my shining beacon of hope even though I'm feeling a lot of hopelessness.
Gavin is busy right now being a grown up doing his job . Nothing the GOP enablers like better than you guys declaring his career is over.
Re: the wildfires - as someone who lives a literal handful of miles from where the Palisades Fire raged, I have seen zero evidence that Newsome "mismanaged" the fire prep or the responses. Everything I have read from actual firefighting professionals has gone the other way.
Sarah, looks like many Californians are objecting to your message about Newsome mismanaging the fires.
"Zero evidence" - except the damage.
The Bulwark is the life preserver for my sinking soul.
That needs to be on merch!
Go outside and meet people and do things, these people don't give a shit about you they just want $$
Hilarious! I would absolutely watch the three of you four times a week.
I’m from California. I AM NOT FURIOUS. I think you are misinformed.
Like so many things. The obvious Salute too.
The only furious people I've seen are trolls who don't know a d@mn thing about fighting fires. That includes the Felon in Chief.
Newsome care more about his hair than he does about the fires.
Hakeem Jeffries did a great press conference today---no apathy displayed. But we need more vocal and strong leadership for sure!!!
I am with you Tim. Just plain mad, mad, mad!😡😤 😤😤
it’s not apathy, Sarah. It’s despair. What are we sipposed to do???
Despair has become rage for me, though I know it’s not healthy. Every product I buy is from a blue state or has eco friendly practices. I have implemented no contact or gray rock boundaries with every family member or friend who is a Trump supporter. I have applied for my passport and we are purchasing a camper to move to a blue state. I’m just trying to do small incremental steps to cope. It’s not ideal but I feel the same way, what else can we do?
Newsom isn’t taking blame in my neck of Southern California. If you chase down the roots of the anger, you find a Trump or a Musk lie.
That’s not tri-polarity, that’s grief depression. You’re welcome for the diagnosis. 😏 ❤
He demanded an apology from a bishop for telling him the truth!
I know! Why??? Hypocrites!
For someone who said god saved him to “save the country”, it is incredibly hypocritical of trump to say the bishop talking about actual Christian values is politicizing religion!!
Yes and he's not getting one.
He’s demanding an apology from a bishop for showing empathy and compassion.
It wasn’t The Truth, it was her political opinion.
I am just glad am not an American, but I care enough about your country to value your podcasts.
Tim, don't give up. We love you and there are so many of us who feel the same way you do. The path back to sanity is solidarity.
To understand some of the great things Newsom did in preparation for this fire season requires a lot of studies of the tools he put in place and the tools he had to work with. He did a great job. No one can control the wind.
He already is preparing for the rains.
The Inauguration was 2 days ago.
People are emotionally exhausted. Give us a minute. You will see our fighting side soon.
Appreciate you guys.
Exactly
Fantastic episode 🎉🎉🎉
Thank you all very much
💙💙💙👍👍👍💙💙💙🎉🎉🎉
Good for you! I'm more of a Canada person & am making serious plans... congrats!
Not to be nosy, but what are some good areas to live in, in Mexico? My husband and I were wondering for retirement years.
Please pray for us.
@MichellePisa-j3q ❤🙋♀️🙏
@@jeanetteq6024 San Miguel De Allende or Merida are awesome
We are tired and SAD!
Thank you guys. I need your perspective, especially in the next four years. I really appreciate your podcast. Take care of yourself and each other.❤
Utmost respect for Michael Fanone, for his interview on his CNN with Pamela Brown today on CNN. If anyone has not seen the interview I suggest you check it out.
He is the one guy who I want justice for - I mean I want it for all - but Michael has been thru hell and spoke up so eloquently.. these police need to sue Trump
I cried during that interview.
Tim is my spirit animal for the next 4 yrs.
YES!!!!!
Wait. Cali folks blame the Gov for 100 mph winds and a drought in the middle of our rainy season?! What dopes are you talking to Sarah?
Sarah’s take on Elon’s nazi salute is so wrong I’m actually horrified.
The crowd's cheers prove to me that he knew what he was doing, and they approved of it. 🤷♀️
This!
Newsom is handling the fires like a star.
He could well be the 48th president -- merely because he doesn't tell lies, but likely because he understands what good governance is.
Bernie is putting out some good responses, in my opinion. You guys are, and so is Don Lemon. CNN is reporting the facts pretty well and what I've viewed on MSNBC. Bernie is the voice of decent as is AOC. Bernie resonates with me with his youtube
I have seen AOC really come out as a leader lately. She did her win reelection with people who voted for her and trump. It really does say something.
I just subscribed to Jasmine Crockett's channel. We need these young, passionate speakers.
If it wasn't on purpose, it was reflex.
He did it just like white Supremes and AfD neo notsees he gave millions to in Germany
@@monicalarose7980im not sure they all think it's 'stimming'
I think most are playong it off as socially awkward tension rising
and when he comes to attempt some public gesture he picks the wrong one in a mad panic.
A bit like when you go to say a common phrase, but as you get closer to using one of two you awkwardly split the differnece and blurt out a hybrid mess of phrase and draw looks of confusion.
They argue that he had a few grand gestures to choose from to sign off with and leave the stage...
And ended up with the worst of all options when his ended up. Resembling a nazi salute.
Youd think the offerringnof his heart would have been a clear choice for palm open and upwards... Diva singers and eva peron impressions have been serving uo said gesture of openness and love for time out of time
It's all academic, because i think their arguments are utter shite.
Who amongst us ASD folks wouldnt nod in recognition at one of our fellows overdoing an apology over a *perceived* foul up?
If he truly did screw up wouldnt the crippling horror of what it may have appeared to have been set him off...
My AuDHD might bring about some... Interesting contradictory actions
But im still wondering what co-morbidities be battling to allow for socially awkward Elon to be doubling down and offering no word of calm over his apparent unintentional nazi salute.
Easiest option... He did what he did and doenst think it is a terribly bad thing to have done.
He'll let the chips fall where they may
And he expects protection from his plot amour as the main character in *every* person's current life story (as the richest guy in the world why wouldnt he).
You made great points though
His grandparents were Nzis and moved to SA for the Apartheid.
I spent multiple days with nonstop tears, rage and utter frustration over how we even got here.
Aww, it must have been so tough for you watching Uncle Trump win it all.
@ wow you make it sound like he won a beauty pageant so very MAGA lol 😂
@ Uncle Trump and Uncle Elon are natural born winners, Nika. They're the MAGAnificent Twosome.
This show is mental therapy for me. Saving Democracy one psyche at a time.
Just watched Tim's appearance on PIers Morgan - Way to go, Tim. Way to stand up to their bullshit!
me too…awesome!
He was amazing!
I would watch this show twice a week
You guys give me strength.
Hey
Yes! Thank you Sarah, Tim & JVL for keeping me sane
I agree. We are tired and regrouping and furious but gathering our power
This is what we were expecting, Sarah. We have all known this was coming. We are outraged. We are angry. But we are not surprised.
Yes, it was expected because he said he was going to do it! I guess the Repubs didn't! Dems are just; well what did you expect? Duh!!!!!!
Thank you for sharing your feelings of desperation and rage! I’ve come to rely on your podcasts for their therapeutic support. And your analysis is spot on. You’re providing a valuable public service, and those of us who feel like you do are in your debt!
My husband says there’s nothing you can do to change it and I’m like I’m never shutting my mouth! They can’t throw all of us into jail.
