By very heavy request here is my video on Who should go exactly where in KoF XV! Now a few notes: This is my opinion and my opinion only, so if you wanna change things up feel free and by no means do not let me stop you. If you have an idea for a different position for a character do not feel discouraged and/or freak out on me about it lol. There are some quick video examples on this video but for the most part its basically discussion, I already got one 2 hour video under my belt so wanted to make this discussion a bit more prompt. Team placement is an important art in KoF so if this video has helped you out in any way then drop a like!
Chizuru's a mid/anchor. She gets really good mixups off her EX teleports, including unseeable left-rights, and her pressure super gives her an overhead/low mixup that leaves her advantageous on block.
Have any good resources on this? Ive seen plenty of combo videos with the ex teleports but the oki/mixup material seems scarce outside a couple random twitter clips I've seen.
@@PinkSlimeFGC He's referring to Chizuru's level 2 super(Uramen 1 Katsu San Rai no Fujin). The level 2 super with her dancing attack. In 98 it was a powerful combination because the super itself attacks your opponent directly while you yourself can attack your opponent from where ever at the same time. I don't know how strong it is in 15. I can send you a video of a high level player using it on kof 98.
More KoF coming! Although baring any big news I think next we gotta talk about some Street Fighter, lots of stuff swirling around my head and gotta get it off my chest. Also! Keep in mind streams are back so check out the rooflemonger twitch channel! Schedule is posted on there but mostly tues/thurs/fri, and for the most part its gonna be a lot of KoF XV for the foreseeable future
Chizuru is point/mid af. Been playing her since 98 (the actual year, not the game) and the plan is more or less still the same. She has great normals and her illusions make her kind of a zoner that plays mind games on you until one of those gets in your face, at which point it's great to have a few bars to keep the combo going but she can do just fine without them, keeping you away and wasting time till your mid or anchor's turn. I feel anchor would be wasted on her having so many characters that can make much better use of a full meter and TOD you from a jump-in.
It's so cool that despite having no interest in kof or knowing all of the characters' names, i can tell everyones basic play styles and thus understand their place on the tier list from your 2hr character summary video. Keep up the great content :)
New KoF15 player here, thank you for all the helpful content. Very informative and done in a way that's easy to understand. Thank you, Rooflemonger! I would also appreciate a Chizuru video at some point. =)
Very nice and quick elaboration of each characters' positions! Personally, I actually like to run Maxima in mid, so that I have more meter to use EX Anti-Air Grab as a reversal, EX Grab to instantly put people in the corner during combos, Max Cancel off his amazing armored pokes, or even raw Beam super if someone dares to throw a fireball at him! Maybe it'd work out if I were a little better at the game, lol!
I was thinking something similar, and i think it is because we're new. Maximas ex moves arent anything crazy, but they skip neutral. everyone can roll through fireballs, and like everyone has an invincible anti air, it seems. Idk i new to kof in general lol.
I’d swap Maxima and Ramon. Maxima has really good EX Moves and supers, but his comeback potential isn’t the best. He likes having meter to play with. Ramon is a weak character as is, but his pressure is too easily escaped with meter. His EX Moves are mostly garbage and his only good Super is the Lv. 2 kick super (where he runs to the wall). His damage output is trash, even with meter, so it’s better to save meter for his teammates, unless he’d KO.
Chizuru is also super versitile when it comes to meter usage, neutral, meter building and damage out with or without meter mid screen or in the corner.
Thank you so much for the content brother. You have been putting in the time to help out all of us new to KOF and it has made the world of difference for my friends and I. I await every new KOF video excitedly. Thanks again and keep up the good stuff!
Your opinion is pretty valuable especially to beginners who may never have played KOF before. Thanks dude super helpful FYI. I'm a beginner and have never played KOF before
This def helps me on deciding how to structrue my team. I simply find it funny how El Rosa used Ramon in all positions and Dino on anchor and they were TEARING the competition
Thank you sir, may I have another! This is an essential piece to the puzzle and one that no KOF XV player should overlook. This guide on team comps is fantastic and unfortunately it's an aspect that many new to KOF will NOT realize the importance of until now. I've seen other ppl put out tier lists and such but honestly what use is it if you put "x" character (who's meter hungry) as point and can't achieve any of their real combo potential. Really good stuff, much appreciated. Keep putting out these fantastic videos and I'll keep coming back to watch and learn from them.
