Just started a clean up on my grandfather’s Yost vice I’ve neglected for some thirty years now , that vice looks so much like the one you restored and is probably about as old
Great video, I rescued a 1922 Reed 104 from my dad's back yard. Your video helped a lot. Mine has a split cap on the handle and I couldn't figure out how to remove it, so I left it alone. The refinish came out great. Thanks for the video.
Nice job on the repair! I recently bought a 105 and a 105R; the 105 is missing the right mounting lug, and the 105R has an iffy weld on the movable jaw. So, my plans are to get one really good vice 105R resto out of the two. The 105R was cheap and 105 was basically free.
That’s sounds like a great plan! I keep broken vises for that very reason, if I find one that needs a part and I know I have a spare then I can probably get it cheap. Thanks for the kind words.
Makes a great paper weight also and door stopper also and kids like spinning the spindle all kinds of useful things to do with hunk of metal all right !!!!
Beautiful!! I have a Reed 104 1/2 but missing the handle. Is there anyway you could measure the handle for that vise? I’m thinking it’s 11/16 diameter and maybe 12” long and the balls are 1 1/2 in? If you have time.
Nice job on this vice. Reeds are often said to be the best vices out there. As a side note, aren’t you concerned about heating metal to a red heat right on your anvil face? I’d be concerned that could negatively affect the heat treat on the face.
Thanks! Not worried because the anvil face barely even gets warm when heating something up on it….the mass of the anvil is just too much of a heat sink and never allows the anvil to get warm. I couldn’t get the face to 150F if I tried!
I think I bought it at my local Walmart.I liked it so much I painted a Wilton vise this color after doing this Reed. I think I am keeping the Wilton, gave this Reed away.

I’ll have a Yost vise restoration in the future. They are great vises and a very historic American company!

Fantastic! Glad to hear it was of help to you. Take care!
It helps me seeing how different makes are put together.
With some care, it's ready for another hundred years. Nice job!
Nice color choice. Good job.
Thanks I have become a fan of this color as well!
Lovely restoration, loved seeing the brass hammer earning its keep

Very nice job looks solid.
Thank you! I gave it to my friend and he loves it!
@@shopdoc Very generous.
Cool restoration buddy 👍
Thanks my friend loves it!
Great looking vise! I've looked EVERYWHERE and cannot find that paint. All I can find is black and gray.
I bought it at Walmart but I’ve been told that Rustoleum stopped making it.
Great Job! Love your vise restoration videos!
Thank you very much! Watch the big Wilton 600 resto....that thing is a beast!
Makes a great paper weight also and door stopper also and kids like spinning the spindle all kinds of useful things to do with hunk of metal all right !!!!
That kind of use may be falling short of it's full potential, but if the kids like it.....go for it!

That Reed looks like it’s lived a rough life. Good job on the restoration.
Yes it was definitely abused for a time. Thankfully they are so well made that it functions flawlessly!
Good look. Only thing I’d have done differently is I’d highlight the letters
That would definitely look great!
big ole Reed will serve you well
In this case it’ll serve my friend well! He has told me how much he likes this vise, so I know he appreciates it very much! Thanks for the comment.
nice job

Здравствуйте, подскажите можно спилить нижний выступ где они крепятся к столу?, а то они слишком выступают от стола, хочу разместить их поглубже
I like the anvil and the Reed 104 1/2R
Thanks! That anvil is a 250lb Fisher Norris.
where did you get that color paint i thought they stop making verda green hammered paint

Do you remember how much you paid for it?
@@IvelSoup-m4q probably in the $50 range.
Close up camera angles of internal parts would be helpful
Not really what I'd call a restoration, more like a maintenance and repaint.
I wouldn’t disagree……even a refresh would work.
Love these old vises!
Me too! Thanks for watching!
