Amazing video, straight to the point and conveying the most important of how neutral works in kof. Hopefully this can help the people who have a hard time understanding how neutral and pacing work in this game or try to approach it like SF.
Perfect video, thanks. As a KoF 98 casual who played with friends but never got heavy into the competitive scene, this breakdown explains why after a certain point in ranked in KOF XV I was getting blown up -- I was relying too much on sweeps and while my traditional fighting game neutral could beat newcomers, those more comfortable with short hops and KoF neutral were just wrecking me.
Good info. I'm not new (played KoF since 94), but don't win much. I tend to get beat in the RPS, not reacting to hops or getting them half the time on pad. Impressive work & fun vid.
I looove the editing, this was very entertaining to watch! I'll say though, I didn't really understand the key take-away. I feel like you mentioned a lot of useful tips about neutral, but I didn't get how the concept of the 'KOF zone' ties with everything you explained.
Basically that sweeps are high risk, so when compared with other games where you typically play footsies w/ lows, in KOF you'll get more bang for your buck by using mids moves that can protect you from hops
Love the video, dude. Can you touch on CD and j.CD next video? I get this weird "oh wow this dude knows how to kof" whenever I see someone constantly short hopping CD over and over.
Hit the button barely too far away, then hit the max activate. If they move into range it will be a guaranteed hit and if they dont the input is eaten. IDK if its true timing but I been doing it for years and did it with raw command normal into super commands in old game slol
Am discovering your channel from James Chen's tweet about you. KOFXV will be my first KOF game. Am a Sagat/Ibuki/Juri player. Any character recommendations?
That's a pretty diverse spread of characters, but for someone traditional like Sagat - try Joe, Robert, Andy, Terry, Heidern. For chars that are tricky/technical like Ibuki/Juri - try Luong, Leona, Vanessa, Isla, Chizuru, Angel, Elizabeth. Athena and Yuri sort of fit into both categories

No, any situation you land an auto combo, you could have done more (usually much more) damage. There are a few very specific scenarios where using the auto combo route is optimal (a few point-blank cr.B confirms when you have no meter), but I'm sure that's not what they were referring to
How do you punish an opponent that repeatedly spams hop drop kick (may be CD🤷🏾♂️) after knocking you down? I’m struggling to get any offense going in this game coming from SF
Cool video, but was the street fighter 5 section really necessary? I feel like a lot of kof tutorials suffer from "translating kof to sf players", which is something I don't particularly like. Feels like a relic of the past when you could assume people played SF as their first fighting game and then moved on to other things, but this isn't really true nowadays, the most recent new player draws were dbfz and strive, and the SF comparison doesn't really work for them. Nothing against your video, I'll give it a like, but I think you should try to explain the game in a self contained way, saying "it's similar/different from that other game" is a little lazy and comes from assumptions you make about the audience.
its people like you that hold back these beautiful fighting games, does kof video have to compare to sf bla bla, i love both, stfu and enjoy the video man, sheesh
@@coldspine2490 I'm just trying to make some constructive criticism, I'm not trying to drag the game down. Think about it, the SF segment doesn't really add anything to the video, it just states "SF has mediums and kof doesn't". Is this really something that has to be said in a kof tutorial? Dandy is an old school guy, he comes from a time where people made fun of games that had less than 6 buttons, I think it's worth reminding him that times have changed and people don't need to be told that.
Omg the updated RPS graphic what, that was so sick!
2:02 😍 this was amazing!
Stellar editing, this is gonna be the new guide to go to! Loved the classic 98 guide, definitely love this one too!
Dandy J is very good with pedagogic stuff. I've learn toplay Virtua Fighter 5 FS with his increddible (and funny ) video.
Ihighly recommand it. 💖

The old master comes down from the mountains to share his knowledge with his students.
Bless you, my dude. 👊

Your 2009 video was a deserved classic, but its still a good idea to revisit it with a fresh coat of paint!

Super high quality video, good job 👏🏻

"The KOF Zone" is where every midrange/antiair interaction happens, including the hop > sweep > jab RPS.
Basically that sweeps are high risk, so when compared with other games where you typically play footsies w/ lows, in KOF you'll get more bang for your buck by using mids moves that can protect you from hops
that most of the game is in the mid of screen so you should be there
I'm so glad you still make content. You have no idea
Best fighting game tutorial vid I have ever seen!
The rock paper scissors was so sick. Going to share this with everyone who needs it!!

cool, what game?

Pressing a fast button in the gap between jump ins (usually close C or D), or using guard cancel CD/roll are the easiest ways out
@@DandyDLC close hard punch is the fast normal? Wouldn’t have guessed that. I’ve been trying lights
A bit complex bt kinda of got the concept

was this super pedantic comment really necessary?
Street fighter is fg that's closest to kof, and it's more widely known/played. It's normal to make a sf example
Association also is the easiest way to explain something