Appreciate the content for new viewers. Being honest, despite NEVER playing a KoF, I grind fighting games so much that I'll just learn by trying. Watched your "who to play" to find out what characters do and who I like the look of. Screenshotted this for an idea of the general consensus on team building(despite probably going to ignore it for what I wanna try or experiment with anyway), and I'm gonna go get my ass kicked til I wanna experimenting and use these videos for reference. But I think that's why I really respect your content. Some stuff like "who to play" for people who've never touched a single KoF. Some stuff like this that's immediately helpful for beginners, but can also be a good reference for intermediate players trying to experiment and sorta learn how THEY play the game. Characters specific stuff that helps anyone who's picking up a character for the first time at any level. Just a bunch of content that can help.
I like that King can go anywhere, since she's sort of my "main". So if I followed this with the other characters I like using, it winds up as Shermie/Blue Mary/King, King/Delores/Elisabeth, and King/Luong/Vanessa. Although I could play around with more combinations.
This game is the first time I've ever heard calling any of these characters points mids and anchors. Usually you throw your best last, 2nd best first and anyone in the middle. My anchors are usually Ryo, Terry, Yuri, iori. Points are kyo, Athena, or Ryo. Mid is anyone who matches the team
Every video you make is making me want to buy this more and more. Good to know that clark can be played in two roles and that most charcaters I like can be played anywhere.
Nice video bro, i remember when i first started in kof13 i tried to find some kind of guide to build a team but wasn't able to find anything like this one right here. Very cool and it seems like we're on the same road. My team is Kyo/Luong/Ryo.
Chizuru is point/mid in my opinion. She has some decent extensions with meter and her super cancel is useful to have available for the debuff, but for the most part you'll be zoning with clones (and building meter), counter-zoning with reflect and abusing the boot. She also has an invincible reversal that's very reliable.
A lot changed since kof 14 so I wanted to make sure I had a better understanding of a lot of the character specifics before I made a video like this. Like kof 14 heidern is an anchor, now not so much due to the changes.
Very good video! This will help people develope a team! My team ATM is kula/kyo/chizuru. So far chizuru definitely works as mid and potentially anchor. Her supers debuff the enemy and the other can cause mixups/extend combos.
I'm so happy I found these videos. I love the KOF content got the game yesterday and I can't wait to play it when I get home. I Loved your who should you main video and I have a handful of characters and teams I wanna try. I wanna do Kyo, Chris, and Vanessa atm tho. I really like the sound of that team
If Elden Ring wasn't about to come out I would have played KOF XV by now. I'm gonna still watch these videos because the game/characters seems super interesting and to support the channel! Hopefully one day I'll find time to play it, it's fun theorizing who I would want to play with all the past videos you have released on the roster
Bro you are without a doubt one of the GOATs when it comes to fgc content. No one puts out videos this high quality and informative videos THIS fast! Keep it up King Roof 👑
I like using Yuri first, while her combos aren't so great without meter, half a bar here and there isn't too hard, and she's effective at running around like crazy even without meter. Still the video is super helpful as I finally feel like I have an actual grasp of why these placements happen beyond just that characters vaguely like meter... Puts a finer point on the whole concept. Thanks!
Thanks a lot for this! I haven't been able to get the game just yet, but this is definitely exactly something I've been thinking about until I can. It would be very helpful if you updated this placement list with the release of each DLC team, as well!
These have been some of the most helpful videos. Never really took the game serious. Just thought Iori's laugh was cool. Learning curve from SFer has been better thanks to your videos. Especially the Clark video. My friend is already hating on Clark's juggle anywhere dash throw.
You got a new sub. I'm trying to learn how to play this game when I have free time. Since the only characters I know are the ones who appeared in teh versus games (SVC & CVS) and Art of fighting so my knowledge of them is short bar a 5 min test on MAME. So far my characters are King, Benimaru, Dinosuar, Vanessa, & Terry
I have Khronen in point, simply because he has a lot of normals that are rough to hit confirm off of (forward A and standing C specifically), but those normals are really good pokes in their own right. I’ve won games with JUST point Khronen by poking with my drill normals and slowly gaining meter by throwing out his fireball.
I think mid is probably right for shun'ei so he can do the ex dash mix and resets getting discovered. Seems like those will be really good and useful as the game goes on
My impression was actually that Ash would make a GREAT point (regardless of whether it would be better at the anchor position) -- its jump-in HP no bar bnb does 301 damage, and it can do well simply zoning and anti-airing, not to mention its command button which is great neutral. Am I wrong???
It’s cool to know that my main team of King, Blue Mary and Terry is pretty flexible. I can see myself swapping these guys around during a particular match, like swapping King to the anchor position and Terry to point.
I agree mostly, but I do have a few personal changes from experience; Venessa, I'd put as a pure anchor for basically the same reason as Ash being there. Vanessa can play a basic rushdown/hitconfirm-y game, but she explodes with EX puncher vision, and most of her real good damage wants a bar or two. She won't use all of your meter at once, but she'll eat through it like a fire. King, Athena, Heidern... anyone who's a zoner or can function as a zoner does well as point in my humble opinion. Lastly, I kind of feel like Clark could fit anywhere on the team. Point and Mid are his best, but the same is true (IMO) of Iori, Terry, and Kyo. I think Clark benefits a lot from being able to recklessly back-up his command grabs with super, so he can easily eat a lot of meter, especially with EX Juggle anywhere assisting with his hitconfirms. Honestly though, otherwise I agree with the vid, keep up the amazing work!
The only thing I disagree with that you said is Terry being best as a Point/Mid, I think hes better suited as a Mid/Anchor, but every single other thing you said I agree 100%
Idk about Terry's case. While he may be able to function point, he can get some real nice damage with combos that have shatter strike in the middle such as c.C>6A>Shatter Strike (236C+D)>41236B+D>623A+C. Just his EX moves seem good in general, so I don't think Terry should be slept on in the anchor position to say the least.
I've seen a lot of suggestions for Athena as a point, and I'm pretty new at the game, but she definitely doesn't seem to be unable to spend meter. From what I understand, in previous games she wasn't able to special cancel a lot of her far normals, but now she can, which I think will make her able to burn that meter more efficiently. Maybe I'm making some justifications since I do play Maxima on my team as well and even from my limited experience I can tell he really doesn't need much meter outside of an occasional EX Vapor Cannon or raw beam super as a jump punish. Combine these two characters with King of Dinosaurs, and it's making me wonder if Maxima/KoD/Athena or Maxima/Athena/KoD is the right choice.
I think Chizuru really needs to be anchor, all of her setups and mixups require ex and if you want to actually deal some damage off your hits you're gonna need to spend that bar too.
Out of curiosity, why is Ryo Sakazaki a mid/anchor whereas Robert Garcia goes anywhere? From what I can understand, they are very similar characters with mostly minor differences. Do said differences alone account for the discrepancy in position placement?
For this being my first KOF game in a VERY long time. This helps alot! Great vid roof!!!!! Now please make just 1 combo vid of 21 when she comes out lol!!! (Ik u aint feeling dbz anymore but... do it 😁!)
While I am still a scrub at this game, I think Vanessa might actually be able to work anywhere. Here core combo structure only requires 1 ex move to get off the ground and provided she has a smidgen of meter before the touch and you are closer to the corner than she is, she can convert any solid and be meter positive and basically put you in a guess for your life situation. But she also has a lot of ways to spend meter. Either on just doing literally every ex move she has in one combo, super dumps, or using ex moves for their utility.
Vanessa with no meter is diet Chris. Vanessa with 3 bars is a nuke. Vanessa with 5 bars is an orbital strike. She's usually the anchorest anchor to ever anchor, but liberal ex moves do seem to be helping her fight at mid too.
This video made me even more confused! I’m trying to decided who I want as anchor between Elizabeth and K’ and I can’t make up my mind, and you just told me either is fine!
Well this isn't a tier list really. We will have to play it by ear though because rock will probably be decent point/mid like in 14, jenet and gato will effectively be all-new cause they have never been in a kof game with ex moves before
This Video may have solidified my "who would I play" thoughts. Point Angel Mid Maxima Anchor King of Dinosaurs I'm amused that I picked a bunch of front liners, but that's the way I play so it makes sense. I'd I'm left with just Dinosaur I'm going to be abusing those throws. And the ground is never safe while Dinosaur has Meter!
I was wondering if there were any online communities or discords that a babby KOF and fighting game player could go to try and learn with others. I am learning alot from the videos but im also certain that i am failing some execution things and such that other players could help me with. Also i need some similarly unskilled players to work with too so i dont feel like the worst player to ever pick up the game lol.
The #1 reason that non-FGC people are so afraid of fighting games is because of game-defining fundamental things like this not being explained by the game itself. Absolutely not a single soul would ever boot this game up and think to themselves “I wonder how I walk forward in this game?” but sure enough how to walk forward and how to walk backward are the first two *separate* tutorial missions in this game. Devs need to stop treating players like infants and start actually teaching them the things that actually matter both on a fundamental level and especially on a game-specific level.
Because this specific instance really doesn't matter as much as people think it does. Having the game walk people through THIS is "treating players like infants".
Ramon’s best place is in the character select screen, but he should only be used at point if one picks him. His EX Moves are mostly trash and his only good Super is the Lv. 2 where he runs to the wall first. His damage output for the meter used is moldy buns, so any other character would generally get more mileage from meter.
Right now I’m practicing with Terry-Robert-King. Terry as anchor, Robert as mid, and King as point annoying people with zoning. But sometimes i put Terry or Robert at point since they have good meterless damage output. I probably gonna try different characters like Shermie, Chris, K, Kyo, or Iori.
I put Shemie mid as I love being able to link her grabs into supers (plus my point is Iori and that guy can do anything really). Great info though, thanks! (PD. lol for Chizuru, God knows I tried, really hard, but I don't get her in this game)
Can you make video on how to approach I don’t know if it’s just me but 95 percent of the people I have played refuse to play the game until I make a decision
If you have a character that uses projectiles, do a weak one so you can see how your opponent moves, then capitalize on any openings. If you don't, spam a grab or a 1 hit close range move to build meter until your opponent does something, then it's now a chess game on how one reacts.
Don't do that. See which of the three you're best with, okay with, and not so good with and decide your team order with that in mind. When you get better, any character(especially these three)position won't be as high a priority.
New to KOF and discovered your vids which help a lot! Just wondering why you put Vanessa as mid/anchor as you didn’t mention her. Almost all matches I’ve seen, even in Latin America have her point and I’ve heard multiple times she does great dmg with normal combos. I ask because I’m really liking her and Mai so far. Still trying to find my 3 but there are so many cool characters :-)
"If Angel had meter she wouldn't know what to do with it." Well, I can think of one thing. TIME TO STYLE ON EM' WITH A CLIMAXXX!!!!!!!!! 😆🤣 God damn I love this game. LMAO! Thanks for all of the content. I would've never tried it otherwise.
Very nice and helpful guide, as usual! I would say that creating a team of 3 "Anywhere" characters is the strongest option right? Because you can switch their position at the begining of each match without thinking too much about it. Is it true or am I being dumb here ?
When the character you want to use the most is anchor only and the target dummy for the video :/ It's also the one I need to put the most effort for the character I want, so I better get practicing a bit more and make the best out of him when I get to the last character
I actually use ash as a point as he has strong normals and I just prefer to keep my distance from the opponent and if they go toward him he has the power to keep them away with normal specials although I sometimes switch him to mid with Robert at point instead My team is Ash/Robert/Iori
in 14 i'd run him as mid or anchor. Will have to see what his changes are, but he has very good EX moves(or at least, he did, we will find out) so he's meter hungry
Still trying to figure out where I like to put Isla and Dolores. I've been using Dolores anchor because the quick max confirms let her do so much damage while isla isn't really doing super long combos. Its also early and i also have King on point so things can honestly change

I agree as ash has good normals that can hold on its own without bar
Thanks for kof xv content.
Angel, Isla and Ash are literally in the places you put them and they are my team! What a coincidence.
It’s cool to know that my main team of King, Blue Mary and Terry is pretty flexible. I can see myself swapping these guys around during a particular match, like swapping King to the anchor position and Terry to point.
I agree mostly, but I do have a few personal changes from experience;
Venessa, I'd put as a pure anchor for basically the same reason as Ash being there.
Huh I thought Vanessa was a great point since she can confirm in good meterless DMG. I saw a guide from Diaphone yesterday where he explained that.
Robert has better buttons, real fireballs, better neutral, more options
Ahhh okay. So today I'm going to switch Angel from anchor to point just to learn her more and use her more often to get the muscle memory down.
Can somebody explain why I'm seeing so much Shermie anchor then? Reynald had her yesterday on a big tourney
I like how Chizuru’s just there
What would we do without you, Father Roof?
When you clicked the video just to see where he’d put Chizuru.
I guess it's the character efficiency with meter is the main concern on point.
Thanks
I probably won't get this game but just here to support and drop a like lol
This video made me even more confused! I’m trying to decided who I want as anchor between Elizabeth and K’ and I can’t make up my mind, and you just told me either is fine!
Depends on how good you are with both characters. For now, I'd suggest K' as anchor(he plays like a shoto so that should be easy enough).
Dino in the back so I can dinner into climax. Possibly the strangest sentence I've written all day but there you go.
Thank you
Hey Roofle, when the dlc teams come out, will you make an updated tier list?
Well this isn't a tier list really. We will have to play it by ear though because rock will probably be decent point/mid like in 14, jenet and gato will effectively be all-new cause they have never been in a kof game with ex moves before
Thank you for this
This Video may have solidified my "who would I play" thoughts.
Point Angel
Mid Maxima
Anchor King of Dinosaurs
I'm amused that I picked a bunch of front liners, but that's the way I play so it makes sense. I'd I'm left with just Dinosaur I'm going to be abusing those throws. And the ground is never safe while Dinosaur has Meter!
So my team would go Athena/Yuri/Ralf if I go by the list. Thank you!!
Well uh... This is interesting. All of the characters I was thinking of playing are on the ANYWHERE tier. Guess I gotta go by feel, then.
I have a friend who's using Krohnen as the point battery since his whiff DP builds a ton of meter
Tier list was alright 👍. Gonna do mind in due time 😆
K, so, I'm running King/Clark/Robert, so this should help me decide where...
*Sees Tier List.*
Well, that helps a lot.
Don't do that. See which of the three you're best with, okay with, and not so good with and decide your team order with that in mind.
When you get better, any character(especially these three)position won't be as high a priority.
Would a team of 3 "anywhere"s be better or worse than a dedicated point, mid and anchor in your opinion?
New to KOF and discovered your vids which help a lot! Just wondering why you put Vanessa as mid/anchor as you didn’t mention her. Almost all matches I’ve seen, even in Latin America have her point and I’ve heard multiple times she does great dmg with normal combos.
I ask because I’m really liking her and Mai so far. Still trying to find my 3 but there are so many cool characters :-)
"If Angel had meter she wouldn't know what to do with it."
Well, I can think of one thing.
TIME TO STYLE ON EM' WITH A CLIMAXXX!!!!!!!!!
😆🤣
God damn I love this game.
Nice - turns out I chosed 2 anywhere characters and one mid :v
IMO, Chizuru can go in point or mid. You can play her very footsies heavy and not require a lot of meter as a result.
When the character you want to use the most is anchor only and the target dummy for the video :/
It's also the one I need to put the most effort for the character I want, so I better get practicing a bit more and make the best out of him when I get to the last character
By your tier list my team is all in the anywhere tier
I actually use ash as a point as he has strong normals and I just prefer to keep my distance from the opponent and if they go toward him he has the power to keep them away with normal specials although I sometimes switch him to mid with Robert at point instead
My team is Ash/Robert/Iori
Geese sounds like an anchor character ⚓
in 14 i'd run him as mid or anchor. Will have to see what his changes are, but he has very good EX moves(or at least, he did, we will find out) so he's meter hungry
Chizuru should be anchor she have amazing mix and dmg with meter
Still trying to figure out where I like to put Isla and Dolores. I've been using Dolores anchor because the quick max confirms let her do so much damage while isla isn't really doing super long combos. Its also early and i also have King on point so things can honestly change
Make Isla your point character for now. When you get good enough with her, team order won't be as high a priority.
Otherwise you'll be fine.
To sum up: Don't play a team of 3 anchors, because you'll lack meter for your first characters.
I'd say play a team of 3 anchors, because point, mid and anchor doesn't matter as much as people say it does.
